Lineker's Left Foot Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 I know we have a problem with violent crime today, but this story actually brought a tear to my eye and made me wish for harsher punishment, possibly even tough corporal and even capital punishment when there is direct evidence linking the culprits. Ok, I know I get shouted down about this all of the time, but I'm an advocater of harsh punishment and it's true to say that, those who are more for a softer, rehab. approach WOULD change their minds if something happened to themselves or loved ones Terrible Crime
JoeyB Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Disgraceful, i hope they get sent down for the rest f there life! Bring back the death penalty!
Father Ted Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Oh read that before. Lock them up forever or stone them. I bet they were the sort of 'I'm a gangster/I'm only 15 but I smoke and i'm on crack' Disgraceful
stez Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 mr nortons wife has been a model of dignity every time i've heard her interviewed. makes me sad. but i'm still not keen on corporal or capital punishment.
stez Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Stone them.Fairs fair. who stones the stoners? and do they get told not to chuck stones at peopl, because it's wrong, whilst being stoned themselves?
Trumpet Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 who stones the stoners? and do they get told not to chuck stones at peopl, because it's wrong, whilst being stoned themselves? Thats right, they "deserve" to be stoned, but shouldn't be because it wouldn't make sense..
Daggers Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 What's wrong with the world mama? People living like aint got no mamas I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism But we still got terrorists here livin In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK But if you only have love for your own race Then you only leave space to discriminate And to discriminate only generates hate And if you hatin you're bound to get irate Yeah madness is what you demonstrate And that's exactly how anger works and operates You gotta have love just to set it straight Take control of your mind and meditate Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all People killing people dying Children hurtin you hear them crying Can you practice what you preach Would you turn the other cheek? Father Father Father help us Send some guidance from above Cause people got me got me questioning Where is the love?
Lillehamring Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 the real culprit here is modern culture - what turns 12 year olds into nasty violent thugs? everything kids today are surrounded by (movies, music, video games, newspapers) islittlered with violence, that's the culture that we live in, and the standard of modern parenting certainly doesn't help. you have to ask why 12 year olds are going round in gangs of 20. there's more to this than just 'string them up' - society has to address the problems of media responsibilty, parental responsiibilty (including discipline) and youth affairs. the discipline should take place before kids are allowed to feel like the can do anything, rather than let standards deteriorate to this level and then enforce discipline. this is sad not just for the victims, but also for the perpetrators and society in general.

Has it stopped or solved crimes like the one you highlight? No. No doubt you suggest harsher regimes but that has not worked so far. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is a form of madness. It just makes people feel better and that they are doing something. A very clever poster on this forum once said, and I paraphrase, that making more laws to tackle these issues was not the answer and that the first step was to change attitudes.
Geo V Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Britain is well on its way in following big brother America`s footsteps with all this crazy crime going on. Last week, the 19th youth was fatally killed in London alone this year and these taser guns are being handed to Police to help them in there jobs. They`ll all have proper guns soon and the kids will continue to be more and more stupid as there weed head lowlife parents allow them to do as they please. The country is going down the shatter fast and I want to move to a deserted Island If this topic had a bus, I`d be on the pessimistic one.
Webbo Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Unfortunately we live in a can't be arsed society. The parents of these little wankers can't be arsed to check out what they're doing, and if they did know they couldn't be arsed to stop them. These parents never discipline their children or say no to them because it's too much trouble. As long as they don't disturb them while they're watching telly they're not bothered. The police can't be bothered to intervene because they know that they will have to fill out dozens of forms only for some do gooder prosecutor or magistrate will throw out the case, or let them off with a slap on the wrist. Teachers and passers by turn a blind eye/walk away because if they intervene they are the ones who will be injured and probably prosecuted while the perpetrators laugh in their faces. These kids grow up in this broken society and have children, and as each generation passes by the parents become progressively more pathetic than their parents.

Thats exactly how I see it and thats why the next generation gives us even more reason to be concerned.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Terrible Terrible Terrible what a disgrace
Daggers Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Teachers .... turn a blind eye/walk away because if they intervene they are the ones who will be injured and probably prosecuted while the perpetrators laugh in their faces. Not sure what teachers have to do with intervening in incidents when kids are throwing stones at a bloke and his kid? My POV is that schools do a good job at trying to discipline kids and I've never known staff turn a blind eye to serious incidents. Yea for teachers!
Webbo Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Not sure what teachers have to do with intervening in incidents when kids are throwing stones at a bloke and his kid? I was talking about society in general. My POV is that schools do a good job at trying to discipline kids and I've never known staff turn a blind eye to serious incidents. Not at the schools my kids and other peoples kids go to. The usual response is to punish the victim because it's easier.
Finnegan Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 Disgraceful, i hope they get sent down for the rest f there life!Bring back the death penalty! Grow up, you silly little boy.
Daggers Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 The usual response is to punish the victim because it's easier. I guess you are referring to a particular incident concerned with your kids. Schools don't 'punish the victim' because it's easier - that's daft.

Makes me think there isn't much 'great' about britain at the minute
Webbo Posted 2 September 2007 Posted 2 September 2007 I guess you are referring to a particular incident concerned with your kids.Schools don't 'punish the victim' because it's easier - that's daft. Agreed. Not my kids in particular, just the general ethos at my kids primary school, admittedly it's not so bad now two of them are at Roundhill. If kids complained about being bullied they were told to shut up. If a kid is being picked on the victim is made to sit out of the way in a corner, while the bullies are allowed to get away with it. That's what I mean about punishing the victim. There were a lot of kids with special needs at my daughters' school. 1 girl had spinal cancer (or something like that) and a boy at that school kept kicking her in the back, she could of ending up in a wheel chair yet the school did nothing (effective ) to stop it. In the end the mother had to take the girl out of the school.

It certainly runs contrary to anything I witnessed during my time teaching. Every school I have known follows a bullying prevention program designed by the DFES based on the work of Kidscape. I reckon that more often than not it is down to an individual example of poor teaching...we have just had both our little ones go through a really pisspoor teacher in consecutive years. Anyhoo - none of this answers the problem of the rotten little scallywags in modern society. Cut their nuts off and cut the nuts off their parents - that'll learn 'em.
