C-man Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 I think this post deserves it's own thread to the predictions, as this is analysis. Firstly, I'd like to say well done to Micah Richards, who I thought played really well on his debut, and mostly defended Arjen Robben extremely well. I'd also like to say congratulations to Wayne Rooney who obviously needed that goal for his confidence. Ashley Cole did well, and I thought Gerrard and Lampard had better games, despite the formers missed chances. Okay, now for my rant. Our defending for their goal was diabolical and I don't see how Terry and Ferdinand can blame Robinson. It should have been dealt with at the near post (Richards I think), and then one of the centre-backs in the middle. The selection and formation McClaren chose is what really worries me though. 4-3-3? Andrew Johnson on the left? What happened to 4-4-2 and Andrew Johnson down the middle? If that wasn't enough, what was with bringing Kieran Richardson on for Joe Cole? I don't think Cole had a good game apart from his cross for Rooney's goal, but Richardson has played twice this year, against Crewe and Southend. I watched him in the latter and he was dreadful. I also couldn't understand why he brought SWP on for Johnson, and not Defoe. Michael Carrick's selection just confuses me. How can a holding midfield player be so weak at tackling? He lost the ball so many times tonight I lost count (not that I was counting anyway…) We haven't improved since Sven left, and McClaren's appointment is doing nothing to inspire me, or anyone else I know for that matter. That's enough about England's performance, now to what annoyed me even more about tonight. I watch Premiership games every week and regularly see Robben and Joe Cole diving all over the place. But tonight took the piss, it really, really did. What were they trying to do? Out dive each other? It begs the question, what must Chelsea's training be like? I can't stand either to be honest. The sooner both retire the better. Rant over.
davieG Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 My overiding impression was how many times the England players gave the ball away with misplaced passes when they were under no pressure at all, the biggest culprit being Ferdinand; I though this was supposed to be one of the best parts of his game.

Pretty hopeless, then? I'm not at all surprised. My brother wanted to know if I was going to watch the England game. I said no. He was quite surprised by this - he thinks watching England is great. I told him it'd just be a typical England friendly - totally pointless, totally abject. Guess which one of us is bitching and complaining about what he just witnessed, and which one of us is feeling a little too smug? It was like watching a bunch of retards trying to f**k a doorknob!
lookwhaticando Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 Oh yes, and what's this shit with a centre-forward such as Johnson being used on the wing? What a stupid idea! 4-3-3 was nice in theory, but was deployed with the wrong players in the wrong positions.
Thracian Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 Oh yes, and what's this shit with a centre-forward such as Johnson being used on the wing? What a stupid idea! 4-3-3 was nice in theory, but was deployed with the wrong players in the wrong positions. Between the two coaching eggheads they didn't seem to have the faintest idea how to implement the system and how to make it work. Johnson looked like a beached porpoise - totally out of his element - and McLaren should feel ashamed putting him there and exposing him to ridicule. What the hell was Keiron Richardson doing in an England shirt?. What with six substitutes the whole concept of playing for England is being devalued and it showed tonight. We'll be getting one of those women linesmen in the squad next!.
lookwhaticando Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 Richardson's inclusion in the squad and subsequent substitute appearance took me by surprise too. If they're going to take along players who never play at a decent level, they might as well said 'to hell with it' and taken young Ashley Chambers along with them. I think we should also be trying out other options in goal - just for fun, mostly, because I like the look of that Ben Foster chap, and I reckon he could be handy at international level, even if he's not yet played extensively in the premiership. (If Richardson can play, why not Foster who's played more games?)

Manwell Pablo Posted 15 November 2006 Posted 15 November 2006 Why he doesn't include David Beckham at least in the squad is beyond me. Near enough everything we created during the world cup was either assisted or scored by him. I know he's getting on a bit but I'm sorry he's better than Carrick or Jenas. Mclaren as I said when he was appointed is totally the wrong man for the job, he's just Sven without David Beckham and the stubbornness to do things his own way. Van Der Vaart apart That was a poor Dutch side we played tonight, the midfield was severely lacking. A three man midfield of Danny F**ing Landzart, Stijn Schaars (of the mighty AZ Alkmaar) and Clarence Seedorf who hasn't played international football for two years easily matched our disappointing midfield, which is still suppose to be one the best in the world . Frank Lampard and Stephen Gerrard were below par again, and as I have been saying since he got in the world cup squad Michea Carrick is not good enough!!! I'm not even going to go into the farce that went on up front with Andy Johnson. We badly need a fit Michael Owen playing for us at full fitness because Mclaren has shown he is unable to find a effective system or player to replace him. But it's going to be September before he plays a Euro qualifier and by then we could be in a serious hole should we not win in Israel or Estonia ( I would think even in the state we're in now we will beat Andorra) On the bright side Rooney looks like he's heading for his best form, and as someone has already said Micah Richards coped well on his debut at. We do have the the Cult Hero that is Owen Hargreves to come back as well as Gary Neville and Aaron Lennon. Still...not happy....again!

Daggers Posted 16 November 2006 Posted 16 November 2006 My father must be so proud...with each England performance I become more Welsh.

I totally agree. Rooney was one of the main culprits aswell. Dropping deep to collect the ball and then wasting possession with poncy useless passes. They all need a good kick up the arris.
