Really enjoyable game tonight. We played some really nice football against a pretty decent side.

GK: Pentney 6 - Didn't really have much to do.

RB: Kaebi 8 - Did really well again. As i've said before, he loves to attack and defends because he has to. It did seem as though they've been working on his defensive play though. Showed a quality touch and drove forward time and again. The trouble is, he doesn't really show much interest in getting back! Leaving the right mid to cover in reluctantly at right back. He'd make an excellent wing back, but in a classic 4-4-2 i'd play him right mid. Cleared one off the line brilliantly in the first half, as with the keeper having charged out, the striker took it round him and looked certain to role it in to the empty net. Then, from nowhere, Kaebi came flying in a just managed to scramble it off the line. Brilliant!

CB: Magunda 7 - Did pretty well tonight. Up against John Hartson he was strong and held his own, managing to head clear on several occasions.

CB: Kenton 7 - Like Magunda he had a pretty good game aswell.

LB: Maybury 7 - Played well considering he's Alan Maybury. Overlapped on numerous occasions and swung some nice crosses in. Considering our troubles on the left side, let me just warn you, i wouldn't be suprised if Megson turned to him soon.

RM: Ferreira 6 - (off injured 40 mins tight hamstring) I don't want to burst anyones bubble here, but i'm not as excited about Marco as i am with Kaebi and Djaziri. Having seen him play for the reserves a couple of times, ok, he is better than the current shit on show, but he does look slow and a yard off the pace. He does have ability though, so i'd still like to see him in the first team. Hopefully the injury isn't a bad one.

CM: King 8 - The best i've seen him play at this level. Peppered the oppo goal in the first half with a few nice long range efforts. One beauty he took on his chest from 25yards, kneed the ball up, then volleyed it over a back tracking keeper just over the bar.

CM: Hellings 6 - He did pretty well, though seemed to go missing a bit at times. Of all the signings we've made this one is perhaps the mose bizarre. He's not a bad player, but realistically the only way he's going to get a game is if we have an injury crisis.

LM: Djeziri 8 - (Off injured 65mins, hip problem) .This lad has more natural ability and flair in his little finger than Sheehan and Porter have in their whole body put together. Just like last time he had all the extravagent trickery, but crucially this time, there was an end product to it all. Which was nice. Get this lad in the team on our left wing, because with his pace and trickery he's dangerous. What's great is he has the confidence to run at people unlike Porter. Was he actually injured? Or did he know he was playing well, so he'd rest himself for posible selection on wed? Perhaps he's not that clever!

CF: Hammond 6 - (off injured 10mins) oh what a shame, lol.

CF: Sappleton 9 - Brilliant display. I've seen him play a few times now for the reserves and in pre season and i've not been impressed. But tonight, and it was only a matter of time before this was said, he looked like a young Heskey! lol. Fisrt goal from the pen, second goal turned nicely in the box and tucked it away. Then set up the third with a brilliant take on the chest from a long ball, and lovely slide pass for Beswick to run on to and finish. Won header afer header, and held it up for fun. Carved out several other chances for himself brilliantly. More of this please Ricky!

Subs

Mckay (10 mins) 7 - He's such a busy player. Closes people down for fun.

Beswick (40 mins) 7 - Scored a lovely goal, and was also busy, played some nice link up.

Chambers (65mins) 6 - Bit quiet when he came on, but caused some trouble with his pace.

Really enjoyable game tonight. I'll just do a little player rating thing in a minute.

Agreed they did very well! Sappleton looked decent always a threat and bagged 2 goals 1 very good pen 1 curler from 12 yards. Djelzeri? he was skillful like a championship version of Christiano Ronaldo tonight very nice to watch but little production he went off injured after about 60 mins top of the thigh looked a strain. Kaebi did well without being spectacular. Ferreira went off injured but looked nothing serious. Billy McKay looks a real hand full although he did not score he was always a threat. Aaron Butcher scored the third of the game that was a good team goal created by Sappleton.

Thats about it They were not great but very enjoyable to see Leicester playing attacking football and looking comfortable at the back! Well worth £3 ;)

Not from what I saw tonight.

He is too raw for the championship. He was very confident but the opposition was poor tonight and he dominated smaller defenders, also his technique needs improving to even be at the level of De Vries who will offer more than Ricky. IMO Sappleton should be sent down to League 1 or 2 and get some games in a hard competitive league to get him more street wise in football terms.

