We're buying the league... we're Buying the League..... literally.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-01/palmer-initiates-independent-football-body/3863084

Billionaire Clive Palmer has announced he is starting an independent football body called Football Australia, aimed at holding Football Federation Australia (FFA) accountable for running the game.

Before the announcement, Palmer, who owned Gold Coast United before the FFA yesterday terminated its A-League licence, tweeted "Today I have launched Football Australia and we aim to replace incompetent FFA".

A media statement was also released saying "The FFA has lurched from one disaster to another and needs to be replaced".

But during a press conference in Brisbane, Palmer and Football Australia chief executive and former A-League boss Archie Fraser distanced the body from that statement as well as claims it would initiate a breakaway league.

Palmer said the idea behind Football Australia was to "monitor and ensure good governance" as well as grow the game whilst comparing the proposed think tank to FFA chairman Frank Lowy's initiative the Lowy Institute for International Policy.

"What does Football Australia plan to do? It plans to publish papers, hold press conferences, seek opinions, lobby the government, lobby the FFA for a better outcomes for a better outcome for Australians and the game in Australia," Palmer told the press conference.

"It's much like the Lowy institute to the broader economy, where Frank Lowy's done a great job to make people and politicians accountable for public policy."

"Football Australia is an idea to get ideas about what should happen in football," he added.

"It's an organisation that should always be there to help the game."

Palmer also announced he would be seeking a court injunction on Friday to allow his Gold Coast team to play its last four matches of the season under its current structure.

As the FFA was in talks with Gold Coast players about completing the season under its control following Wednesday's decision to revoke the club licence, Palmer said he would seek an injunction because he had been offered no right of appeal.

"Tomorrow in the Supreme Court of Queensland, we'll be seeking an injunction which foreshadows a legal action which the club will be taking against the FFA and against its members in relation to their illegal ... activity which is against the constitution of this country," Palmer told the press conference on Thursday.

Palmer said he believed FFA had "breached natural justice" and also indicated he had the support of A-League club Newcastle, claiming Hunter Sports Group chief executive Troy Palmer would file an affidavit supporting his bid to see out the season with the club.

Palmer also repeated claims made on ABC's AM this morning that Lowy had approached him about winding up Gold Coast United and making a $5 million investment to set up a team in western Sydney.

We Kick Harder

Football Australia's slogan was revealed as "We Kick Harder."

Palmer himself is just a member of Football Australia and not a director like Gold Coast United chief executive Clive Mensik.

Palmer said his organisation had already been registered with the Australian Investment and Securities Commission.

Fraser added the fact the name Football Australia could be registered in the last 24 hours was indicative of the mess the game in Australia was in.

Fraser also said Football Australia would provide a much-needed voice for A-League club owners.

Im trying to find out if anyone....

A) Knows if the Casino or anywhere in Perth is showing the game

B) If anyone wants to catch up to watch it

I think its a 22.05 Kick off, so not a particularly bad time.

Oh and if you cant make it... you are clearly "Plastic" ;)

Attention All Melbourne based foxes: The Chelski game will be shown live at 1am only on Setanta unfortunaetly. If you are thinking of going to a pub to watch it most people will be heading to the Charles Dickens on Bourke St.

Ah the good old Dickens

what's going on with your lot then? That's the worst MV side I've seen play at SFS. They made Sydney look decent.

No defence and no creativity in midfeild. Milligan is a one man bad trying to keep the defence and mids together. Kewell and Archie get no service, i was just glad i was too pissed to care.
