Vacamion Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Just for you...... Gordon Strachen has joined the running for the Managers post at the Walkers Stadium now that it appears his time is running out at Celtic. Strachen is being touted as the next Foxes chief due to the strong connections between the Glasgow outfit and the Midlands club. Should Strachen be the next man at the Walkers he will lure Neil Lennon in as his assistant and make Midfield star Paul Telfer his first signing. Strachen has previously managed in the Midlands with Coventry City and is believed to still have close connections in the area. Strachen would fit the bill for the Foxes post if sacked Celtic as the club would not require a compensation package. Interestingly former Leicester Manager Craig Levein has been lined up to replace Strachen at Celtic Park after rebuilding his career at Dundee United. Levein had a torrid time at the Walkers and was sacked after a disappointing run in the Championship left Leicester dangerously close to relegation to League 1. He was replaced by Rob Kelly who also failed to make the Foxes Promotion candidates during his spell with the club. See Bill, I'm after your Job sunshine!!!!! (*To all other Posters... Pls note that this is not a True Story.... However, if it actually happens you heard it here first!!!) Genius, but at least "Hans Christian" Anderson would have spelled Strachan's name correctly !
Fat Ron Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Genius, but at least "Hans Christian" Anderson would have spelled Strachan's name correctly ! What can I say.. A schoolboy error indeed.
Thracian Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Trio in talks with Cityby Bill Anderson Joe Royle, Peter Reid and Graeme Souness have been interviewed for the Leicester City manager's job. All three are currently out of football having left their previous clubs Ipswich, Coventry and Newcastle respectively. Reid, 51, Souness, 54, and Royle, 58, are among the most experienced managers in the game. City chairman Milan Mandaric is set to move on a new boss this week because he does not want to write off promotion hopes this season. The 1-1 draw at Colchester on Saturday means City are hovering just below the halfway point in the Championship table with a game in hand. Mandaric is not losing sight of his target of City being around the play-offs, despite the traumatic events of the season with two managers leaving. Before Saturday's game at Colchester, the City chairman hinted that, if the caretaker team of Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart continued to steady the ship and pick up some wins, it would buy him time regarding the new manager. But he was clearly disappointed that another lead slipped away at Layer Road in a game that was there for the taking. That brought a return of Mandaric's impatience and concern that the season could be wasted. And he is now unlikely to let things ride much longer. Mandaric held interviews last week with Royle, Souness and Reid. They were all linked with the job through speculation, as were current bosses Iain Dowie, of Coventry, and Plymouth's Iain Holloway. But Mandaric said: “At this moment, there is no one guy who I favour. “But right now the table is wide open and I am not giving up on my ambition to be involved in the promotion challenge. I was disappointed with Saturday's game because I thought we should have won it, and that would have taken us closer to where I want us to be. I don't want to lose many more points.” Considering what the squad have been going through - injuries as well as managerial changes - the last two league games have yielded four points, a fairly healthy return. Indeed, Burrows said after the Colchester game: “If you had asked me last Friday (before the Barnsley win) about the week ahead and the week we had just had, with the manager going, I would have settled for four points. But we matched them and might have nicked it.” *Midfielder James Wesolowski and striker Iain Hume both look doubtful for tomorrow's trip to Preston. Out of those three Joe Royle - no contest to be honest. Let's have an attacking manager JUST FOR ONCE. We've had a shed load of the other sort recently and both our football and our achievements have been shit. And I'd rather have Burrows/Taggart than the other two.
Ultra Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Usually true facts thou! Yeah, right... Just like when he said there was "no rift" between Mandaric and Allen... And when he said that Megson had "no interest" in the Bolton job as he was staying with us... His track record is not exactly flawless. I wouldn't be surprised if someone outside this trio ends up getting the gig!
step Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 WHAT ABOUT PAUL JEWELL ?????????????? Someone please tell me he is still in contention for the job. PLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSe

sdb Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 WHAT ABOUT PAUL JEWELL ??????????????Someone please tell me he is still in contention for the job. PLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSe we can all hope but i just can't see it happening
sdb Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 I wonder if MM has ever heard of Simon Grayson. That's a serious question. He has to be considered even if he's not appointed/interested.
Blue Bob Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 On SSN that Souness is currently in Wigan and the bookies have suspended bets on Souness taking over at Wigan - so it doesnt look like he is coming our way. I cant say I am that impressed with the three dinosaurs mentioned in The Mercury - lets just hope the 3 in jobs are better candidates.
Simi Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Joe Royle out of those three. Although it really does look like two now with Souness off to Wigan. What happened to the other 3 that were supposedly still in jobs? I take it Mandy is keeping these quiet for the time being...
hairy Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 From the Beeb Leicester close in on new manager Leicester have interviewed Joe Royle, Peter Reid and Graeme Souness for the manager's job and the appointment could be made by Saturday. BBC Sport understands chairman Milan Mandaric is keen to put the new man in charge before this weekend's visit to Preston to resurrect their season. The Foxes lost a lead and dropped two points at Colchester on Saturday, which left them 14th in the Championship. And that may be the end for caretaker bosses Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart. The pair have been in temporary charge since Martin Allen left the club in August - just three months into his contract after joining from MK Dons. Gary Megson was then appointed but stayed just six weeks before taking over as manager of Bolton Wanderers. None of the three candidates to take over are currently in managerial positions. Royle's last job was at Ipswich and ended in May 2006, while Souness' reign as Newcastle manager finished in February 2006 and Reid left Coventry in January 2005. Neil Warnock had been linked with the Leicester post but he was recently installed as Crystal Palace boss, while former Wigan manager Paul Jewell is another who is believed to have been considered by Madaric. Such poor reporting it is amazing.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Well it looks like Souey is off to Wigan, and between Royal and Reid, I think there is little contest.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 If it's Reid I am putting my season ticket on eBay. I could do with an extra tenner or so. If it's Royle then I'm going to ditch all the cynicism and negativity and throw myself into it 100%. Big decision Milan.
Fat Ron Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 From the BeebSuch poor reporting it is amazing. I could create a better report only using Footballrumo... not wait.... Ive done that already..

If its Reid, I'll give you £8 for your season ticket... Never been to the Zoo before and would love to see a Chimp in a suit..
Toby or not Toby Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Don't think Joe Royal would be that bad, but Peter Reid would be as bad as Megson
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 If its Reid, I'll give you £8 for your season ticket... Never been to the Zoo before and would love to see a Chimp in a suit.. Olé!
maddog Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007  I dont want either of them. Would much prefer Burrows with Taggs as assistant. At least if it's a loser like Reid he will be gone in a few weeks. I would even prefer Walsh to them