Na na na na na na na na na na na Ricky Sappleton, Sapplton, Ricky Sappleton!

Ferreira did have a strain but to all those who think he should be in the first 11 think again! He is not fit to run for a half of reserve football so he needs some intensive aerobic training before we will see him in the championship. I actually wonder what he has been doing in Porto? He was no where near fit.

Djezeri has bags of skill but needs to be productive as he only did about 3 things right in his 60 minutes but he did look entertaining. Don't get excited but he looked like Ronaldo in the way that he did loads of trick but they came to nothing! Ronaldo was told to play to win not just show off Djezeri needs to get that into his head then he will be some player!

Did Kaebi get subed off early so he could play against Villa?

No :rolleyes::(

But he played very well. He did the simple things right and when he got forward he didn't mess about got the ball in and always drilled it in no fannying about :)

No, but he put in a very disciplined performance at right back, made some good forages forward but did not neglect his defensive obligations. Just about ready for a place on the first team bench.

Two goals by Riccy Sappleton and a third from substitute Ryan Beswick gave City Reserves a 3-0 win over WBA at Hinckley tonight in a game with enough chances to have finished 10 or 12-3.

Sappleton has looked an ungainly lad with an eye for goal in his short City career but tonight he led the line like a young man who loved his job.

City had suffered a blow when Elvis Hammond, making his return from a long-term ankle injury, sustained another foot injury after after only 10 minutes during which time he had one "goal" disallowed for offside and might well have netted again from a left-foot volley.

Billy McKay came on as his replacement and formed an excellent partnership with big Riccy.

However it was midfielder Andy King who's determined dribble gave City their breakthrough. King was fouled driving into the box for a penalty which Sappleton despatched with emphasis after some 35 minutes.

City might have scored half a dozen by this stage. Andy King, outstanding in midfield once more, put crosses onto first one back post then the other which Sappleton so nearly headed home.

King himself had a series of excellent efforts including brilliant tee up and volley from just outside the box which beat the keeper but just failed to drop quickly enough to find the net...mere inches from being a candidate for goal of the reserves season. He finished the half with a couple of outstanding long range efforts one of which brought an excellent save.

West Brom, with big men Hartson and Bednar leading their attack, did catch City's back line flat on occasions and a misplaced pass from McKay almost let them in for a goal but for a last ditch clearance from Kaebi who gave a masterful display all night.

Carl Pentney also produced two excellent saves, showing excellent reflexes to gather a close range header from Labadie and then making a timely block from a through ball.

Ryan Beswick replaced the injured Ferreira just before half-time but City's assault on the visitors goal continued unchecked. A terrific cross by McKay was smashed against a post but finally it was Alan Maybury who conjured up City's second goal with a fierce low cross into the box to Sappleton who checked and turned quickly to steer a low drive into the right corner.

He almost repeated the effort barely a minute later when McKay was the supplier but this time the ball just failed to curl enough to find the net.

Sappleton completed a terrific night when he controlled a long pass in central midfield, fed a first time pass to Beswick and the winger, playing in unfamiliar territory on the right, slotted the ball coolly in with his left foot making a far from easy chance look simplicity itself.

King almost supplied the final ball for a Sappleton hat-trick but the striker's fiery drive passed right across goal and narrowly wide.

There was another mishit by Sappleton before the move of the game so nearly produced a memorable last minute coup de grace. Ashley Chambers, second half replacement for Djeziri, fed Alan Maybury on the left and his inch-perfect first time cross found McKay unmarked at the far post for what should have been a picture book finish but, in the event, the header was glanced disappointingly wide.

As a spectacle the game was the ideal tonic for any City fan who'd witnessed the Chalrton debacle and individually there was so much to be encouraged about. Sappleton, improving with every game, had a day to be proud of, King, playing his second 90 minutes in three days totally controlled midfield and had so many shots it was easy to lose count.

Kaebi gave a much more disciplined display than previously yet still caused all sorts of trouble for the visiting defence and appropriately climaxed his night by flicking a final interception over an advancing attacker, catching it on the other side of his bewildered opponent and slipping a first time pass to a colleague who set city back on attack - a moment of sheer class.

Ferreira had clearly got the message about collective responsibility as well. He probed the WBA backline constantly until appearing to lose a bit of steam and then sustaining what seemed to be a hamstring injury which I am fairly certain will keep him out of contention for any of this week's first team matches.

Player ratings elsewhere.

A great informative report, but I've got to say...

You couldn't make it up!

lol
