The last time we kept 3 clean sheets in a row in the league was - September 2002

The last time we won 3 league games in a row was - March/April 2003

The last time we scored 3 goals or more in a match was - November 2004 (against Coventry)

The last time a player scored 2 goals in a game for us was - January 2004 (Dickov against M'Boro)

The last time a player scored a hat-trick for us was - February 2003 (Dickov against MK Dons)

The last time we won an away game in the league was - December 2004 (Leeds)

The last a player came on as a sub and scored for us was - August 2004 (Benjamin against Derby, 30 league games ago)

The last time our two strikers who were playing upfront together scored in the same match was - May 2004 (Bent and Ferdinand against Charlton)

The last time a player scored on their debut for us was - August 2003 (Ferdinand against Southampton)

The last time we had a player worth over a million pounds was - August 2002 (Matty Piper £3.5 million)

The last time we paid more than a million pounds for a player was - July 2001 (Scowy £3 million)

I feel loads better after finding this out ;)

It is concerning, but hopefully things are changing for the better.

Those three highlight our current problem with consistently scoring strikers.

It does certainly highlight a problem BUT we have only really started to create any chances for the strikers recently. The service from midfield has been diabolical until 2 or 3 games ago - perhaps we have almost forgotten how to bury a team when we are on top. I think we will absolutely muller someone soon.

The service might have been poor up until recently, but Connolly should have scored about 15 goals this season if he hadn't missed all these sitters.

How many times this season have you heard, seen or thought whilst watching Connolly either shot blocked, keeper saved, one touch too many(:unsure: ) or unlucky.

Because we would have all stuck them away

Not so long ago David Connolly scored 40+ goal in around 65 games at this level and now he finally has a chance to work with a decent foil in MdV as he did in Neil Shipperley.

Once MdV is fit watch the goals come.

How many more excuses are we going to make for Connolly? We have been defending him all season and boasting about his previous records etc - well this is the present and he has missed loads of good opportunities.

He is paid to score goals for LCFC - it doesn't matter whether he bagged 40+ goals 2 years ago, that is irrelevant.

Point taken, but i've seen this happen to many strikers and they leave a club because they lose faith in them and low and behold they pop up at another club and find their form. Connolly is a goalscorer, his record speaks for itself. Granted, he's having a horrible run of form and something has to be done but in defence of the man i've seen alot worse playing for us this season. Blake, Dublin, Wright and Morris will be no better than him and unless CL buys a new striker soon he'll play.

Look at Chris Sutton at Chelsea, couldn't score for shit and everyone wrote him off and look what happened when he went to Celtic. Richard Cresswell couldn't score when he was here, he is now sitting on 16 goals this season and had a few good seasons like that. Juan Pablo Angel came to Villa with a prolific scoring record and was woeful infront of goal for a season or so, then he found his form. Jason Roberts was pretty lethal at Bristol Rovers, he went to West Brom and was goal-shy, the same at Portsmouth. He has since come to Wigan and found his scoring boots.

The list goes on, if you've scored goals before which Connolly has. He has over 100 goals to his name, if you include his 32 goals in one season for a dutch team he was onloan to when he was at Feyenoord. That's a good record, in my opinion. He obviously is seriously out of sorts and a good man manager could sort Connolly out. Levein has sorted Gillespie out when everyone wrote him off, I believe Levein will turn Connolly back in to the player he was. These aren't excuses, but when a player has a history he has worked hard for then I think they deserve to be backed.

I have been a critic of Connolly's even before we signed him ( I had seen him play in the Netherlands and he looked lightweight to me  ) but I hope the post that Hoof just made is true and that he comes good. I do think he should be judged solely on his performances at City. ;)

At the moment the fact that we have not scored enough goals is the difference between us being a play-off side and being a mid-table side. :(:unsure::rolleyes: <_<

He should be judged on what he has done here as we can't favour players from their past i.e Dublin, Dabizas and co otherwise the youngsters would never get a chance. But Connolly is our best striker, we haven't got anyone else. There isn't a solution in my opinion as Levein won't sign another striker until the summer, Connolly has always impressed me with his finishing until he arrived here

Great post Hoof.

We have to stick by Connolly and give him time, I know he will find his form eventually....we just have to be patient.

He has the goalscoring ability (hasn't showed it much here but we know he has it) so we have to try nuture that ability and try to get him scoring the bagful of goals we know he is capable of scoring.

Next season will be his year.

Dont think it,s all Connolly,s fault. How many goals did Scowy score when he was playing with Connolly. Now he,s gone see how the midfield has changed, in supplying the ball to the strike force. Yes i agree you need goals to win matches, but you also need defenders to do their part and stop goals being scored against you. Corners being at fault for most of them goals since Levine came here. Yes he needs to sort it, but 5 games later nothing has changed on that part. You imagine the pressure put on Connolly(strikers). everytime we concede. When Man U won the treble that year they had a weak defence but they knew their strikers would score more than they let in. But Leicester cant afford the millions for 1 let alone 2 strikers like they could and can. We have to get ours out of the bargain basement, so i think once the defence has improved, also a bit of pressure will come of the strikers, the pressure we dont see and feel sitting( wish it was standing) on the terraces. Im thinking, hoping the less we start to concede the more we will score. I personelly dont like bringing all players back for set pieces, and i wish Levin would see this. This is the Fizzy pop league, not Scottish Prem. .........nuff said

The only problem I have with this statement is that we have conceded 8 goals less than Ipswich (ok I know they lost at the weekend but they should be our benchmark  ). Defence is not our problem.:huh: Ipswich on the other hand have scored about 25-30 more than us. ;)

That puts the emphase back on the goal scorers. not that our defence is good

I think what Hoof is saying is spot on. Connolly has proved he is more than capable of scoring at this level. I think his confidence has been knocked. The penalty miss at Derby early on in the season couldn't have helped in all honestly. It shouldn't serve as an excuse, but I feel it is a factor.

Then he missed other chances before scoring his first goal 10 games in to the season. From there on, we all thought this would trigger off a run of goal scoring form, but that wasn't to be. More chances were missed, and I'm sure this was playing at the back of his mind. A lot of strikers go through periods like this, I feel with Connolly's evident ability and track record, this won't last for too much longer.

I think we will see the best of him next season.

I do not feel we will have to wait that long. With the team starting to play better football and Gillespie getting down the wing, I think it is now only a matter of time before he starts to bang them in.

The chances are being created. Once he hits one or two, his confidence will be sky high
