maddog Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 I don't think our 8 defenders on the pitch tactic will work against Chelsea. For a start none of our defenders have any pace (apart from Kaebi who will never play), so all we will be doing is inviting Chelsea onto us. Chelsea thrashed Man City 6-0 and if you watch them they pile their players forward, all pacy and making forward runs and i don't even think our 8 defenders will cope. If Kalou, Malouda, Essien, Mikel, Pizzaro, Shevchenko (i rekon they will be playing) are running at our solid but slow defence (N Gotty ) then we are gonna get batterd. Our only chance is to try to attack, at least play 4-4-2. Obviously Chelsea will be putting out a weak side and hopefully Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech won't be playing. Hopefully Fulop will have the best performance of his life, make 10 amazing saves and we won't concede. My team would be this: Fulop Mattock Kisnorbo N Gotty Chambers Ferraira Wesolowski Hume Kaebi John Campbell Subs: Fryatt, Porter, Henderson, Newton, Mcauely Of course it's more likely to be this: Fulop Sheehan N Gotty Mc auely Kisnorbo Stearman Chambers Newton Wesolowski Fryatt John Subs: Cort, Henderson, Porter, Campbell, Kenton Gerry Taggarts Blue army!

Injured. Slow. Behave. If your going to attack against Chelsea you need to do it with pace. Although i would love to see Ferreira involved somehow in a match somewhere i wouldn't pick Chelsea! I agree about not playing 8 defenders though your right, its inviting pressure. We need to take the game to them and sneak a goal. Then rely on Fulop
Webbo Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Man City took the game to Chelsea yesterday and looked what happened to them(PS Man City are a better team than us). 9 defenders behind the ball and 1 up front will do very nicely for me thank you.

True. But inviting pressure from some of the best players in the country? Not the greatest of plans IMO
l444ry Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 True. But inviting pressure from some of the best players in the country? Not the greatest of plans IMO Surely it's not inviting pressure by playing "8" defenders. As Chelsea would murder City in an open game it's common sense to have players in the side better suited to how this game will inevitably pan out.

But Leicester may score a couple of goals if we attack them. Fulop will save everything so we will win 2-0 surely

Joe. Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 I think a 9-0-1 formation would do the job. We'd grab a draw and embarass them on penalties
Tevez Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Defending against Chelsea is going to be to there advantage. It's like when we play 6-a-side, every team in our league who plays top of the league always put 5 behind the ball, not good. Just invites them to have numerous chances at 9 times out of 10, it's gonna go in.
Nod.E Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 I think a 9-0-1 formation would do the job. We'd grab a draw and embarass them on penalties Personally i think we should park the team bus on the goal line.
Joe. Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 To be honest the 5-3-2/3-5-2 formation we've got now suits this game perfectly for us. It's more than likely going to be 5-3-2 for the majority of the game and Chelsea may struggle to break us down that way. But this formation is quite flexible and does allow for attacking football. It just depends what team Chelsea put out for me. Chances are they'll play a "reserve" side and we might just have a chance.

The lads return home with a few pats on the back. Feeling encouraged by their show they go on a nice little run, new manager is appointed with optimism for the season on a high. However, he picks some crap players, we lose 5 on the trot and its back to square one. Alternative ending: We pick up some more wins and make it safely into the play offs!!
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 But Leicester may score a couple of goals if we attack them. Fulop will save everything so we will win 2-0 surely You have to get the ball first!?!?
maddog Posted 28 October 2007 Author Posted 28 October 2007 Hammond instead of John then. Hammond hat trick Leicester win 3-2

Monk Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 John is cup tied. And injured I'm guessing. Didnt look too jolly when he went off injured
Pete_foxes Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Just remember though, if we attack & we've got 8/9 players in the box Chelsea have the quality to counter attack go up the other end & score & if we leave ourselves short at the back then its only going one way. Basically what we need to do is make sure we are covered at the back at all time as I think Chelsea might go 4-3-3 to try and get a convincing win. We should probably be sensible & opt for a 5-3-2 with a triangle midfield with probably Hume playing attacking mid & two midfielders in behind. 2 up top John & Fryatt I'd go for. 5 in defense with two wing backs who will push forward whenever possible. N'gotty to man mark Drogba because of his strength & experience. There you go, that'd be what I'd do.. also if Terry isnt playing then you've always got a chance against them, indesisivness at the back whenever Terry is absent.
Brainy Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 I don't think our 8 defenders on the pitch tactic will work against Chelsea. You do realise Megson has left, don't you
Bert Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 Im Feeling - Fulop Kaebi Sheehan McAuley Kisnorbo N'Gotty Weso Hellings/Stearman Hume Fryatt DJ It won't be that, but that's the team i'd like to see.
Collymore Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 FULLOP CHAMBERS STEARMAN KISNORBO MATTOCK CLEMENCE WESOLOWSKI HUME FRYATT DJ CAMBELL CARL CORT Not 100% sure of our injuries at the moment but I would like to see something different wednesday night. If we play the kind of formation that we played against S****horpe then we will lose 2-0 and not have a shot on goal. I've gone for a pacey defence which I think will be key. I could see McAuley getting skinned alive out there. Weso and Clemence doing the dirty work in a deep midfield.. Next comes my magic attack. We've got Hume playing anywhere he wants leaving chelsea guessing. Fryatt is lurking just behind the front using his football brain to thread some passes through to the front two. Lets mix it up, I'm sure Cort can take a few high balls pumped up to him.

Agreed, not many teams play attackively at Chelsea and yesterday we were shown why.
Manwell Pablo Posted 28 October 2007 Posted 28 October 2007 It matters now what we do I'm afraid. We're going to get turned over. And this isn't one of those Villa "we're going to get turned over, but inside I have a sneaky feeling we can do something" comments, we're going to get beat. End of
