Tit for tat? Political stunts, taking away pressure from UN sanctions was the motive for the kidnap, i'm just glad it's all over!!

James. Posted 4 April 2007 Author Posted 4 April 2007 I really can't see how Iran are better off following this whole saga. The Western world certainly didn't endorse it and I doubt they had a particularly large base of support in the Middle East either.

Iran has far most of it's modern history been a 'isolated' nation, the only thing that keeps other interested in Iran is oil. ANy aggravation etc against it, will only raise oil prices, hence sanctions were limited and nations which benefit from Iran's buying power were also against it (Russia, China India)!!! Iran is a major supplier of resource (oil gas etc) and is wealthy because of it. Many nations, nations including russia, china and India are major suppliers of arms and technology and have benefitted from Irans desire to arm itself!!! The Iraq conflict has made Iran a major player, especially a political player, countries such as russia are very willing to help Iran feed jihadis and weaponry to Iraq, for what Russia calls the US's version of the Russia - Afghan war ie it's payback time!!!!

Were not the military might we used to be, and majority of our soldiers are hooked up in Iraq and Afghan and other peace keeping\UN missions, without the US it would be very difficult to flatten Iran without heavy casualties!!! US still lead the world in advance military equipment, unfortunatley nations like Britain, France, Russia, China etc have been selling weaponry and technology to the middle east eg Libya have just purchased 18 Rafeles Superjets from France for $3.4 Billion!!!

Could have something to do with Iran having one of the biggest armed forces in the world. They're definitely in the top 10 with 3 or 4 potential allies also at the top of the list. Three or four times more troops then ourselves and 99% of them I guess guarding the home front. .............and why should we bomb the Iranian people. The vast majority of whom have done nothing to support the actions of their military?

Monk Posted 5 April 2007 Posted 5 April 2007 I thought it was hilarious. The bloke obviously had Blair wrapped round his little finger. Diplomatically they were never going to execute them. The media here have blown it out of all proportions too, which doesnt help. Alejamabad or whatever his name is was clearly holding back the laughter when he released them. If we'd just made up some crappy story and said our gps wasnt working, and it was an accident, then its have been over sooner Bottom line is - leave Iran alone.
