Jonbluefox9 Posted 10 October 2007 Posted 10 October 2007 Yeah but there paying him wages all be it youth wages Wages for most 1st year scholars is something like £90 a week I think, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. There's another type of contract but I'm not sure how it works.

Yeah sounds about right so potentially it will be a good investment if we haven't spent much money on developing a potenial quallity player
Thracian Posted 11 October 2007 Posted 11 October 2007 I'd have liked to see him in the reserves last night. McKay could have done with some help. He didn't half miss the passes and movement of once regular strike partner Odhiambo who would also have shared the burden of closing defenders down. McKay seemed forced to spend far too much time doing that and too little being dangerous, which he unquestionably is given the right service.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 October 2007 Posted 11 October 2007 O'Grady's scored 7 in 22 for Rotherham and it doesn't surprise me one bit so get off his back. He was never given much of a chance as a striker here - simply asked by Contain-em Kelly to do a particular job. He was never going to oust Kelly's Chosen Men and was made a scapegoat really. I've not seen enough of Billy Kee to judge but I do know that there's always someone ready to be negative of any prospective Academy graduate. Yet Stearman, Wesolowski, Logan, Porter, Sheehan, Mattock, King and Odhiambo - eight players - have all made first team appearances and none has really let us down. Gradel and Dodds might easily have joined them. That is some record and some achievement whatever the cold water pourers might say. Kee will have his doubters whatever - and he's not ready yet. But he must be half decent to even get in our Academy team these days, never mind the reserves on occasions, and it will be interesting to see who hits the harder shot out of him and Sappleton. 7 in 22, in League Two. Well done Chris, why o why did we ever get rid of you.
The People's Hero Posted 11 October 2007 Posted 11 October 2007 7 in 22, in League Two.Well done Chris, why o why did we ever get rid of you. Wow, that's nearly 1 in 3 in a level 2 tiers below our own! Him and Louis Dodds have really shown us up! To cap it all off, I noticed that Lawrie Dudfield score the other week. We'd be in the premiership if we'd kept him!

The People's Hero Posted 11 October 2007 Posted 11 October 2007 Yeah and don't forget you get a free sycophantic, overly eager, loyal until you turn 21 or become popular with other fans, old man with that.

Apparently we created a shed load of chances yesterday? Didn't Sappleton help create any? Jeez you are amazing. Now lets link up the kid who has just started in the academy side instead of the joint scorer in the reserves? Thankfully we have the OS to give an unbiased report on the games and from my recollection RS has bagged 4 goals to McKays two and has set up a couple of goals. How comes he gets dropped for a kid who has played about 3 academy games?? Let me guess, he is a product of our academy and not someone elses??!!

Sappleton had a wretched first half and was subbed in the second. He made one chance which the keeper saved at McKay's feet. He made a goalline clearance and had a header from McKay's lobbed cross which went high over the bar. Even so, no-one mentioned dropping Sappleton. I said McKay missed the movement and the passing opportunities he got with Odhiambo. And I mentioned that he needed someone to help him race around closing people down. He must have covered miles last night on that errand, and against WBA last week.

It reminds me of you wanting to recall Gradel, rating Weso, Sheehan and King highly and have now changed your mind on Clemence who deserves a place in the side. I asked you then to name a side as I don't know where you planned to play them all and I`ll ask again. Would Kee play in a 3 with Sappleton and McKay? You cant keep making suggestions on playing people as you may not know this but you can only start ten outfield players.

Just because Megson favours a 5-3-2 system doesn't mean I would although I well understand why the gaffer wants to use the system with the reserves. There would be no problem playing Kee with Sappleton and McKay if I thought that was the best choice at the time.

Unfortunately the "the best choice at the time" always comes out when something goes wrong and then you post. You are critical of Sappleton taking penos after he missed one yesterday but forget that he was previously successful from the spot this season. When he scored you didn't come out and say you spotted a problem with his technique and we should make a change before he misses the next one did you?!

When he scored you didn't come out and say you spotted a problem with his technique and we should make a change before he misses the next one did you?! Matt Le Tissier would have told him that if he misses one he's got a problem. I've remarked on Sappleton's clumsy ball control before. And even commenting on the penalty I basically said that if he whacked em it would be one thing - he'd have a reasonable chance of scoring. But fannying about placing them is always going to be risky for someone with his technique. Even in general play he sometimes surprises you with a genuinely deft touch here or there and his chest control plus instant pass to set up a goal for Beswick recently was top drawer. But they are fleeting moments. Sometimes he even has a run of them. But it's a lottery and he'll as easily have a spell where the ball goes anywhere and everywhere. And my point is that if we want sliderule penalties, McKay is more suited. I'm not saying he'd never miss either. Just that he's got a far more accomplished passing technique.

I am yet to see Sappleton play and dont know how good his technique is but when it comes to penos, you dont always have to be the player with the best touch or skill to be the taker. One of the best penalty takers I ever saw was Ray Stewart at West Ham who had an amazing record of one miss or even no misses in about 40 kicks. He was a right-back. then you get the classy players who you would imagine to be accurate like David Beckham who has shown that he can shank them over too so its all hit and miss really. What I would say about Sappleton is at least he has the confidence to grab the ball and take it which surely counts for something?

I'm sure Thrac would be 1 of the 1st to say Sappleton is you and his technique will improve in time (how much is hard to say) but your arguing with him when you haven't even seen the lad play is stupid

I actually have said that I read what ALL posters have said about him who get down to the non-first team games and have said that its hit and miss. Ive also said that kids his age can go either way and be good or on the scrapheap. What I did object to regarding Thracians comments on Sappleton was his penalty taking. He scored one last week and nothing was said and as soon as he misses one he comes out and suggests that McKay should take them instead! Please read my posts in future instead of jumping in thinking that I am slating for the sake of it. I am far from saying Sappleton should be in teh first team, the comments were only about taking a peno.
Jimmy Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 come off it, if Thrac said the sky was blue, you's sware blind it was green, you pick any fault you can with his point of view and i'm fed up with every thread turning into a Goe V rant at thrac

Jimmy Posted 12 October 2007 Posted 12 October 2007 they are also all over the LCFC forum where he'll post then you'll pick it apart bit by bit for no reason, you even have a go at him in thread he hasn't even posted in yet

I suppose the likes of me, Thracian, TPH and others post more per day than most so will obviously clash swords with each other. I will admit to being at total opposite ends of the scale when it comes to certain opinions with him and that does seemingly come across but I have no vendetta in looking out for his posts to comment on them. Obviously it takes two to tango and I would usually respond to his post and viceversa. Its a simple clash of opinions and I suppose both think they are right on certain subjects. Nothing more and nothing less.

Loads of people will think and act differently due to anything and everything from age, background, nationality etc but as you see it only gets as far as heated but ultimately as a fellow Leicester fan, we want basically the same thing for our club.
