Dr The Singh Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 As if Islam is the only faith which breeds psychotic fundamentalism...Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism all have perfectly unblemished records - NOT! I don't know about psychotic fundamentalism, but all religious groups have there 'orthodox' streams.
breadandcheese Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 True to a certain extent but that doesn't condone there actions. Islamic radicals and fundamentalism was here in Britian long before 9/11, Iraq War etc, groups such as HUT were recruiting within Universities and Mosques in the 90's. What the War on Iraq and 9/11 has done, it has just acted as a catalyst and given fuel for those that believe that a book is the only political entity and that no other faith should exist!!! Absolutely agree. Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism were about in the early 1990s and late 1980s, long before George W or Blair got into power. Ask Sir Salman Rushdie, when facing a fatwa dating back to the 1980s, with people burning effergies of him and threatening to kill him. Ask virtually 90% of those same people burning pictures of Sir Rushdie, "Do you know what it is Rushdie wrote? Have you read it?" The answer would be no. As much as it is easy to put out simple cause and effect statements such as, withdraw from Iraq & Afghanistan = no more terrorism, it is completely false. As Singh says, yes, these fundamentalist groups have used these wars as a recruiting tool and that is to be looked at as some of the foreign policy decisions have been terrible mistakes, but we cannot just decide that it is our foreign policy causing this. It is simply too simplistic and will lead to more problems than it solves.
Ric Flair Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Nope. If they wish to burn to death for their cause then it is MUCH more entertaining to stop them. And let them rot in jail. Where no doubt they will very popular. And well done to emergency services who apparently dragged them out of the car. I have to say there has been some sterling work done by the emergency services in the past few days. Climbing into a smoking car to take a part a bomb, surrounded by Petrol, Gas cylinders and Nails? Incredible. Going into a burning car a day later, knowing full well it might go bang, to drag out a terrorist so that you have someone to interrogate? These guys have got more balls than most, thats for sure. Absolutely. This country is heading for a Civil War within 5 years, I don't see a way out of it. It's very precarious, if we start to victimise what are believed to be innocent Muslims then the trouble that will cause will be horrific. Having said that, if we leave the small minority of terrorists to cause devastation in this country then it's a sorry state of affairs for the people who were bought up in this country and are meant to be proud of where we live. I wouldn't like to be the person who's got to make the decisions on how to tackle this, it's potentially one of the worst predicaments this country has been in for years and years. If there are many more attacks on this country though, you'll find vigilante attacks happening to innocent Muslims, etc and that will only lead to an increase in Suicide Bombers all over our country. That really would open up a can of worms, how do you tackle that? But if we leave them to get on with it, what impression does that give off to these terrorists who live in our country and despise of us? Sadly, our country deserves everything it will get. We've been a soft touch for too long, yet quite happy to pal up with the US at every given opportunity. These terrorists have slipped in our back doors (probably literally soon) because of our slack immigration policies and we've then gone on to piss off various ethnic groups for our antics over recent years and we now have people ready to blow themselves up in our country for Allah and revenge, etc. I for one, wish we could just ship the problem out of here. But as if that's a feasible option, as people had said there's probably less than 1% of the ethnic population that carry the views of the terrorist fanatics. But if we start man handling them and persacute them, then there will be more willing to team up with them that's for sure. Tough times ahead. Can't say i'm overly keen to stay in this shit hole of a country.

Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 A couple of morons carry out an attack (that had all the gravitas of a clown going into a Primary school and handing out free balloons) and the sodding country goes into hyperbole-driven melt-down.

Daggers, I think it's fair to say though that these problems aren't going to go away though are they? How do we go about this not escalating in to a regular occurance?

Guest Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Can I come out from under the table now? No, not until you've finished.
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Hope you've all got your homes insured for the rebuild cost in the eventuality of a terrorist attack. Wouldn't want to be saddled with the mortgage with no tangible asset?
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 How do we go about this not escalating in to a regular occurance? You want an idiot-proof list of concrete steps that can be taken to avoid re-occurrence from me? There aren't any.
Ric Flair Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 You want an idiot-proof list of concrete steps that can be taken to avoid re-occurrence from me? There aren't any. Not good enough, David. I suggest Heroin as a solution, everyone will be too busy off their twat to worry about catching the 8.37 am from Golders Green to plant their latest bomb.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Not good enough, David.Shut up Sue!Hang on.... ...you're not my wife and this is not my bed.
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Shut up Sue!Hang on.... ...you're not my wife and this is not my bed. I just spat some tea out, laughing.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I just spat Just think of the effort I'd make if you swallowed.
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Just think of the effort I'd make if you swallowed. I'd swallow more if your efforts didn't leave me laughing so much.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I'd swallow more if your efforts didn't leave me laughing so much. Shut up Su...heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Shut up Su...heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Sue is feeding me lines. She also said your dinner is ready (strange time to be eating dinner, Daggers!)

Well said. They've been absolutely superb throughout this, just as they were in the immediate aftermath of the 7/7 bombings. Heroes, all of them.
