Koke Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 We are not good enough to play an attacking game against Chelsea. They'll destroy us and kick us into submission. If we play defensivly Megson style, then maybe (0.0001%) we can battle out a 0-0 score and take them to penalties. And then we have Marton Fulop . If we play a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 like Man City, then we really are asking for trouble.
Thracian Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Attacking Chelsea will be folly. Even I wouldn't do it as a specific policy. Megson mode is the only hope we have in this one. You simply couldn't attack against such an obviously superior side and have enough defensive nouse to avoid being slaughtered on the counter attack. Our best policy is to be organised defensively, to contest everything and to try to have enough aerial clout in the side to make something happen from any free-kicks or corners we can muster. All Chelsea's millions won't make it easier for them to defend a wickedly curling Sheehan free kick if Kissa, McAuley, N'Gotty and perhaps Cort are homing in on the danger zone. Frustrate them and catch em getting over confident. That's the way I'd be thinking.

And with Sheehan's ability to deliver the ball and make it land on a 50p coin from 60 yards, then anything is possible.

Mikey Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Whatever the team is, although others might disagree. I think we should put Ashley Chambers on the bench. From what I've heard the he produced good performance after good performance and is constantly scoring goals. People might say, 'Don't rush him into the first team' but if we weren't meant to rush him into first team, he would not have played against Blackpool at the age of 16. If he didn't have his injuries I for one would think that he would almost definitely be in our first team. Put him in.
Koke Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Put him in. Theo Walcott proved that you can still play against men at the age of 16. Not saying he's a Walcott but if he's good enough, then he's good enough.

Not saying he's a Walcott but if he's good enough, then he's good enough. I couldn't see any harm at all in putting Ashley on the bench. He's had a consistent run of form, is something of an unknown quantity and his speed and shooting ability might produce a surprise if we need one. Our team badly needs some pace anyway. No reason using Ashley should have less chance of working than anything else. It would also be a morale booster for him and reward for his performances this season since recovering from serious injury.
ronnup Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 All htis talk of "we must play attacking football". Our team can't do it I don't think. It requires a mid field otherwise people are just calling for a long ball game. We have no mid-field, and won't have on wednesday. So we will hump it to Alex and his band of world class mercenaries to slowly walk it past a puzzled Newton and a silly Chambers into our area, and then test Fullop for 90 minutes. I envisage nothing but an extra million quid on Marton's asking price unfortunately. He'll look prem class, the rest will get taken to school.
Mr Happy Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 To be honest the 5-3-2/3-5-2 formation we've got now suits this game perfectly for us. It's more than likely going to be 5-3-2 for the majority of the game and Chelsea may struggle to break us down that way. But this formation is quite flexible and does allow for attacking football. It just depends what team Chelsea put out for me. Chances are they'll play a "reserve" side and we might just have a chance. We should be hoping that due to champions league, league & carling cups and the premiership campaign that chelski DO field a strongish team cuz hopefully they'll all be knackered due to the amount of games they'll be playing Re: Aston Villa tactics Yes, yes and yes!! The 5-3-2 formation will get us through the game and into penalties IMO we have every chance of winning this game all we have to do is use the tactics as Villa/Barnsley game P.S. Why does everybody keep asking to see Ferriera play, theres obviously a reason why hes not playing thus far, either hes injured or just cack!

Good on you brother. If we were going over the top at the Somme i'd want a man like you next to me. "It's only a few bloody lumps of lead moving quickly, nonsense. We'll be home for tea"

Apart from that and Chambers (I'm expecting to see Stearman <_<) I think that'll be the team.
crisp monster Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 get the game over a done with and start to plan for Saturday and then Tuesday these are more important games and the last thing we need is for more injurys and yellow or red cards hope all that go have a good evening and the boys give you something to be proud of but i dont think we need to start dreaming of 1/4 finals just yet

FilboFox Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Hmm... you mean attack like Man City did against Chelsea?!? I'd rather defend loads and scrape a 1-0 win against them like we did against Villa!

If you use the argument that Chelsea will rape our defence, taking a defender out of the equation isn't sensible IMO.

Dames Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 I just hope we don't get steamrollered. If we win all the Chelsea fans at college won't hear the end of it.
jimthemofo Posted 29 October 2007 Posted 29 October 2007 i have faith in the miracles performed by leicester, thats why im coming down to see the match from manchester. there's only one true blue army, and in this situation the underdogs are always a keen one for doing the upset. i think we'll play strong attacking football on counters, and try to get as many corners, and free kicks in good positions as possible - we always seem to score from these situations (pretty much all the time)
maddog Posted 29 October 2007 Author Posted 29 October 2007 Im just praying that we can still be in the game at half time. I dread to think how il be feeling if we are 3-0 down at half time noing ive got the journey home. If we can have them 0-0 at half time ill be happy no matter what the final result is
Sods Posted 29 October 2007 Posted 29 October 2007 One player that could change the game is sheehan. Get as many free kicks as possible. Hit it or hit kisnorbos head. Come on City
