Finnegan Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Funny coincidenceThe Mars Volta - Drunkship Of Lanterns For ages I was hugely unimpressed with this album. Mainly for the simple reason that it wasn't Relationship of Command. But in all honesty, the last few days the penny's just sorted of dropped. Roulette Dares could well be one of my absolute favourite songs.

But in all honesty, the last few days the penny's just sorted of dropped. Roulette Dares could well be one of my absolute favourite songs. I got to know the band through the video for "Televators" that got aired one late night on TV. Thought it to be simply beautiful, wonderful chilling music. Once you approach the album however, it's one massive and loud array of energy, chaos (?), ideas, creations. At first, it felt like my ears were under heavy attack, and I just couldn't make out the attacker. But that's not the point. Thing is, The Mars Volta are just great at exploring other musical heights, truly experimental. You could also call it progressive, an element that somehow got lost in the Seventies, when all that glitter and glamour came on board. "De-Loused In The Comatorium" is a masterpiece. Will not please the listener at first, but leave an everlasting impression. Hard to forget.

You'll probably enjoy it quite a lot.
