Thracian Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 United got what they deserved. They sold their soul, didn't play at pace, didn't support attacks in numbers and got caught with a predictable sucker punch. How they need a player of Drogba's quality. Rooney can't do it as lone central striker against top sides any more than he could in the World Cup.
Jay Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 I wonder how the media will dress this mutton up as lamb. Was that one of the most boring FA Cup Finals ever!!!!! think I made the comment in the second post on this thread cup finals with 2big sides are usually always a massive bore and this proved me right
lildave3 Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 The first half was terrible but i'd go as far as saying I enjoyed watching it from the 2nd half onwards tbh. And i'm glad Chelsea won.
breadandcheese Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 What a boring final. With the strength and quality available to both managers, to line up with only one attacker up front is appalling, especially for the first New Wembley showpiece final. The Man Utd players hardly looked bothered when they lost. A poor final.
Anish Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 Man United deserved nothing for effectively playing 4-5-1 when they had the likes of Solskjaer and Smith on the bench and available. I don't begrudge Chelsea's lone striker approach because they've used it plenty of times (and played this system for 2 years before Shevchenko arrived), but for Man United to match Chelsea rather than play their usual expansive and attacking game was suicidal. Scholes should have been pushed much further forward, and Fletcher should never have started. Plus Man United were awful at supporting Rooney, nobody was bursting from midfield or getting into the box. Credit to Chelsea, what a waste of an opportunity for United though.
Wils Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 Disapointing game. Both teams didnt want to commit that was obvious.
Master Fox Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 We should have had this: But we ended up with this: I wonder if LWICD will delete this?

All very true particularly about Fletcher. I honestly don't understand how he gets in their team. Whether it's just by chance I don't know but whenever I see him play he looks a class below the rest of the team. He lost the ball in a dangerous area today and never had any real impact. Why Ferguson, why?
Bert Posted 19 May 2007 Posted 19 May 2007 Essien is a god. I think he'd be a more than reliable goalkeeper. The best signing Moaniho has made imo. Did anyone hear his interview when he said " i went to phone my children because of my dog, a threat to the city of London had to go back to Portugal, so they went back to Portugal"

I'm still reeling but I've learned something. I now know the basis of the phrase "Never say never".
