Geo V Posted 21 July 2007 Author Posted 21 July 2007 Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric has targeted "three or four" more new signings as the Foxes prepare for a promotion challenge in the coming Coca-Cola Championship season. New Foxes boss Martin Allen has already made 12 new signings this summer - including striker DJ Campbell from Birmingham in a deal which could eventually be worth £2.1million - but Mandaric insists he will continue to hand Allen his chequebook in pursuit of promotion. Mandaric told Sky Sports News: "We're still looking to improve the squad and we need a creative midfielder and defender. "We still could make three or four new signings before the start of the season. "That would take our signings to 16 which is the right number as that's a whole team and five on the bench. "We are aiming for the Premier League but it's going to be very hard and competitive and an interesting season. "We want a top-five finish and that is what I expect." The Foxes had made an offer for former England and Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler but Mandaric revealed that Allen was happier to snare Campbell after Fowler completed a move to Championship rivals Cardiff. He said: "Well to be honest the manager preferred to have DJ and that meant we didn't go after Robbie as aggressively." Mandaric defended the fee paid for Campbell - who Allen bought for Brentford for just £5,000 in 2005 - and insisted he is "a great player". He said: "Well I wish I was on the other end, buying him for £500,000 and then selling him for £2million, but that is football. "But we are very happy to have him here and we're delighted. "He's a great player and the manager has a lot of faith in him."
Stevosevic Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 They interviewed him live on SSN earlier, missed that, just saw the MA live interview though. Didn't talk much about new signings but the bloke in the studio mentioned that earlier Mandaric said he wants maybe four more signings.
Stevosevic Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Not sure how he will keep all these midfielders happy - Wesolowski, Clemence, Kishishev, Hellings and a new creative player.

That`ll be a great problem to have. We do need some more creativity in midfield so its great that MM and MA are not just settling for what they have. Another defender will probably replace the seemingly outgoing Maybury and Kenton so that too makes some sense. I think its great news that we still may have another 3 or 4 in. Well Done MM and MA for seeing what we see as supporters!

Yes it's a relief that a creative midfielder is still top of the menu, I was a little worried we may settle for what we've got in that department and maybe shift players around ie Hume into midfield to provide a bit of balance. Really looking forward to see who we bring in. Competition for places is an excellent problem to have, put that with Allens belief in work ethic, and we should have a really motivated team next season.
Solihullfox Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 I still think we will see Izale McLeod at the club (and not entirely sure that Fryatt will be off either) along with the creative midfielder and left back that we need. I wonder where the the fourth signing might fit in ?
Brainy Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Not sure how he will keep all these midfielders happy - Wesolowski, Clemence, Kishishev, Hellings and a new creative player. Im now beginning to think that Hellings will be back-up.
Mark Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Im now beginning to think that Hellings will be back-up. I'm beginning to think his signing was one of the reasons Mackay got the sack
Mr Happy Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 I still think we will see Izale McLeod at the club (and not entirely sure that Fryatt will be off either) along with the creative midfielder and left back that we need. I wonder where the the fourth signing might fit in ? Yeah I must admitt i'm quite surprised he isn't here already, I honestly thought he was going to be one of Allen's first signings. If Fryatt goes (really hope not though) and Hume is used in an attacking midfield role (unlikely but who knows?) we'll still need an extra special player up (lets face it with just MDV, DJ and Sappleton we're seriously lacking firepower!!) front which could be Mcleod. Also not being racist here - just telling it how it is - Allen brought a majority of black players this transfer season, so McLeod could well be the next being as though theres the MK Dons connection as well.

McLeod doesn't even look that good.
Zingari Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 I'm beginning to think his signing was one of the reasons Mackay got the sack you may not wrong with that
Zingari Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 quote MM ; "That would take our signings to 16 which is the right number as that's a whole team and five on the bench.". this won't encourage the players that were already here much

No... half of them need a bomb up the arse, and the rest of them need to fook off.
Zingari Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Do they need encouraging?No... half of them need a bomb up the arse, and the rest of them need to fook off. perhaps encourage was the wrong word but surely they need to be "confident" they will be given an even break in team selection.
