Girlfriend Trouble

Hi guys, not going to go all soppy on you now, but I'm wondering if I could ask your advice?

My missus has put the phone down - nicely - on me and we've been going out six years. She's in a Professional job - as a Teacher with good money - and I've recently quit the profession and been on the sick for 4 months and am due to go back to work in an employment agency job at £6.70 per hour.

Now, I'm looking to sell my 54 reg Megane and have lots of options, but she's becoming really bossy about it. We don't live together and she has said that she is going to be the breadwinner and I have no prospects - i.e. she will always be subsidising me. Should she therefore be saying it in that manner, only because I haven't told her what I'm doing with regards to the car. Now, her mum is quite a domineering person and always puts her awe in.

So, what do people think. Am I in the right because I have every right to make the decision or is she, even though she's been derogatory to me with regards to saying I have no prospects even though I'm educated with a Degree and a PGCE qualification.

Any response is well appreciated

Thanks !!

I think that was a bit brutal of her to be fair.

She can't go around telling you she's the breadwinner and you're a drag. That's just not on.

As for the rest of your post, I'm having trouble making out exactly what's going on... but maybe that's just me. I'll give it another crack of the whip later.

But what I said about her being a bit too un-nice about it stands.

Has she said that just once or repeatedly?

It is not easy to tell from your post whether she is a bit arrogant or just a little annoyed at the moment.

Perhaps she doesn't understand your attachment to your car and you have been quite defiant about not telling her what your intentions are with regard to it? That would annoy many women who would interpret that as you being irresponsible and stuff like that.

Plus... it is easy to get wound up at times and say something you don't really think ...

PS: I am after a nicely-paid teaching job. Can you tell me more? :P

i think deep down you know what you should do, you just want someone to agree with you. have courage and do what you think is right.

Peter: Oh my god, Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits. It says, 'Oooooo.'

Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

Hahaha. I'm taking the phone off the hook (i.e. not check it while I receive no text messages) for the next couple of hours and reading this.

There you go Lineker's Left Foot...just sit down and read the quotes from that site with your bird and you'll both be guffawing in no time

Thanks for all that !! I think it's due to the fact that she doesn't want me to make a decision independently, without her having the 'final say' !!

Sorry, if my original post is a bit hard to read !!! But yes, she does always like her own way and think she's right about things !!

Well... she is a woman.

Clearly you are going through a difficult patch. If she loves you, she'll help you through it.

Dont see why she assumes she has to be the breadwinner from now on? Though if that is important to her then I guess you will have to rise to the challenge!

Hope it works out buddy

I am a visitor on her but will have my say if you don't mind.

I can imagine it's not good for the self esteem but you have to keep reminding yourself and her quote "I'm educated with a Degree and a PGCE qualification"

Is she really on that much money being a teacher?I would have thought your new job's wages wouldn't be too far off hers.

I have a similar mother in law who lives in the past when she thinks that the bloke should earn a whole lot more then the woman however this should not be about her so try to ignore it.

I would actually tell your misses about selling the car before you go ahead and do it.She might then realise how tough the situation is for you and back off a bit.

Good luck anyway

I had the perfect answer until a week ago - an antique cast iron ball, chain and leg manacle - but I've sold it to a guy in London.

On reflection I should have had a few thousand copies made cos it was the sort of thing that might have given lots of guys a bit of peace and quiet if used in conjunction with waymarker posts in remote places.:D

I totally agree with both points (in fact with the whole of your post).

Telling your misses about selling the car follows from what I said in my previous post. I recommend you do it.

Good luck.
