Leicfox Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Managing director Paul Fletcher has revealed Coventry City are ''in the early stages'' of talks with an unnamed investor which may lead to a takeover of the club. The Sky Blues, who are £28million in debt, are hoping their fortunes will be transformed by a cash injection in the coming weeks ... enabling new boss Iain Dowie to build a promotion-winning side with summer transfer funds. http://www.thisishampshire.net/sport/saint..._investment.php Now did Dowie choose Cov over Leicester ? It makes you wonder as Fletcher says Dowie was fully aware of the situation prior to joining,
lookwhaticando Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Bluster. All boards of all football clubs, with a few exceptions, are always looking for additional investment. It's their principle function - to look for investment for the business. Hence, Mr Fletcher could credibly claim to Dowie - if in fact he did - that the club was in the early stages of bringing in new investment... after all, the early stages involve nothing more than looking for potential investment. Also... let's consider the situation. Coventry claim Dowie chose them over Leicester - the now richer rivals to the East. Fans and commentators are sceptical of that - after all, Dowie spoke to Mandaric about the Leicester job long before Mandaric took control... yet somehow he didn't land the job. So... when news of potential investment in Coventry surfaces, there's a perfect opportunity for the club to reinforce the concept of Dowie actually choosing Coventry as his employer. Just tell the fans that Dowie knew the money was about to roll in and suddenly the story about selection seems more credible... Or am I too cynical?

MC Prussian Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Coventry in talks with investor Coventry are in talks with an unnamed investor that could lead to the takeover of the Championship side. "There are things going on behind the scenes at the moment, but talks are still in the early stages," said club managing director Paul Fletcher. "We are looking for new investment. When the time is right we will announce what is happening at Coventry City." City are hoping any takeover will eliminate their £28m debt and provide transfer funds for boss Iain Dowie. Fletcher added: "Investment is vitally important. You can't trade yourself out of £28m of debt, you have to reform the club and we are doing that both on and off the field with new and different initiatives that are all part and parcel of Operation Premiership." Fletcher said he did not know whether Dowie's decision to take over the manager's vacancy at Coventry had anything to do with a possible takeover. "The decision to bring Iain here, along with something else that we hope is going to happen in the next few weeks, are two key components of Operation Premiership," he said. "Iain was made aware of the situation and the ambition of the club but you would have to ask him whether it influenced his decision to come here." MC Prussian Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 28 million in debt! Oh poor Cov... Now look at Ipswich...
Flynny Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 28 million in debt! Oh poor Cov... We went under with 30 million, didn't we? If they do the same they lose 10 points and get relegated. That'd be a laugh.
C-man Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 It's the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Maybe we won't be laughing at Cov for much longer
Master Fox Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 It's the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Maybe we won't be laughing at Cov for much longer How do you know this?
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Cov are planning 'Operation Premiership'..... Whoooooooooooooo
Jon the Hat Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 We went under with 30 million, didn't we? If they do the same they lose 10 points and get relegated. That'd be a laugh. I wouldn't wish that on anyone frankly. The 10 point deduction is a joke. You don't get deductions for getting an other sort of cash "advantage" so why this? Makes no sense to me. If football is a business it should be able to to use business facilities such as Admin.
Finnegan Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 It's the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Maybe we won't be laughing at Cov for much longer Yeah 'cos American investment is proven to be an instant winner everywhere. Just look at Villa's soaring Premiership status.
JoeyB Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 It's the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Maybe we won't be laughing at Cov for much longer How do you know this? yeah how do you know that? surely he would go for a prem club instead of a championship club.
Finnegan Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 yeah how do you know that? surely he would go for a prem club instead of a championship club. Like Mandaric did?
JoeyB Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 yeah how do you know that? surely he would go for a prem club instead of a championship club. Like Mandaric did? Madaric stepped down from a prem club to take a championship club to the prem. if you own the Miami dolphins surely you would have enough money to buy a prem club, Charlton, Bolton etc
Finnegan Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Didn't we go over this like a thousand times? Financially it's a better investment to take control of a championship club and get them promoted then buy a Premiership one.
Mort Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 It's the owner of the Miami Dolphins. Maybe we won't be laughing at Cov for much longer Wasnt he the one who was backing Souness in his Wolves bid?
C-man Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 How do you know this? I dunno. I just made it up to see what the reaction would be. Seriously, he has links with Fletcher and I wouldn't be suprised to see it happen to be honest.
vanfox12 Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Wasnt he the one who was backing Souness in his Wolves bid? I think you're confusing him with the man who owns Sale Sharks RUFC.
lcfc_jme Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Cov just want to be like us. For sure. Pathetic. I love Cov being poor. And worse than us. And below us in the league.
