davieG Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 From OS City Book Pontins Spot Leicester City have applied to take part in the Pontin's Holidays League next season. City have not been involved in a reserve league structure since their stint in the Premier Reserve League South came to an end in 2006. The Foxes must now wait to find out if they will be entered into the Division One Central, East or West league structure. Leicester also confirmed that they would be playing all their home reserve team matches away from the Walkers Stadium. City's Club Secretary Andrew Neville said: "As we expect to have a larger first team playing squad next season, we have applied to join the Pontin's Holidays League. "We will be playing our home matches at the Marston's Stadium, Hinckley, which will help us to protect the Walkers Stadium pitch. "We will be in a better position to confirm which of the three divisions we will be playing in as soon as the Premiership and Championship seasons have ended." Still think they should be played at Filbert Way, I don't buy this pitch protection excuse. If we've got a bigger squad there's many that would like to see what they're about without having to swan over to Hinckley.

I'm glad it's at The Marsten's should be able to get down to most of the home games next season.
davieG Posted 9 May 2007 Author Posted 9 May 2007 I'm glad it's at The Marsten's should be able to get down to most of the home games next season. Well it's not a big problem for me from Glenfield, I was trying to take an unselfish view
davieG Posted 9 May 2007 Author Posted 9 May 2007 It needed to happen. Delighted with the venue. Now there's a surprise
Ric Flair Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Well it's not a big problem for me from Glenfield, I was trying to take an unselfish view To be fair, i've watched the ressies down at The Walkers before and it's horrible in an empty stadium. Hinckley's venue makes it seem more competitive.

Geo V Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I am not familiar with the venue but our inclusion in any reserve league is a must. Thankfully MM is in a position to allow our second string to play "competitive" matches. Nice one.
AyewJoking Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Protect the Walkers Stadium pitch only if we're gonna play football on it.

Mort Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 It also means that we wont be pointlessly promoting kids from the academy to be kicking their heals, they'll get a chance to prove themselves and it'll also be good for bringing players back from injury... so it'll help all round fitness within the squad, improve chances for our younger players to break through and help injured players get back in shape... so glad we've got it sorted now!
Benji Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I like the sound of this bit From OS City's Club Secretary Andrew Neville said: "As we expect to have a larger first team playing squad next season, we have applied to join the Pontin's Holidays League.
AyewJoking Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I like the sound of this bit That just means the players will be fatter.
Joe. Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Good decision from the club finally. It can only be good for the production of the younger players who have just signed the professional contracts with the club and for injured players coming back.
Sods Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 1st big turning point to the summer. Half expected with those 8 players gaining professional contracts. Well done city
lcfc_jme Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 It's about bastard time as well!! At least everyone will stay fit next season and we won't have players coming in who haven't played in months.
Stevosevic Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Good news, its hard to tell when players are ready for the first team purely through training and under 18 games.
fosseman Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 It's a sensible decision to play away from the Walkers. I wouldn't want the pitch ruined for the Tigers' matches on alternate weeks from the City.
lookwhaticando Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 It's a sensible decision to play away from the Walkers. I wouldn't want the pitch ruined for the Tigers' matches on alternate weeks from the City. It was only a matter of time before the ol' groundshare possibility was raised.
Guest Gist Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Great news, hopefully will improve results on the pitch.
ThurmastonFox Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 So we can't have reserve team games at the Walkers because it might damage the pitch, surely then applying some logic that means no Tigers Wahooooo!!!!
Head Honcho Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 So we can't have reserve team games at the Walkers because it might damage the pitch, surely then applying some logic that means no Tigers Wahooooo!!!! The decision will be purely financial logic will have nothing to do with it. Great news though. The central division looks the strongest so hopefully we can be put in the strongest league.
