Quite possibly the most random thing ever.

I decided whilst at work today that I fancied a bit of Italian food for me lunch, Carbonara to be exact, so I asked the mrs if she fancied a meal at Zamanis, Market Street Ashby De La Zouch. A fine establishment.

Anyway, Im sitting there eating my Galic Mushrooms (starter, very tasty) when I notice some bloke walk in wearing a full Espanyol, Track suit. Odd to see a Espanyol fan in Ashby I thought, however it all made a bit more sense when he was followed in by another bloke, also wearing a full Espanyol track suit, who I recognised as Ivan De La Pena, absloute legend!

Anyway after ater 10 minutes mulling it over I did manage to pluck up the correge to go and speak to him (rather dawnting as I knew I would probabley have to speak to him in Spanisish, and it may well not be him) Turns out they are here for a training camp at Springs. Got his autograph, Carlos Kameni and Ferran Corominas were also present as well as a couple I didn't recognise I think one might have been a coach.

Second rate La Liga midfielders in Ashby De La Zouch, the definition of Random.

they are playing CovScum next week I believe

pff. prat, I asked him if he had a game coming up and he said he was here to train.

I suppose it's not for a week. Maybe he thought I ment competitve as well, all though the fact that I recognised him should suggest that I know Espanyol don't have any compettive fixtures in the middle of July.

De La Pena was my favorite player on Fifa '99 - always used to play him up front in a 3-4-3 with Lazio! LEgend. How random though!!

Your girlfriend must have been like "for f**k's sake, I'm not even safe from European football in a local restaurant".

You can just imagine it now...

What makes this even more random (well to me anyway) is that I was just thinking of Ivan de la Pena a couple of hours ago! I read that post in the rumours forum about that telephone line that gives all kind of dodgy rumours and it reminded me of a few years ago when I rang one and De la Pena was supposed to be signing for us then!

Did you offer to shake his hand?

I did actually shake his hand, after coming out of the toilet as well.

Bit different to the Dennis Wise scenario then ? :P

To be fair, CovScum is a training game, for all.

The only difference was I washed my hands this time.

It was just sureal. The Dennis Wise thing was quite mad, but then I was in Leeds and had been dragged to the kind of place a Proffesional footballer might go. Seeing the Leeds manager in there was unlikely but very feasible.

This was....I don't know how to describe it tbh, I couldn't believe it.

Reminds me of the occasion in the early 1990s when Villareal came to Leicester to play...... Friar Lane in a pre-season friendly. That footballing member of the hair bear bunch, Carlos Valderama and he of the scorpion kick, Rene Higuita trod the hallowed turf at Knighton Lane East . I found that I had something in common with Valderama that day apart from our similar abilities at football. He was subbed at half time and spent most of the second half stuffing his face with burgers from a dodgy stall. He's probably got a profile like Maradonna and vCJD these days

That is random!

Fancy seeing Espanyol players in ****ing Ashby!

Thats magic!

De la Pena is a legend tho, and Kameni :worship:

Indeedy, although Im thinking it may start happening on a more regular basis, I think the Springs Health Complex on the outskirts is getting pretty renound withiin the proffesional game, I know Rotherham stayed there a couple of seasons ago before they played Coalville Town, as I've said before the whole of the Derby County squad were in the Bulls head in Ashby for the Champions League Final, which I missed as I was in New Zealand, they'd be staying there, and thats were the Espanyol players had been staying. I shall be keeping my eyes open in the future whilst in Ashby during the pre season.

lol I like the way you texted me to tell me this yesterday despite the fact I'd already posted in this thread the day before!!

oh, that message was suppose to go about 3 hours after I'd seen him. But it wouldn't send, however my phone keeps resending a message until it finnally goes which by the looks of things was yesterday .

Maybe you should look back through the threads Manwell's started rather than get someone else to do it :dunno:
