lcfc_thefoxes Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I live in Northampton and reguarly attend leicester matches but everybody i know supports either man united or liverpool - walkers is only 10 miles further than sixfields for me but it doesnt really classify as a local club as such, but is it right to support a team that you'll never see and have no connections to or even watch but have no links to?
Father Ted Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 The thing that really gets on my nerves is people who support teams in the top four just because they are the best teams around. Defenition = Glory Supporter. But if someone like Yeovil won the premiership then they would support them!
lcfc_thefoxes Posted 24 May 2007 Author Posted 24 May 2007 Most people i know have never watched a football match which kind of annoys cos i feel its the easy thing to do supporting a big club like man u
Stevosevic Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I live a good 100miles away in Norwich, before this i lived in London. My dad dragged me to games since about 1995 and i dont have a choice in the matter, still go regularly, so i dont think you have to support your local side.

I hate plastics!!! I got so angry on Saturday walking through town seeing all the plastics in their manure shirts!! and the pathetic excuses they make as why they have never EVER been to a game!! makes me so mad!!!!

I don't think thats what He means, I think he's on about Plastic supporters who don't go to games. If you go and watch your side it doesn't matter where your from.
Tommeh Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I don't mind when people have father's relatives who have supported clubs. My dad always supported Lincoln and always wanted me to support them but living in Leicester since I was about 6 I always followed city. Also I've got a mate who's a big Liverpool fan and has supported them all his life due to his dad following them and although he doesn't make many games or has never lived in liverpool I'd never class him as a glory grabber, unlike some mates I have who support Man Utd because they're the best. I even know one person who supports Man Utd, Leicester Tigers and Leicestershire CC, madness
lcfc_jme Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I'd say it was fine supporting whoever you so wish if you have emotional ties to that club. Not just watching the odd game on the TV and thinking they're great because they win everything.
Simi Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I'd say it was fine supporting whoever you so wish if you have emotional ties to that club. Not just watching the odd game on the TV and thinking they're great because they win everything. That's what I hate. Every time that team wins something on TV they come in the next day: "Yeh, what a team. We are the best ever...Shitty Leicester City haha they're shit" People like that. In my opinion have no idea about what football is and what it's all about.

Plastic Glory Grabbers really fook me off, and I really do feel like laying in to some of them. I finally, just last week in the 18th year of my life, met a Manchester United fan who attends games as well as watches them on the TV. He is what I'd call a proper fan.
lcfc_thefoxes Posted 24 May 2007 Author Posted 24 May 2007 I aprreciate the fact though that eveyone cant get to games and cant afford them, especially the prices in the prem but even though im not a leicester local i still feel i have something with them....
lookwhaticando Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 Supported Leicester since I got interested in football back in primary school. Everyone else at the school supported Derby, but it wasn't for me. Although I lived on the edge of Derby at the time, I picked Leicester since I was born in the county. Still not managed to get to a game though, all these years later... 12 to be exact. Bigger fan now (since joining FoxesTalk mostly) than I've ever been. Quite odd really.

Emotional ties to the club though for sure. You feel the pain we all feel during the hard times.
Brainy Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I think I picked Leicester because i liked the name.....
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I live in Northampton and reguarly attend leicester matches but everybody i know supports either man united or liverpool - walkers is only 10 miles further than sixfields for me but it doesnt really classify as a local club as such, but is it right to support a team that you'll never see and have no connections to or even watch but have no links to? You can't live in Northampton then! Where are you, Brixworth or somewhere? Had no ties with Leicester at all other than my Dad supporting them but he first took me when I was 5 so I've never known anything else. When I went to uni there I already felt a close bond with the city and was fiercely defensive of anyone who took the piss out of it. I can see myself moving back there some time soon.
Joe. Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 I feel to be a 'supporter' you gave to go and regularly watch your team. So when I see a lot of people saying 'we' this and 'we' that about the big four it annoys me. Most of them have never been to the team's home ground before. I don't think you have to live in the area really, just have ties with them or go and support them often.
Sods Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 haha this is typical of my town brackley. this is a general conversation you get, 'what team do you support then' 'leicester city' 'and' 'leicester city' 'yeah but who else caus their shit haha' 'yeah enit mate' 'fook off you glory hunting ****s' then theirs the issue with my local team brackley town. who are now in the southern league prem. a lot of people say leicester are shit, so what are brackley town. they call them a sunday league team which is a fooking insult. Then when we play a big game all the bastards come running. This is what i hate about football
NoFX Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 You support the team where you were born, or the team your Dad followed, it's the football way.
potter3 Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 You should support the team you have ties to, I was born in Leicester etc. my dad supports Leicester etc.

Most of these pre-pubescent nincompoops only latch onto successful sides due to their own lack of self-esteem.
Alexikokopops Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 Born and bred in Lincoln, my mum's side of the family support Leicester, my mum turned my dad into a Leicester supporter when she first met him. My mate's a Man Utd fan, but that's from his dad and they do actually make it to matches, including travelling to Europe to watch them.
