Wales midfielder Jason Koumas completed his £5.3m move from West Brom to Wigan on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has passed a medical and agreed terms on a four-year deal.

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings said: "Jason is a touch of class and I am convinced he will add a new dimension to the team.

"There were a number of other Premiership clubs interested in him, which makes me even more delighted he's chosen to join us."

The deal represents a £3m profit for the Baggies, who bought Koumas from Tranmere for £2.25m in 2002.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace said: "We have said all along we will only consider selling players like Jason if we receive head-turning offers."

The Baggies turned down previous bids from Birmingham and Fulham, who offered cash plus players.

Koumas becomes Hutchings' fifth signing of the summer, following Titus Bramble, Mario Melchiot, Antoine Sibierski and Carlo Nash.

"We've pushed the boat out to get Jason but now we turn our attention to other targets," said Hutchings.

"We've done well in the transfer market so far but there's still room to improve the squad further."

We've really missed out there.

He was well within our budget, too. ;):ermm:

Precisely.

Koumas is a good player, but not £5.3M good.

Wigan buying well though, aren't they?

Koumas looks very ordinary in the Premier League and they've paid well over the odds.

Erh no. Titus bramble pah! Not even good enough for the championship, let alone the prem.

£5.3million is a rip off. £4mill max.

They have to thought don't they? Small club with a massive budget for wages and transfer fees... but beyond that nothing to recommend them, no history, tiny support base and fairly ordinary infrastructure.

You really thought you had a chance of signing him?Good signing for Wigan, but hope they go down, premiership side that can't fill their stadium should'nt be there IMO!

Koumas would of been good for us, but at £5.3m not only do I think he's overpriced, but I also think he's out of our price range. Especially just for a single player.

Wigan were desperate and that's why they've paid over the odds.

Good player, but not going to save them from relelgation I don't think.

DAMN, I really like Jason Koumas. He could be the answer to out creative problem, because Weso and Hellings won't be able to fill-in there. Maybe Stephen clemence will make it three of a kind, our midfield looks really good on paper now, but I'm unsure of the creativeness still.

He`s one of my favourite players outside the Premiership. He changed Cardiffs fortunes almost single handedly when going on loan the previous season and continued to shine in a misfiring WBA team who couldnt defend. I thinks its a major coup for a player who is also finding his feet internationally and if Kamara is worth £6m and Chopra £5m I think that £5.3m for who I think was named player of The Championship last season is great business.

One question though, Why Wigan??????????? lol

Maybe they were the only ones offering him 5.3 million pounds?

:o How did I miss this thread?

I disagree with most of you, tbh. Koumas is a different player to his last stint in the Premiership. He's got more confidence, experience and has looked the real touch of class in every game I've seen him play. I'm not going to claim he'll waltz right into the Prem and make some super impact, but he'll certainly perform in my opinion. And I think he'll certainly justify the price-tag, if Chopra's worth 5m than Koumas definitely is.

Biggest flaw is his lazyness, really, if they can keep him motivated I really think he's class.
