The real problem is the amount of working mothers (I'm not having a go at anyone, my wife works and so did my mother). With 2 incomes coming in to the household there is more money in the system there fore pushing up inflation. For example more people can afford to buy a bigger house so it goes to highest bidder the price goes, needing a bigger mortgage and so cancelling out the extra income earned by the wife.

There are more and more of us working longer and longer hours and yet we all seem to be getting poorer. We farm our kids out to strangers who don't have the authority to discipline them therefore creating problem kids,

It would be nice if we could turn the clock back 30/40 years but that's never going to happen. What the solution is I just don't know.

I agree with you.

The buck stops with me if my nipper turns into satans child, but she won't! I'll make damn sure of it :D

Some bloke was on radio 5 not so long ago saying pretty much the same thing and some feminist bird came on after slating him to high heaven, but he was actually speaking sense.

Tbf it's something Peter Hitchens often says in 'The Mail on Sunday'(cue slagging off from resident Guardian readers). It makes sense to me.

Never was opposed to either mate, just the incompetent and expensive way they are implemented. I'm not in any way suggested the Tories have all the answers, just fed up to the back teeth with New Labour bullsh!t.

You've either forgotten or didn't live through the Thatcher years.

The Tories were FAR worse..

It's not snobbery that makes me say this.

It's just that the Mail is a horrible, reactionary, anti-value, anti-everything rag.

And for what it's worth, when I do read a paper, it's the Independent.

But not at the time

lol

The voting public at the time didn't believe the Thatcher years were far worse than New Labour's?!

Well, I guess you're right on that one. :D

I agree with TPH. :o

That paper is routinely misogynist, homophobic and not above making stories up to sell copies. I note this week it lost ANOTHER libel case..

Even Tony Blair calls them "feral beasts"... - and he's one of their friends!

There will be a small apology on page 17 then....

But nobody under 70 actually reads the Express these days..

Or do they?

I've just had an amazing telephone conversation with some girl in Liverpool about that very issue.

Despite having informed them about each and every change in our circumstances, promptly and clearly (as I believed the guff that it was only 'naughty' people on the make that got landed with big bills), I received three assessment forms for the last three years this morning.

They have been overpaying us from the third week of us claiming.

"Surely you must have realised this?" she says.

They have negated to include my wife's salary in all previous assessments...I am gobsmacked.

  • To not have done the job properly is stupid.
  • To have left it two and a half years to get it right is amazing.
  • To have (effectively) ignored every phone conversation we have had with them it simply abject institutionalised incompetence.

So, here are we now facing a bill of between £3,200 and £11,540 (depending which sheet you read as there are different totals on each).

Hmm....looks like I'm now facing a change in work patterns! I'm going to have to give up the freelancing, the studying and the book writing and go get me a full-time job again...funnily enough SF, not a million miles from the one you used to do - I was already completing the application form and attending a seminar on Tuesday ;):D

Anyway, HM R&C...grrr :@

Each cloud etc etc stoll.

I argued with them for two years over mine becuase I refused to pay it back as I had informed them of everything when they required it.

Quite strange but I've heard nothing from them in over six months.

Just keep telling them that you dispute it, thats what I did.

But it's very out of character for me to belligerently continue to harp on about the same thing over and over and over

No one ever voted for Mrs Thatcher but she won 3 elections, go figure :dunno: .

More often than I care to admit..

Yes, it might have the occasional dig at Blair and his missus on a personal level - but will rarely disagree with him on a political level - and only then because he doesn't happen to be Margaret Thatcher.

Must be a different Daily Mail then.
