McCarthy Eager For Action

New signing Patrick McCarthy says he can't wait to get his teeth into the Championship after completing his move to Leicester City on Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old defender signed a three-year deal with the club after the Foxes agreed a fee of £100,000 with Manchester City.

And McCarthy confirmed that as soon as he knew a deal was on the table he had no hesitation in making the move to the East Midlands.

Speaking exclusively to Leicester city World, he said: "Leicester are a Premiership club playing in the Championship and when Kevin Keegan pulled me aside on Wednesday and told me that they had accepted a bid from Leicester for me, I said I was more than interested in the move.

"The chance of first-team football was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"Things had turned a bit stale at Maine Road - I was playing regular reserve team football as captain but had found it difficult to break into the first team because of the performances of the two regular centre-halves (Richard Dunne and Sylvain Distin).

"This move has presented me with a new challenge."

Dublin-born McCarthy spent successful loan spells at Boston and Notts County in 2003 and also captained the Republic of Ireland Under-16 side in the Euro 2000 Championships and has been capped four times at Under-21 level.

He added: "Some people describe me as an old-fashioned centre-half and I'm happy with that.

"But I am not expecting to walk straight into the first team, I am prepared to work hard and know that if I do things right then hopefully I'll get the opportunity to show everyone what I can do.

"I can only learn off the likes of Dion Dublin, Nikos Dabizas and Matt Heath."

Nonetheless, McCarthy would love to play some part in Saturday's 'derby' clash against relegation-threatened Forest.

"It is a local derby and should be a great game to be involved in.

"But I am just happy to be here and am now looking to get some games under my belt.

"I have spoken to the gaffer and Rob Kelly and have been impressed with their attitudes and vision for the future."

I think this is a case of someone trying to say the right thing, i.e. talk up the existing players, and all he has done is looked like an ass. :w00t: :w00t: :blink::S:S:huh::unsure::rolleyes::thumbup:;)

Which probably means he never said it all, some embellishments in there by LCFC's script writer ;)

A classic OS clangger there! Don't think the LCFC news creating computer has been updated in the last few years.

"looking forward to the move to Leicester Fosse" "looking forward to playing with great players like Frank Worthington & Andy peake" :D

As expect, he didn't actually say that. Usual journalistic 'trick' used of saying a load of stuff, interviewee says 'yeah' and the journalist acts like he said all of it just because he agreed.
