JoeyB Posted 20 May 2007 Author Posted 20 May 2007 I did and had all sorts of problems, but ive changed to Kaspersky now and all is sweet. Whats that one like? is that a free one like AVG? didnt have any problems with that before? can you give us a link please?
Phube Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I use Norton (Lemond will be suprised to hear!! ) and apart from crippling the speed of the start up (old PC, no Core 2 Duo... yet!) It works fine!
Leicfox Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 Whats that one like?is that a free one like AVG? didnt have any problems with that before? can you give us a link please? Well its not free, but there is a free trial of 30 days which you can use, although im sure you could find a keygen easy enough to give you it for life without paying a penny. (I did). I use Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, which has everything in one small package. http://www.kaspersky.com/uk/trials# If you want freeware and cant be arsed to look for keygens, give this site a whirl. http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm
Jay Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I USED to have Norton but it downloaded this update thing at Christmas and then my internet stopped working everytime I opened up a web browser my computer restarted, my itunes library became corrupted I got rid of Norton and guess what as well as my computer working about 3000 times faster I had no further problems. Norton is rubbish!!
Leicfox Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 which do people find is the best out there? For just a anti-virus alone its probably NOD32 http://www.eset.com/index.php
Nod.E Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I had norton before and it did nothing for me except slow my computer up! I now use Macafee and AVG! Everything is easy going now
coale39 Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I recommend AVG free edition. Used it for years and had no problems
Joe. Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 My Dad uses Kaspersky on his computer and has no end of praise for it
mat_j101 Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 Yeah AVG is awesome. U can set it to update regularly, which is very quick, and it causes no problems
dandannieldanok Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 For just a anti-virus alone its probably NOD32http://www.eset.com/index.php I use NOD32, very efficient.
Dames Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I used Avast Home Edition. Its free and its the bollocks. On access scanner etc. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

lookwhaticando Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I'm with Phube on this one. Norton works fantastically for me. I've also had McAfee on this machine for 3 months before getting Norton (our other machines use Norton and they now allow you to install on 3 machines, so it made sense to go Norton and save a shed load of cash). McAfee was also exceptionally good, in my opinion, and I would have bought McAfee but for the Norton 3 user license being better value. I suppose it helps that my computer's got speed & power...
Daggers Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 I used Avast Home Edition. Its free and its the bollocks. On access scanner etc. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Anything this good AND free is the dogs bits...especially now they've sorted out compatibility with Vista.
Rincewind Posted 20 May 2007 Posted 20 May 2007 Used to have Norton Av. Paid over £25 for it and that wasa only for a year. I now have NTL netguard, Spybot and Adaware. They seem to do what I want. Plus with XP you get all the security stuff and updates.

MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2007 Posted 21 May 2007 Strange thing is, I just had a new one-year Norton AntiVir version downloaded and installed on my laptop and ever since it's started taking up the job, my computer starts up about 10 times slower than usually and I'm usually set to go after something like 5 minutes (which is slightly unbearable given the actual power of my laptop). But the strangest bit is that the introducing Windows jingle at the beginning sounds very distorted now. Anyone else had the same issue?
