With the confirmation of the termination of Martin Keown's contract by mutual consent, it is only right that we look back over his time at Leicester and take a look at his stats to give you something else to discuss for the day and as a tribute to the veteran defender's short time at Leicester.

Why are we letting him go ;)

His defensive knowledge is useful but thats about all. There are more reasons to get rid of him than to keep him. Like his age, his injury proneness, reliability..

Can't wait till we have a settled younger team.

I'd rather have Keown then Dublin but looks like Dublin ain't moving his fat arse

I think that CL views Dublin as a possible back up to his striking options, at least until the end of the season (and therefore Dublin's contract). You could also see Dublin's experience as being useful if that we end up in the play offs, and yes I am trying to give up the mind bending drugs.

I'm glad he's gone. I didn't like his attitude or the way he played. He gave away stupid freekicks late on in games in dangerous positions with his constant shirt pulling and his one armed salute at the end of victories annoyed me. He was trying to make it look like he cared for the club when he obviously didn't. Tim Flowers used to jump infront of the Kop when we won games and although he wasn't here very long, he cared about the supporters and the club. I know many of you seem to hate Matt Heath but I was always much happier when he was playing instead of Keown because I know he cares about the club and will do his best whenever he plays. Matt Heath is a good defender apart from his distribution so if he can improve that then I think he can be a very good player for us. I'm sure some of you will disagree with that though.

I agree,I also think his behaviour towards Micky Adams was very unprofessional, whatever the justification.Lets get on with the rebuild!

tbh i think he was useless any way

59742[/snapback]

Maybe not useless, but I felt disappointment, not so much because of his onfield play, though he looked less comfortable without a decent midfield than at Arsenal, but I am sure that he is undermining the dressing room, though I think Mickey handled it badly. This cannot be allowed to continue if some team spirit is to gel.

Craig has not played Matt Heath or Richard Stearman as much as I expected. The reason seems to be that he wanted to assess who else to keep, knowing that he would keep these two.

Matt heath could do with some coaching from Matt Elliot in reading the game, and in distribution. Both Matts are some of the best headers in our team at set Pieces, being on target more reliably than Scowcroft. We need to get goals somewhere. I look forward to seeing ME captaining more games before the summer. Isn't he one of the top 3 scorers ever for LCFC in the premiership (with Heskey and Muzzy)? Overpaid at the moment yes, but a real Leicester City Legend. Who will be the next Captain to score twice in a cup final, and raise silverware?

Looks like Elliott will retire fairly soon and claim off the insurance - Just like Matt Jones did.

Just because a player cares for the club, it doesn't mean I would neccessarily have him in the team over someone who perhaps doesn't hold the same affection. It's about ability and application, and Keown combined those two attributes. Heath? Well, he does try...

I tend to cringe when I hear Heath is in the team because he is a constant liability. His distribution, positional sense and technique are terrible and he gets bullied far too easily by opposing strikers. He is a threat at set pieces, but he is primarily a defender, and not a very good one at that...

Everyone is hating on Heath recently. If he's a liability then what is Dublin  Matt is nothing special i admit but he'll do a decent job in this division as well as be a threat up front for corners and free kicks. I think he's fine for this season given where we are in the league, but next season we definately need 2 new central defenders if Stearman is going to be held back even more.

I don't hate Heath, I just don't rate him. Dublin is a lot more solid at the back, wins more headers, marks better and is generally a bigger presence.

Me and Scowy are very persuasive :P

On a serious note, I think Dion is a better defender than Heath

Dublin is a threat from corners and crosses into the box, it is just the flick ons he seems incapable of. He has better technical ability to Heath and is far stronger.

To be fair though, they are two slow lumps.

Maybe so, but he makes more suicidal mistakes than anyone else in the team. His distribution is as bad as Heath. Plus i really don't like him so Heath > Dublin ;)

And he's nearly 15 years older.;)

Apart from the Blackpool game, I can't think of any other 'suicidal' mistakes...

A near suicidal mistake against Reading when Stearman had to bail him out of the shit!

Heath isn't anything special, but he is capable of scoring goals from set pieces and other than his own goal this season he doesn't ever put our goal under threat. His distribution is awful, but so is Dublin's, Dabizas and the late Keown. Perhaps the majority of defenders can't pass, that's why they are defenders! Stearman can pass and that's who needs to come to the forefront now, we need to build the team around him I reckon. Levein needs to be brave and chuck him in, he'll make a mockery of the wankers we've been playing at the back.

Dublin.....................................piss off.

To be fair, people keep saying about our defenders' distribution, does no-one think that this is partly or mainly due to the lack of midfield support when the defence has the ball? I can barely ever remember Joey G coming back to help out his defence and ask for the ball in the same way that Lennon used to.

I think Dublin, Dabizas and Heath are all very average and none of them are consistent with their passing. I also think their general defensive qualities are nothing special, obviously they have some reasonable defensive attributes, but passing isn't one of them. Dublin and Dabizas's is positional skills are good but so they should be with their experience in the game. But Dublin stands off far to much and gives the impression he's better than he is with his 'Hey I'm Dion Dublin don't you know you're not allowed to take the ball off me' unfortunatlely some teams like Blackpool wern't fooled. Dabizas is a fool with his constant fouling.

The ability for a defender to play good passing football has a lot to do with natuaral ability, experience and confidence, Well at least Heath has the excuse that he's not as experienced or as confident as Dublin and Dabizas are/should be. It also helps if someone with those abilities is playing along side you. Even Keown has been shown up as lacking in his passing skills in our shit team.I'd like to see Heath play along side a young, but experienced high quality centre back then we would find out how good he is. It also helps to have full backs and midfielders you have confidence in.

The same applies to goalkeepers I've noticed that all our goalkeepers seem reluctant to pass to the backline even when they look relatively safe, this is because they don't trust them and are worried that if they cock up and the oppo score the goalkeeper will be viliefied. In good quality teams that play from the back defenders are often quite closely marked, relatively speaking but are still given the ball because the goalie has that confidence.

You're right SheffFox, the only game where I can remember it happening was Blackpool at home when Joey and Gareth continually came back in what was a very open midfield for the ball but Dublin, Keown and dabizas were all guilty of ignoring them on more than one occasion, resulting in Dublins cock up.

I remember the Reading cock-up, didn't Reading score shortly afterwards?

I'm not particularly happy with any of our central defenders. When Dublin reverted to centre-half, his performances did improve from when he'd been playing up front, but lately, he has started to make noticeable mistakes. Dabizas is a liability, I don't think I've ever seen a player give away so many stupid free-kicks. Heath just doesn't look like the player he was potentially touted as; he does look better however when those around him are having good games. With Keown, I think the fact he obviously doesn't have the fitness to play regularly is a key factor in CL wanting to get rid of him.

I do agree that the lack of support from midfield is having an impact on the way our defenders perform.

our best defender is not even in the 1st team atm, Richard Stearman. i say get him in look how well the kid played against Plymouth.
