MBK Posted 10 June 2007 Share Posted 10 June 2007 http://www.redbulls.com/soccer/salzburg/ Welcome, Sasa Ilic! Sasa Ilic becomes Bulls' first summer swoop! Red Bull Salzburg confirm the signing of Sasa Ilic, capped 30 times for Serbia. Red Bull Salzburg can confirm their first new recruit for the season ahead, as Serbian Sasa Ilic has completed the switch from Galatasaray to the Bulls. Ilic made a brief visit to Salzburg today to put pen to a three year contract and is to join the champions in the midst of their pre-season schedule on 18 June. Ilic was given a whistle-stop tour of both the Bulls Arena and the training complex in Taxham and was noticeably impressed with the facilities. The goal-hungry attacking midfielder is 29 years-old, stands 5 foot 11 inches, and has earned 30 caps up to now for his native Serbia. Ilic was given a taste of the action in Germany 2006 when he grabbed a goal in the group match against Ivory Coast. His career has so far taken him to: Partizan Belgrade, Celta Vigo (Spain), Partizan Belgrade (again) and Galatasaray Istanbul. Oliver Kreuzer: "I am delighted that Sasa Ilic has opted to join us. He is a player we really had our eyes on and he should give some real extra bite to our attacking play." Note that the original link from Sky Sports mentioned Salzburg

The Reverend Posted 10 June 2007 Share Posted 10 June 2007 It would have been one audacious move if we'd of signed him for sure. Was never realistically going to sign really. Too good for the championship. Miles too good.
potter3 Posted 10 June 2007 Share Posted 10 June 2007 Yeah but he was easily worth €900K, thats about £600K And we surely could have paid that (assuming he would come here...)

Yeah, but you look at some great Premiership players who went for hardly anything. Its all about the wages, the division, the club and im afraid until we get back into the Premiership its unlikely we will be signing any players of his class.
