Best Asian Restaurant in Leicester

Recommended Posts

When I come back to Leicester I usually go to Swatlands in Oadby or The Tiffin on London Road. What are your recommendations?? By Asian I mean Indian sub continent.

The best places to have a curry in my opinion are the pub / grill type indian restaurents.

Plamingo on Loughborough Road, Coronotation on Catherine Street, Harmony near the Belgrave Flyover, Tiranga on Melton Road. Also there is a nice little place on Walnit Street called Spicy Handi.

I usually divide Indian type restaurants into two:

1-oily /greasy/heavy

2-the rest

Most of the ones I know fall within the first category (ie when I eat there, my digestion feels abnormal for the rest of the day - if had lunch there - or well into the next day otherwise. Even if I just have a chicken tikka starter or a dahl).

I am interested in finding more places that would fall into category 2 (apart from the Singh's place :P )

Does anyone know any? (I know this is somewhat subjective)

SHummy's hit the spot for my type of authentic tandooori dishes, and tandoori\grill type are usually healthier!!

I haven't been for a curry for ages, but I used to go to the Namaste, on Hinckley Road, it's small but the food is very nice. For something abit more upmarket, you could try Memsaabs or Friends!!

Cis, get yourself down to one of the grill places mentioned if you like Grilled meat - Chicken, Lambe Chops etc. Healthy and pretty tasty.

Mrs Singh, makes some delightful dishes, that's the main reason why I rarely why i go out to eat curries!!

Shum's mentioned the tandoori type places and they are a healthy option, and to be honest that's the only Indian food i eat out, and the only place i go to is the 'Sportsman', West Bromwich, Brum.

I went to Memsaabs last night, very nice!! Also there lunch time meal is great value with 3 course meal only £6. Probably better at weekends when they have a live pianist.

Swatlands is one I go to regularly, and you often see the Hump in there. The vegetatian place in town, near fat cats, is supposed to be really nice, but doesn't appeal as no meat!

Do you mean Mirch Masala? If so, that is nice. If you don't, well, it's still nice. :D

I'm weird about going out to eat at Vege places! I don't see the point hehe

Well I'm vegetarian so I don't mind them. ;)

I'm not but I would never have a meat curry out of choice again. The veggie curry stuff of great. Far tastier than a meat curry. Give it a go Shum.

lol

Sorry I find it funny. I suppose one of the reason many non veggie asains don't eat at veggie dishes at restaurants is because they are exactly the same at home and alot cheaper, cost of making daal or paneer is pennies compared to meat dishes. Other is taste I suppose, I prefer tandoori dishes and meat tandoori is alot nicer then any veg alternative!!

But each to the own i suppose!!
