blue blood Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I have been monitoring the post match rate the players thresds all season.....what do people user as a marker to mark the players against? I see a lot of 7's 8's and even 9's. Now is this a mark that only applies to leicester players or is it a mark that is based on a model that can be replicated by any fan in any league? for exxample would a 7 out of 10 for kisnorbo be the same as a 7 out of 10 for tevez? please clarify...
Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Personally I take 6 points as an average game for any of our players in that position and against that standard of opposition. If the individual plays better or worse than average he's marked accordingly. You'd allow a little for the standard of opposition and players would most notably get higher or lower marks according to the effect they had or any specific mistakes they made which might have cost goals or potentially cost them. For instance a goal would normally assure a player half or even one point more than average perhaps depending on the importance of the gaol and an asist similarly. At the other end a penalty conceded, a missed pass which leads to a goal or strike on goal by the opposition, a blunder by the goalkeeper etc would all lower a rating. Defenders would benefit if the team kept a clean sheeet or severely restricted the opposition's shots on goal and would get a bonus for vital interceptions, tackles, accepting additional workload, neutralising particular players etc. In midfield it is all about involvement, retaining possesion and making things happen. Giving the ball away is always bad to me but especially so in midfield but there is a difference between the buck-passing midfielder who plays everything 10-yards sideways and the guy who doesn't just do that when necessary but also spots runs, delivers telling passes and then has the determination to offer further support. Midfielders also impress by getting far enough forward to have shots or to get in the box and require attention. Another way to boost their score is to be "available" for defenders and attackers - an art that requires early anticipation and the confidence to demand the ball.

There's no logic to it at all other than the individual's personal opinion/perspective and even that varies from game to game; which is why I can never understand people questioning, in a derogatory/nasty way other people's ratings everyone sees the game differently, even paid pundits in the media don't agree so why anyone would expect any consistency on a football forum I have no idea. I rarely do them myself now.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Unless you think of it as a science then just start with a 5 for everyone if we're poor, 6 if we're average and 7 if we're good, then mark up or down one or two points either way based on particular performances.

If one is assesing the players performance on the ratings.....its misleading!
mancunianfox Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I rarely mark below a 4. 6 usually means average or anonymous. 8 would mean they massively influenced the game. 4 = Roy Cropper 5 = Roy Castle 6 = Roy Harper 7 = Ropy Horn 8 = Roy Keane 9 = Roy Rogers 10 = Roy of the Rovers

Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 so a player gets a 5 just for crossing that whie line? No.

This one goes up to eleven.
blue blood Posted 6 November 2007 Author Posted 6 November 2007 No. so a player starts on 5 for crossing the white line?
Finnegan Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 so a player starts on 5 for crossing the white line? Are you not taking this just a tad too seriously?
The People's Hero Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 11 = Ro(y)bin Friday? This one goes up to eleven. 12 = Ro(y)bbin' Bastard - (Jamie Lawrence).
Finnegan Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 12 = Ro(y)bbin' Bastard - (Jamie Lawrence). To achieve a 12 you'd have to do something really spectacular. Like diving header the upright.
mancunianfox Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 11 = Ro(y)bin Friday? This one goes up to eleven. My favourate cult footballer and favourate film in one sentence. You are a bonafide genius!
Finnegan Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 My favourate cult footballer and favourate film in one sentence. You are a bonafide genius! I'll be here all week.

Manwell Pablo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 so a player starts on 5 for crossing the white line? No. A player recieves a standerd mark for the team performance as a whole. If we lost 8-0 to Telford Washing machines for instance it would be 1. If we beat Man u 6-0 it would be 10. Then you add, takeaway a couple of points based on indivdual performance.
The People's Hero Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I'll be here all week. Don't be so sure - with wit AND a sense of humour, you're more likely to get an arbitrary week's ban.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 My favourate cult footballer and favourate film in one sentence. You are a bonafide genius! I read that as Bonfire. I blame the fact it was bonfire night last night. Is there such thing as a bonfire genius?

They're not a great side but their kit is whiter than whiter. Sponsored by Daz. Once managed by Neil Warlock, Paul Daniels and Danny 'the-magic-man' Invincibile whilst under the ownership of Milan Mandawitch.

Thracian Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I think there is but i believe guy fawkes was the only ever documented one If he'd been any sort of genius perhaps he wouldn't have got caught and suffered the gruesome fate he did. Not too many human rights lawyers around in those days!
