No they have them after training, nothing to do with being late or otherwise

I believe it is so it cools the muscles down and prevents the build up of lactic acid. The lactic acid is what causes the pain in muscles after a work out so they players have a faster recovery time and can then do more training - lucky buggers

Ched knows that. He said he heard that players that turn up late are being made to take them BEFORE training as well as after. He doesn't think that thats what they're normally used for or anything.

I know that and I'm just pointing put that he's heard it wrong, freezing your muscle before training would be crazy especially when they should be spending 15 to 30 minutes warming them up before commencing training to avoid injury.

There is a modern thought that cold baths/showers before training is a good thing. It is supposed to reduced the core temperature of the muscles and therefore reduce early muscle fatigue during training. However, I thought this was only used when the outside temperature were hot for the training session itself. The same modern thought also is not convinced that warming up before a session is of any value. Martin Allen must be of this opinion.

So we wont see players warming up before the game and the subs will sit on the bench with ice packs around their muscles, it may be a modern thought but it doesn't make it correct.

Besides Ched was suggesting it was used as punsihment not to enhance training, if Allen thought it was the modern thing to do they'd all be doing it.

Still think it's bollocks as punishment and as a part of the training

It's not my intention to take sides between yourself and Ched over what is only speculation anyway, just to add further to the discussion. Cold baths/showers are not "bollocks" as you describe them.

The pre-match "warm-up" you refer to will still be used as it is essential for stretching (which is nothing to do with warming up) and preparing mentally and psychologically for the match ahead.

It stands to reason that "warming up" and then going back into the dressing room only to cool down again would be a contradiction.

At least MA has the courtesy to tell you - which is more than happened even when matches were cancelled under the previous regime.

The safety officer seems a bit over zealous or over cautious to me. There were about 10 or a dozen watching training this morning and I really couldn't imagine more than the 100 or so that appear for an Academy match turning up for such games in reality.

It's a pity. However there's a much fuller programme of friendlies this season so there'll be adequate opportunity to see how the teams are shaping up then.

If he is like most safety officers he will be worried that someone will slip on the grass and sue the club. If there is any doubt the answer is no

Good to see additional training games set up to help with fitness and ball control.
