City_4_Life Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 From what I heard on the 6pm news, it sounds like Hammonds got brain damage Sounds bad. I hope what the doctors say is true, and he does make a good recovery.
Daggers Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Sadly, it's stuff like this that puts the rest of life's shit in perspective.
Matt Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Get well soon! Really like him, seems like a nice bloke, Top Gear wouldn't/won't (Hopefully this won't be the case) be the same without him. Top Gear - One of the best programmes about! And its all down to the presenters. -ITV News were making a big point of it being a last minute swap in people doing it, from what they we're saying it was ment to James May doing it but he pulling out and Hammond had to do it. Thing is I believe Hammond would have wanted to do it anyway and ITV made out they had to swap last minute but other reports say May did pull out but it wasn't last minute they had planned the swap for weeks.
Monk Posted 21 September 2006 Posted 21 September 2006 Yes, but when docors talk about recovery they usually say a 'full recovery'. Unfortunately, a 'good' recovery means to me that they know he has some kind of permanent damage. It implies that he will recover the best he can given the circumstances, which could be bad. We dont know and can only hope for the best. I had a thought earlier - if Clarkson was to say - ok if you care about the guy turn up in Hyde park on saturday - how many people would turn up? More than at the Walkers Stadium, thats for sure.

Although it could be that they don't want to commit to saying a "full recovery" this early on in the game, but they're pretty certain he's gonna make a good one. Ever the optimist.
Jimmy Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 well apparently he laughed when Clarkson called him a "crap driver" and tried to sit up to great him, he has left intensive care and been moved to a high dependency unit, his condition has been downgraded from serious but stable to stable

Ketchup?? Sauce?
Jimmy Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 hp? Ketchup?? Sauce? it was a statement read out by Phil on This Morning, and it now on the news
Janx Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 it was a statement read out by Phil on This Morning, and it now on the news sounds promising, drove past the LGI this am, still buzzing with press. :
Jimmy Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 they also said he wanted to do a piece to camera to explain what went wrong just after the got him out of the wreckage
cisono Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 it was a statement read out by Phil on This Morning, and it now on the news And didn't he lie as well? He said there were never any injuries at all before this. But hadn't Jeremy Clarkson once broken his thumb? I think it was when he crashed into a wall/barrier or something...
lookwhaticando Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 And didn't he lie as well? He said there were never any injuries at all before this. But hadn't Jeremy Clarkson once broken his thumb? I think it was when he crashed into a wall/barrier or something... Indeed. Crashed his Volvo into a wall at higher speed than intended. Part of that cheap car challenge. His dials were fuggered and he struck the wall at 40 not 30 as he was supposed to. The impact fractured his thumb or something around there... Funnily enough, despite driving quicker into the wall, the Volvo actually still worked after the crash whereas the others didn't.... just goes to show you, if you plan on crashing, a Volvo is the best car to do it in. And people say TG isn't educational viewing.
Bloomer Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 I wouldnt fancy his insurance quote next year. e.g. Q: "Have you been involved in any accidents in the last five years?" A: "Yes actually I came off the road at 300 mph and buried my head and the super fast jet car I was driving car in the ground"
cisono Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 ...if you plan on crashing, a Volvo is the best car to do it in. My dad had a frontal crash with a bus (he tried to avoid the crash but he bus was in the process of overtaking another bus and there was no room to escape!). Luckily, he was driving a Mercedes and came away with just minor injuries (broken ankle and a couple of cuts) :-( Needless to say, the car was a write-off (the engine was reduced to a thin laminate). My dad bought another Mercedes with part of the insurance money
The People's Hero Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 Dear Cisono, I would like a Mercedes. Yours in Hope, - James of Kent.

cisono Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 My M class is up for grabs! Be quick though... Yeah right...
lookwhaticando Posted 22 September 2006 Posted 22 September 2006 No No No!!! I can't believe it... you guys are in the prime of your life and you want a funeral car. C'mon soft people, buy something proper. BMW > Mercedes (apart from possibly the S-Class which has usually been better than the 7-Series) But smaller BMW's are rated much much better than their Mercedes counterparts.
