stez Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 i think he did well, he provided what we've been lacking; a big man who can flick things on to hume/hammond/fryatt. should he stick with this til january when we can attemt to get a proper 'big man up front'? it worked with walshy all those years ago. Loake Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 he did well for the time he was there today but I'm not sure how well he'd cope for a full game. I doubt his composure is high in front of goal and he will not have the strikers instinct.

lcfc_jme Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 I would play a front three of McAuley hume and hammond asgainst norwich Aye, as we were discussing on the way back to the train station. We seemed to cause more problems and create more chances when playing with those 3 in a front 3, so we should give it a trial to see how it goes from the off
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 Yes lets play McCauley up front so you can all complain about how much we smack the ball up to him.

stez Posted 25 November 2006 Author Share Posted 25 November 2006 Well if you honestly believe that Stez then, it's not a bad idea. It's still a desperate suggestion, although looking at it I suppouse we are rather desperate aren't we. we are indeed! it's a case of needs must at the momentuntil january when (maybe with a little help from milan) we can purchace what we need in midfield and a proper big man up front. i know it was only 30 minutes or so, but mcauley did ok and might be an ok stop gap
Thracian Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 Yes lets play McCauley up front so you can all complain about how much we smack the ball up to him. You may be proved right but we didn't do that today. Hammond angled his runs, McAuley provided an aerial target and Porter went through on the deck. far more options, especially with others trying to join in from midfield with our 3-4-3 finish. I've got no problem with playing the longer ball now and again, . We're horribley easy to predict and we need some differnt approaches.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 Well we play long ball alot of the time, and ive not heard much moaning this season, we may aswell stick McAuley up there who can actually make something out of them. No? I don't disagree, my problems with the reaction it will get not the idea itself.
Thracian Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 It's a thought but I doubt he'll have the stamina to do it. We certainly flowed better with 3-4-3 though. Dodds would seem the better option to me.

Dodds would seem the better option to me. He's going to play 4-4-2 from the start we both know it. He needs to change it though 4-5-1 4-3-3 3-4-3 anything. I'm tempted to make a cynical remark about Gravesend and Forest Green but I bet you've had a hard day so I'll spear you it.

You're right about the hard day but I've seen enough of Doddsy's game not to be too worried about either Gravesend or Forest Green. I've no idea if he played badly or just didn't score. Whatever there could be all sorts of reasons.

Thracian Posted 25 November 2006 Share Posted 25 November 2006 Careful Thrac, seriously. Manwell will lambast you for this. It's really wearing thin on him. I'd feel the forum had lost something if Manwell suddenly stopped finding anything to lambast me for... I was nearly done for when he asked me to name a player from another club that I'd like at Leicester. See what happens when you lead a sheltered life!!! lookwhaticando Posted 26 November 2006 Share Posted 26 November 2006 It's forkin' nuts. The way people are slagging each other all the time. Quite sad. Anyhoo, McAuley up front isn't a bad idea. He's a goal scoring dynamo disguised as a centre-half. He could be tried there again for a period against Norwich (but this time can we lose Maybury instead of Stearman?) as an interim solution. But, the longer term solution completes his two month loan period soon.
Filbert_Ross Posted 26 November 2006 Share Posted 26 November 2006 Did Mcauley come on after the first goal?? backed him for 1st Goal scorer.

Wils Posted 27 November 2006 Share Posted 27 November 2006 I'd start him upfront,he done more than Fryatt when he came on. It may force us into playing a long ball but if it works who cares.
Thracian Posted 27 November 2006 Share Posted 27 November 2006 As a target man? I wouldn't play a target man as such. The problem with target men is they continually get used as a target and although we resisted it on Saturday for that short time, I doubt we'd continue to resist it as another poster suggested. We hoofed it enough to Dublin and MDV which was awful at times. But Dodds is a specialist striker who can head the ball. My first impressions Saturday was that McAuley was dangerous when the ball came across - indeed was so close to a goal at the far post - but didn't win too many worthwhile flick-ons when the ball was launched to him down the centre anyway. I wouldn't dream of saying that will always be the case but I'd definitely want to retain a passing approach in general play rather than the hoof and flick idea...other than as an occasional variation. I give lots of thought to our attacking and always come back to someone like Andy King with his ability to ghost into the penalty box as our main missing link, apart from the lack of a right winger. None of our other central midfielders actually get into the box at all and can't head the ball if they do. They are perhaps having a dip from outside the box more often but they don't really get inside it. King would do that and he can head em well enough being close-on six foot. I'd use McAuley later when people are tiring and when he can give maximum effort for a shorter time.
Lichfieldfox. Posted 27 November 2006 Share Posted 27 November 2006 Got to be desperate to play a centre back up front. This seriously worries me....Levein did it in his last days with Stearman. A team with 4 centre backs (6 defenders) no wonder we can't win at the moment. Really need some decent midfielders back or throw in Eric again. BartonFox Posted 27 November 2006 Share Posted 27 November 2006 Oh do me a favour.
