Monk Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 So I was supposed to be moving to a new job in Singapore in November - but the project has been put back by 6 months, and I'm not feeling great about hanging around waiting for it to happen! I have a choice, but I am completely lost - your opinion would help! Do I a) Stick it out and go to Singapore - I'll be a supervisor out there and it will look wicked on my CV. Pays 17K b) Take a job elsewhere in Royal Bank of Scotland - I've been there a year - got good contacts - Pays 35K c) take a temp job in banking IT, for about 6 months then bugger off travelling - pays 60 - 70K. Obviopusly the first 2 look better on my CV, but the third is the most fun as itll be pretty easy and allow me to stay in London with my mates Oh yeah and I am also peeved as I had a ticket to the Ashes and now I cant go! Argh! Answers on a postcard...
C-man Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Singapore is amazing mate, go there!!! I would jump at the chance to go there again, i miss it from this summer
Scarby Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 C))) you only live once, do it while you are young

Why spend it sitting in a bank?. Life while you're young. There's plenty of time to work when you're only fit to sit around!.
Monk Posted 1 October 2006 Author Posted 1 October 2006 Cheers guys - at the moment I am leaning towards C. Visiting Singapore is one thing - relocating there is another. RBS are peesing me off at the moment too - I can't even be sure it will happen in march! Maybe by doing C I can realise my dream of going to Antartica... not as hot as Singapore, but probably more scenic.

I would mate, but dont have enough dinero to travel right now - I could get about as far as New York... but not around Central America etc where I want to go!
Daggers Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Pack your trunk and run away to the circus. off Monk goes with a trumpety trump trump trump trump!

lcfc_jme Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 It'd have to be C. Travelling would be something that you'd enjoy and remember forever, and something you possibly wouldn't get to do very much, but you'd be able to go to your job most days of the year, and it could well bore you quite quickly

Most of the places I want to go are not in that part of the world. Thanks for your input guys its good to get an outside opinion. I think I am going to quit, probably in a few weeks, and then take it from there. May as well not hang around waiting to leave if I am not happy! Watch this space...

Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 If I was you I would definitely go for C. I am not so lucky so rub it in and go for it.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 I vote C. What do I win? Seriously, though, C seems to be the most attractive by far. A fair chunk of money and time to travel afterwards. Do it.
Monk Posted 10 October 2006 Author Posted 10 October 2006 Just to update you - I have decided to resign, and will be moving back to sunny Oakham at the end of the month. I will spend the final 6 weeks before Christmas on a brisk round the world tour, including the Ashes on December 14th in Perth. Mixer. Then in the new year I will decide what to do with myself. Woop woop

Anish Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Nice one monk - you'll love travelling. I'm currently in Sydney on a 3 month tour (started in Hong Kong, then Oz, heading to New Zealand on Friday and then to USA in a month) and loving every minute of it. Perth is a beautiful city and the weather is incredible all year round.

Argh! Answers on a postcard... Based on my experience (and love) of Singapore I would defo take the S'pore option I'm very close to re-locating to Hong Kong at the moment - And my main reason for that is it's closer to Singapore I'm off to Singapore in 28 days time - On holiday because my work is not sending back there Can I have your job in Singapore please?
cisono Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Go for it. What is the worst that can happen!?!?!? (No, it is never that bad...) PS: Can we come to visit?

Nationwider Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Go for it, Monk. The opportunity to travel never presented itself to me (for obvious reasons) and now I'll not get the chance to do it whilst I'm reasonably young. You do right, sir.
