Rich Fox Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 I always liked him, had a decent scoring record and was unfairly criticised, although of course he wasn't anything special. If we struggle to get anyone else we should give him a chance. Will certianly get behind him if he plays but cannot forget that away trip to Blackburn in the fa cup when he looked like he was nailed to the ground and could not jump.If hed been a race hourse hed have been shot.
Charnwood Norris Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 So what if he's leaner, he's 32 soon, I'm pretty sure he's not going to improve unless he pulls a Sheringham and becomes the master at thinking ahead . Class goal against spurs, but he's not lived up to what you'd expect: somebody with spring and good penalty area positioning.
MPH Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 I just dont have a clue how he would get in the side if we kept him. If we are to believe that we are signing DJ AND Mcleod.. well... would you really pick him ahead of hume, fryatt, cort, and those two? even if its just Dj we sign.. fryatt, hume, DJ, sappleton Cort and then de vries... Even if he has improved i cant think of any of those i would put him ahead of in the pecking order... And then you are left with the option of your 6th choice striker earning 8k a week... I dont see how MM will accept that.... And i havnt even mentioned any of the young strikers from last season. the 'up and coming' ones. Would you really want him filling a place in the reserves every week and getting games ahead of them? Nothing against the guy i just dont see a future for him at the club....
dandannieldanok Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 Wasn't particularly impressed by him today, same old story really, some very nice touches but just can't compete in the air and went missing for a lot of the game.
Sly Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 What we've got to remember is that we had Geoff Horsefield up front for us towards the back end of last season. Can anyone justify to me that he'd have been a batter option than De Vries? I still think he'd do a job given the ball on the floor and not lumped up to him from the centre back. His better games have come against Premiership teams, where he has been deployed as a lone striker. His size worries people, he's strong and can actually play football when the balls on the floor as well. He's just not very good in the air and can't jump for...
l444ry Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 It looks like he's being judged here for his performances under Levein. If he doesn't deserve a chance under Allen then City had better get rid of the rest of the rubbish De Vries played with as well, but remain. I don't recall any of them pulling up any trees either. The fact that the new regime has virtually bought a new side speaks volumes as to the standard of that bunch of wasters.

Asha Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 Give him 10-15 games...if he aint done anything by then, get rid....
Guest Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 It's alright saying "get rid", but if nobody wants to sign him, and he doesn't want out of his contract, then I would rather see him earn the money that he's being paid than sitting on his backside for the next year.
lookwhaticando Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 Give him 10-15 games...if he aint done anything by then, get rid.... Brilliant solution. We'll keep him around for 10-15 games while he continues to fire blanks before deciding he's still no good. Promotion, says who?
Webbo Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 Quite right Lisa, if we could get rid he'd be gone already.
Brainy Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 De-Vries deserves another chance. If only for that quality goal that knocked Spurs out of the F.A. Cup! He also scored 9 goals - Compare that to Elvis! Elvis surely has at least 10 goals?
