Master Fox Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 One radical step to think about - if the Government saw fit to ban smoking from public places, should obese people be banned from fast food chains? Is that a part of the answer? Is that too ridiculous? Not necessarily, I think, but I am not wanting to post my opinions just yet. Discuss.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 This is good, the governmant can attack fat gits. That should mean it's at least 5 or 6 years before they come after us alcholics. Fooking hope my goverment doesn't
Rincewind Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Why? Do they drag people in off of the streets and force quarter pounders down the mouths of poor civilians? No they don't. Lisa my tongue was halfway in my cheek. I also said that people neede to walk more instead of using their cars for short jouneys. I agree that it up to the individual but there are more fast food places opening than health food places. A big billboard showing a lettuce leaf and a carton of yoghart is not going to look as attractive as a big Mac with fries and coke at a special offer. I also agree parents should take more responsibilty to their kids diet but in the modern world where mothers work 9-5 this is hard to get across.
Raj Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 But where is the motivation? You, and many others, don't need the motivation. Obese people will walk half a mile, get really knackered, say "sod this" and go eat something. People likethat might need encouragement to exercise. Where do they get it? How about an Ak47 to the head. And then shouts of "Run Fatty Run or your head gets blown off" I'd run like fcuk!

Raj Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Or die of a heart attack Oh yeah...didnt think of that....still one less fatty about innit????
Kent Fox Posted 17 October 2007 Author Posted 17 October 2007 I know, I know But if you take it at face value - smoking was banned by the Governement not only for the effect smoke has on everyone, but in an attempt to force people into quitting. I seem to remember that being said at the time. Was it a third of smokers they were hoping would quit?? The point about obese people is, whilst they do not harm other people with their weight, they will be a bigger drain on an ailing NHS than smokers currently are. This will ultimately affect us all. So, if costs are an issue, halting / reducing obesity is a Governmental priority, is it not? The Government want to look after us all, so they banned smoking in public places. If they want to look after obese people, what can they do? Surely not nothing...
Rincewind Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Too much excercise can be harmful. The bloke that started of jogging died of an heart attack (Ithink) as did Bruce Lee. Others also have died from putting too much pressure on their heart. If you got all the obese people to run hal a marafan (as opposed to eating one) only a few would finish the rest having gave up or taking to the local hospital. Well thats my excuse.

Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 At 7am I was in the gym today and the session that included beating up a punchbag lasted for 2 hours. After reading this thread I am all of a sudden hungry and am about to order a takeaway. Minimum order is £7.50 at this place so I will have to top up to get value for my money as I am too lazy to walk to the shop to pick it up even though its only a few hundred yards away. I hope you are all happy you barstewards.

Rincewind Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 All that needs to be done is to up the required weight to be regarded as obese. Then overnight millions of people will become underweight.
Geo V Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Fat bastard! I didnt realize how early it still was (Ive been up since 6) and the local takeaway isnt even answering there phones yet! I`ll have to drive down to the local Gregg the bakers instead.
Zingari Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 All that needs to be done is to up the required weight to be regarded as obese. Then overnight millions of people will become underweight. good point its all the skinnies that are the problem , if they got fatter then obesity would be the norm
Raj Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 i blame the modern day blame culture To be serious(which i always am!) thats actually true. We all need an excuse to blame someone about something. Im not tall enough,i blame my Dad. And I've got an itchy groin area. I blame it on that 'lady of the night' in Highfield i didn't go to see. See....blame somebody for anything nowadays. Its never the individuals fault is it?
Manwell Pablo Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 To the point, Mablo Which part, exactly, is bollocks, utter..? Surely not all of it... I sit in a office all day. I get to work each day in a car. I use the odd labour saving device and even eat cheap fast food once in awhile. Yet somehow I manager to remain in the bracket for the right weight for my height, only just admittidly. I manage this as I relise that I need to excerise and eat well most of the time. If I got fat because I never exercise and eat shit, I'd probabley hold my hands up and admit thats my fault.
Kent Fox Posted 17 October 2007 Author Posted 17 October 2007 no-one is to "blame" , it is just another health "problem" that is facing society and the individual as a result of modern lifestyle, and the problem can only be solved by a combination of efforts by both society and the individual . i blame the modern day blame culture Make your mind up!! Schools are clearly acknowledging the problem. Well, my daughters school is. Their new winter menu is very good. Is this still a knock-on from Jamie Oliver's tirade on kid's food, or the Government intervening? Or a bit of both? Either way, surely this is one step towards combatting obesity. Is the rest down to parents? Or should the Government go further?
BigGibbo Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Oh yeah...didnt think of that....still one less fatty about innit???? I didn't realise you despised us fattys so much
Milky Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 I hate fat people. Why do they punish themselves like that. The rest of us take some punishment aswell as a result. The facts are you should eat less shit and do more exercise. Forget all the mumbo jumbo and jargon. You don't see any fat Ethiopians.
Raj Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 I didn't realise you despised us fattys so much I am a fatty too!!!! Gives her indoors something to hold onto!!!
BigGibbo Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 When it comes to kids, the parents are to blame. Lazy parents are too busy to care these days and stuff their kids with all sorts and help them to develop bad habits which become difficult to kick in later life. Obviously the Xbox culture as Harry Redknapp of all people called it the other day is harming kids. The best way to combat obesity with kids is to bring back the National service. I'm not joking BTW! It still happens in Cyprus and the kids out there go training for a couple of years but come back at weekends. They develop good habits and you don't have fat kids coming out of the army. National Service also helps young lads become men and not the little shites that walk around happy slapping people and mugging old women that we see on the news over here every day. As for the adults, gyms are too expensive and not as accessible as they should be. There should be a huge national push by the government to fill local church halls and clubs with free classes from circuit training to Pilates classes. That would then help the gyms bring down there prices as in some cases they ask silly money and people just cant afford it. I would target unemployed people too as I know some people who are out of work who get depressed and end up eating and then haven't got the confidence or the right mindset to look for work. If they had free gym membership or access to training classes I'm sure they would be more likely to be in the right frame of mind to get a job. I agree 100% with mandatary national service when you leave school as long as there are laws in place to stop the government using the kids on their oil gathering trips to iraq iran etc

But do you not go for a run occassionally? If so, great!! But you are not obese, obviously. Is it not the obese parents that need to be 'educated'? I think what is interesting so far, is that most people are edging towards the fact it is the parents fault. Fat breeds fat and so on. If that is the case, how do we stop obesity becoming the problem that it is forecast to be? Not just you, Mablo - anyone?
BigGibbo Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 It always amuses me that the word fat is most commonly followed by one of bastard twat git etc but never thin
