Suffolk_fox Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I agree. Bastardoes. They awarded me Tax Credits a few years ago, then after a couple of years they stopped. Now they want me to pay them back. Fookers.
Daggers Posted 14 June 2007 Author Posted 14 June 2007 I agree. Bastardoes. They awarded me Tax Credits a few years ago, then after a couple of years they stopped. Now they want me to pay them back. Fookers. I've just had an amazing telephone conversation with some girl in Liverpool about that very issue. Despite having informed them about each and every change in our circumstances, promptly and clearly (as I believed the guff that it was only 'naughty' people on the make that got landed with big bills), I received three assessment forms for the last three years this morning. They have been overpaying us from the third week of us claiming. "Surely you must have realised this?" she says. They have negated to include my wife's salary in all previous assessments...I am gobsmacked. To not have done the job properly is stupid. To have left it two and a half years to get it right is amazing. To have (effectively) ignored every phone conversation we have had with them it simply abject institutionalised incompetence. So, here are we now facing a bill of between £3,200 and £11,540 (depending which sheet you read as there are different totals on each). Hmm....looks like I'm now facing a change in work patterns! I'm going to have to give up the freelancing, the studying and the book writing and go get me a full-time job again...funnily enough SF, not a million miles from the one you used to do - I was already completing the application form and attending a seminar on Tuesday Anyway, HM R&C...grrr Each cloud etc etc stoll.
The People's Hero Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Their incompetence really does beggar belief.

Katy Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I'm not fond either. I'll let Stez fill you in on what happened to us. Proper tonic for post natal depression those fockers are
BartonFox Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I love the way all these departments can make mistakes and yet the poor punter in the street is still liable for their incompetence. If some pen pushing f'ckwit can't do their job right then deduct it from their pay, they won't make the same mistake again and if they do that's their fault for being a think useless waste of humanity.

I feel for you Dave, if I had to pay that amount back I would be bankrupt and I mean that seriously. How can you be made accountable for them fooking up, it makes me sick.

The thing for me is - I am (believe it or not) sodding bright, I have certificates and qualifications from here to Wahey. If an intelligent, diligent, conscientious person can be dicked over by these idiots what chance does anyone have? In short, the entire system is inept and is geared to dick over anyone and everyone using it regardless of how honest you are. It's going to be tough in the short term, finding money for essentials, but we'll tighten our belts, knuckle down and get on with it - life goes on. The last thing I want to do is let something like this become a focus in our lives...there are far more important things to worry about: Health Happiness and spouting rubbish on FT

Daggers Posted 14 June 2007 Author Posted 14 June 2007 I love it when people get threads mixed up. Simply love it. Levi Porter is shit.
hairy Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 So the tax man with fat kids is the lowest form of life?
Jon the Hat Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I am lucky enough to have avoided this shit by always having enough income not to qualify for anything. I cannot understand how a policy which is there to help support those on low incomes can then justify reducing said income by demanding it back. Unbelievable. This whole thing is a entirely predictable result of the most insanely bureaucratic nightmare ever conceived by Govt.
act smiley Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 So the tax man with fat kids is the lowest form of life? The tax man is what bitter fat kids become in later life.
Guest Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Why am I not surprised by the level of incompetence shown by our IR?
Nationwider Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 I work for HMRC. I am, therefore, a foul, wingéd, blood-sucking denizen of the night. I have nothing to do with tax credits. In true civil servant stylee, I pass the buck on this one. Not my bag. I joined the department around the time when tax credits were first introduced, and the absolute concensus on this subject is that it's been a complete ****-up from day zero onwards. Never has the distance between those in the Ivory Towers and those actually at the coalface having to deal with the general public on this issue been greater. I got my forms for our TC renewals this week. What a minefield they are. Hmm. When I get our claim wrong, I'll probably get a conduct and discipline charge as well as a repayment demand. HMRC is in meltdown, so expect things to get worse before they get better.
lcfcalan Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Am I right in thinking that the bloke who conceived and 'pushed through' the new tax credit system is the same bloke that will be PM soon ? Nice caring PM , meant to be FOR the people , not against 'em !
Daggers Posted 15 June 2007 Author Posted 15 June 2007 I work for HMRC. You bastard. And I mean that in a very loving way. xxx

I have sympathy for you though Dave it's their fvck up they should pay it. Anyway this tax credit malarkey is a joke and should be scrapped and I don't mean it should be replaced with something else. Just scrapped! Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong I'm sure you will Isn't it just like living on benefits? I have nothing against family allowance for the first couple of kids but why reward someone for having more then that? I know it's more then that and I don't mean to be flippant but I haven't received or expected a penny from the government in 27 years of employment. If I can do it why can't every other fvcker I have people working for me who won't do any overtime because they'll lose out on their tax credits! Now thats a fookin joke. ..................and don't more than a few posters on here work in insurance? Glass houses and all that It's the job of most insurance employees to prevent any insurance claim payout and by any means please tell me I'm wrong!

Glass houses and all that It's the job of most insurance employees to prevent any insurance claim payout and by any means please tell me I'm wrong! Yeah i'm sucking tax payers dry I don't work, i've been 'at home' for the past four years bringing a child up. There's only one not fantastic wage coming in so we rely on tax credits - sorry. I've paid tax and national insurance when I did work so now i'm getting it back. Decent childcare is at a minimum round here so i've had no choice but to not go to work, plus she's my child and I wanted to bring her up myself. From September my little one goes to school so there's my chance to get a job and not rely so much on 'benefits' Do you think i'm a scrounger? Do you hate me for it?
The People's Hero Posted 15 June 2007 Posted 15 June 2007 Yes. But no! The disctinction of course, depends on whether you've been 'appointed by' and therefore working for the client... or whether you're an underwriter/insurer as such and acting 'hopefully' in the best interests of the insurer. It's all a bit academic now that the FSA and Treating The Customer Fairly, Contract Certainty etc etc are in place.
