SystonFox Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 competition for places can only be a good thing but if we go for a striker again who would come to play back up to hume/fryatt/campbell?
reynard Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 Let's hope this is true for on the evidence of the practice games so far some players simply don't look good enough to make the top 6 of this league. imo we need the following 1 left back. this has to be the top priority as we don't have an adequate one on the books. 2 centre half. controversial but personally neither mccauley nor Kisnorbo (especially the latter) are good enough. 3 striker. yes we have signed a few but cort has never been any good and is likely to be injured most of the time. hume tries hard but is really a poor version of Dickov. 4 left sided midfielder.
Simi Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 "That would take our signings to 16 which is the right number as that's a whole team and five on the bench."We are aiming for the Premier League but it's going to be very hard and competitive and an interesting season. "We want a top-five finish and that is what I expect." Oh Milan I'm glad he mentioned a creative midfielder, I feel that's somewhere that really does need to have strength. So many times over the last seasons we have lacked in that position. Williams never really lived up to that role when he played in it.
Daz.I Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 It is going to be hard to keep all these midfielders happy but It will be nice to have the option of who we play week in week out, a creative midfielder and a left back I'd say
Jack Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 I think a centre back for back up cause let's face it N'Gotty will not be able to play 46 games. A left back definitley and i would say maybe another striker
Bluefoxtim Posted 21 July 2007 Posted 21 July 2007 I think a centre back for back up cause let's face it N'Gotty will not be able to play 46 games. A left back definitley and i would say maybe another striker I'd agree with that
Hack Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 McLeod doesn't even look that good. How do you know he is "Not that good" Frankly the way MM and MA have gone about rebuilding this team, I would back their judgment to any fans. Sure we all have favorites and our opinions on who to buy and who to keep, but get real, these guys have a lot more invested in getting these sorts of decisions right than any of us. I am not telling you to substitute MA judgement for yours, but if he thinks McLeod is a better fit and player than Fryatt then I will be more than happy with that. If McLeod or any other of the players brought in turn out to be disapointments, then we will all get on MA and the players back for that, and rightly so. But we have got to stop this I don't like, he can't play, doesn't look good crap that many come up with.
teblin Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 The creative midfielder will be left sided. Hayes is not ready from what i saw yesterday.
Blue Bob Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 I think this is brilliant news. The more competition we have for places the better. Last season was too small a squad so you had to pick the likes of hughes as there was little other choice. Now if your not up to it, you wont be in the team. This will also give us more cover for injuries and suspensions. I now expect us to be linked with loads of midfielders and defenders while the newspapers try to second guess who we are after
l444ry Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 Just a shame City have so many distinctly average/poor goalkeepers on contract. That position is so critical if the side is to progress. Bugger signing midfield players and full-backs as a priority. Bit the bullet I say. Get a relatively top class keeper in and City will be staring a serious promotion campaign in the face.
smokey Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 I'm beginning to think his signing was one of the reasons Mackay got the sack I think your spot on, was Mackay involved in the dodgy Neilsen signing too?

Yes you are spot on with a left back, left mid and centre half but i think and attacking centre mid will be a signing and not a forward. If we are injury free up front i think hume,DJ and fryatt could all have good seasons (rotating)
Thracian Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 I'm beginning to think his signing was one of the reasons Mackay got the sack It might be a good question for the MA/MM evening with the fans.
willy37 Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 i cant see where this "quality" is going to come from. fowler and hendrie would have been brilliant signings, lets hope milan has something up his sleeve
Daggers Posted 22 July 2007 Posted 22 July 2007 lets hope milan has something up his sleeve I think it would be possible to craft the words "Blue armies" into a witty response here
Manwell Pablo Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2606240,00.html Martin Allen has already made 12 new signings this summer - including striker DJ Campbell from Birmingham in a deal which could eventually be worth £2.1million - but Mandaric insists he will continue to hand Allen his chequebook in pursuit of promotion. Mandaric told Sky Sports News: "We're still looking to improve the squad and we need a creative midfielder and defender. "We still could make three or four new signings before the start of the season. "That would take our signings to 16 which is the right number as that's a whole team and five on the bench. "We are aiming for the Premier League but it's going to be very hard and competitive and an interesting season. "We want a top-five finish and that is what I expect." The Foxes had made an offer for former England and Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler but Mandaric revealed that Allen was happier to snare Campbell after Fowler completed a move to Championship rivals Cardiff. He said: "Well to be honest the manager preferred to have DJ and that meant we didn't go after Robbie as aggressively." Mandaric defended the fee paid for Campbell - who Allen bought for Brentford for just £5,000 in 2005 - and insisted he is "a great player". He said: "Well I wish I was on the other end, buying him for £500,000 and then selling him for £2million, but that is football. "But we are very happy to have him here and we're delighted. "He's a great player and the manager has a lot of faith in him." Top 5 finish, ambitious.
Brainy Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Im unsure on Nielsen. I haven't watched Leicester in pre-season but the reports from members concern me. Surely we need 1 from each position? The midfielder and defender MM has talked about, another striker, and possibly another goalkeeper
Geo V Posted 24 July 2007 Author Posted 24 July 2007 Im unsure on Nielsen. I haven't watched Leicester in pre-season but the reports from members concern me. Surely we need 1 from each position? The midfielder and defender MM has talked about, another striker, and possibly another goalkeeper We have too many Gk`s already and I dont think we will sign another. I think the main target must be another striker, especially with the news that Cort has done his hamstring.
Mark Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2606240,00.htmlTop 5 finish, ambitious. I watched that interview and it sounded to me like he said top half, never top 5 anyway.

THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Thats a little under ambitious , I'm sure he said top half too, it was live on sky sports
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Our aim is to be more like Stoke City I want us to finish above Burnley for once!!
