As somebody said fast food is cheap and easily gotten hold of. Look at the price of veggies saugages compared to 2 for one at Tescos. Would a parent on a low income opt for the higher priced option? Items with lower calories and no sugar added cost more. Why if they contain less? I find that things with less calories are smaller portions. Food manufacturers make health foods as a side-line so do not care about how they price them as they make their money off the mass-produced stuff which they lower the price to attrat more customers. They gear their selling tecnique to public demand so if the public want obese they give it to them big style.

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive:

1 chicken breast £1.50 ish

Broccoli - £0.35 for 200g

Cauliflower - £0.78 per cauli

Baked potato - £0.26 for a 200g spud

Gravy - £0.79 per tub

Total meal price - £3.68

That's your meat & 2 veg plus a spud & some flavour for you if veges are a bit dull on their own

How much is a Big Mac meal nowadays?

And Tesco will even deliver your weekly shopping for you if you're too lazy to go and get it

All skinny people can put on weight though. Take on more energy than you use up. Basic stuff.

Oh so simple aye Milky ;)

So you're saying you like him, but you want him to die extremely early because of his size? Interesting.

I think the word we're looking for is 'False Economy' - something I was taught back at Uni, i.e. unsustainable

Obese yes morbidly!

I am very far from content how i am!

I try to do everything i can i do as much active work as my leg can take (due to accident its alot less than normal).

I don't eat as much as i'd like apart from the odd occasion when i give up & start feeling sorry for myself like a tw@t but i snap out of it quickly.

I refuse to put blame to anyone as thats a big sign of weakness but it is simple fact that alot more than nothing could of been done for me at certain points by certain people. Also the accident was 100% out of my control!

I live on my own & have very little contact with my Mum my Dad lives in skeggy & works all round the country so only phone contact & help with money from him, & because as a result of the accident & the company im taking for all its worth sacking me on the sick, I ended up losing my flat in my hometown & having to move away from my friends.

Although its only a few miles being in my current position & also not being able to drive means i rarely see them!

Last but not least my doctors have not ever helped me but have fobbed me off & insulted me too many times so i won't go back.

So all these factors don't help but at least it means with no help from anyone all the blame & plaudits of whatever i do are entirely with me

That is a sad story, mate.

Gibbo, in your case, your morbid obesity ( :D ) is not necessarily the same obesity that is causing the concern. Yours is due, partly or otherwise, to an accident. I think that the main concern is over the people that just eat badly and do not exercise.

There we go again, and it clearly highlights the problem. How many time have we seen "not easy" or "not simple".

Yes, your body can be built so that weight loss (or weight gain) is not easy. Not easy, but NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

It does require, and dare i say it, some actual HARD WORK!!. That's the problem with human beings, as a race we take the easy options, and try and do as little work as possible. Work shy.

As a quick aside that I don't want to dwell on here.. many, not all but many consultants at BUPA are from the NHS. Fact. I am sure you have your reasons for distrust and i don't want to know them. I just thought I'd dispel that myth.

Good luck with the future, pal.

The thing with seeing these same consultants through BUPA (or privately generally) though, is that generally you actually get to speak to your consultant properly, which is a great confidence giver. Also, you are much much much more likely to see the consultant themselves than their registrar. One of the main problems with the NHS in my view is that the first thing to go when everyone is under so much time pressure is the common courtesy which is so important from a patients perspective.

Yeah ive always had a problem with it but the very big straw that broke the camels back shall i say lol was the accident!

At school it was weird because i was always playing football (was in the team) & love sports played everything was good at cricket & me & my best mates had the same healthy appetite but i put on weight & they didn't :dunno:

Shit happens i suppose but the last 3rd of my weight was put on because of the accident & the effects of it "Fact" just to clear that up lol:D

I hate fat people. Why do they punish themselves like that. The rest of us take some punishment aswell as a result.

The facts are you should eat less shit and do more exercise. Forget all the mumbo jumbo and jargon. You don't see any fat Ethiopians.

That's a bit harsh. I quite like fat people actually.

I have fat friends, a bit similar to the 'I have loads of black friends' when being accused of racism.

It's their bloody choice to get fat so let them be fat!! I'm not sure it's about an image thing but I know couple of fat guys with a bit of cash who get loads of top muff!! A lot people are on the go busy working to support their family, mortgages etc, which can sometimes be hard to find time to exercise or cook a nutritious meal when you have other important commitments to make.

Somehow people instantly think ‘fat person’ must be a layabout does nothing but eat and sit on their arse watching daytime tv while claiming benefits. 9 times out 10 that’s not the case.

So basically you can’t do anything these days without some **** government official or tabloid newspaper telling you’re a terrible person for doing so.

Up the Obesity!!!

Fundamentally its all about you though mate. If you are uncomfortable then its down to you to do something about it as doctors and the other muppets wont help.

I can remember being down when I broke the ankle for the first time but kept my job as a manager at some small furniture store and I was sitting there eating all day lol. I actually couldn't wait to train again and if you could manage to get to the gym and maybe ask for advice from the usually idiotic staff that work there lol you may find certain machines that you can do to even help improve your injury.

Hate is too strong. Frustrated at what they do to themselves is more accurate.

Well it turns out i might be slightly overweight.

Looks like me and you Milky are going to have problems.

We may all look fat but with all that weight behind us we cause some damage, know what saying…uh?

I don't disagree, Lisa, but it is possible that some people may believe a Big Mac is good for them. You only have to read McD's own propaganda to realise that. It could be that people really just do not understand anymore what is and isn't healthy.

You say it is about attitude - so are you agreeing it is the culture of modern society that is to blame?

But where is the motivation? You, and many others, don't need the motivation. Obese people will walk half a mile, get really knackered, say "sod this" and go eat something. People likethat might need encouragement to exercise. Where do they get it?

I don't read any of the fast food giant's propaganda, so cannot comment on it, but common sense would dictate that a Big Mac v healthy sandwich would produce one clear winner in the health debate.

I am not agreeing that modern society is to blame about the attitude purely because I am being pedantic and looking at things from a different angle to you. The way that I see it is that "we" have created modern society out of our own attitudes. I would say that it is the people that make up the society are to blame for it.

As for motivation, if you can't do it for yourself and for the sake of your own well being, then I pity you (not you personally, those who give up, I mean). You think I have it easy, but I can assure you that I don't. I have an underlying medical condition which means that I am susceptible to injury, which has lead to me permanently damaging my knee. I am a chronic asthmatic, and it's the "sport-induced" variety. I could very easily say to myself "it's not worth the risk....", but ironically exercise helps with both conditions. So this is probably why I don't accept any excuses when it comes to this issue.

Lisa my tongue was halfway in my cheek. :D

I have absolutely no wish to know where your tongue is!

I am a fatty too!!!!

Gives her indoors something to hold onto!!! :D

If you're fat, what does that make me?

It always amuses me that the word fat is most commonly followed by one of bastard twat git etc but never thin lol:dunno:

You're not female lol "Skinny bitch" is quite common!

Well it says something about our society when mothers take their kids to McDonalds as a reward for eating all their greens. :D

You may jest, but at my gym, mothers make their kids exercise, then reward them with crisps and chocolates (in the changing rooms, scummy cows) or with plates of chips in the bar.
