I like Hume in the whole if I'm honest.

With the formation we're playing at the moment he's one of the only people that can play it fairy well. Fryatt just hasn't cut it there, nor has DJ, but let's face it they don't want to play there.

Even when Hume plays upfront he seems to drop off into deeper roles to receive the ball. Problem is, when he does that we're often left with only one striker up top, causing us a problem. That's one of the reasons I'd put him behind the strikers. People always bring up that he may not be the best passer of the ball, I don't think thats true really, when he's on the ball I always think he's very aware.

As for the ideal partnership upfront, at the moment, I'm still unsure. Lately Cort has put in a couple of acceptable performances although there is still mass room for improvement. Fryatt hasn't done anything to amaze me, but for me he's best as an out and out striker. DJ, our top scorer deserves his place in the team of late, always likely to grab a goal and he's actually got himself one or two assists so far. Finally, John has done ok. Lazy as many people have said, but with Hume behind him I feel that could help him.

So..

Particularly having three strikers because no two alone offer enough.

That's entirely correct. I'd go for:

Fulop

Chambers - N'Gotty - Kisnorbo - Sheehan

Wesolowski - Clemence - Hayes

Hume - John - Campbell

Bench: Fryatt, Cort, McAuley, King, Maybury

The answer to strikeforce limitations really isn't to include limited players. Hammond does make things happen, that's true, but his lack of quality can cost us and DJ has just the speed if we could only make the most of the type of player he is.

I've been concerned about Clemence but he's almost certainly better than King and does seem to try to take responsibility for instilling a little attacking impetus, which would explain the odd wayward shot. I know you reckon King is a good attacking option, but not how he's played in the first team so far, and Hayes can provide that drive from midfield, too.

Is it only me who'd make Hume captain? I know "he seems passionate" is a bit of a woeful reason but oh well.

IMO Clemence & Hume are by far the best out-field players at the club, personaly i cant see how anybody could consider not having them as first names on the team sheet

Clemence always looks (to me) to be head and shoulders above anyone else in terms of vision and awareness, and huuuuume should be included if for nothing else his energy, he constantly hassles oppo. players, chases back to make the tackles and to me always looks our most likely goal threat. (that said i can never see us scoring!!!) bit like Dickov.

the biggest problem we have is usually a complete lack width, 'crosses' come from far to deep, i would love to see us play more attacking wingers... maybe that Ferreira fella (ive never seen him i must admit!) but what i dont understand most of all about our club is why we get players in on loan and dont play em!! worse than that we keep the buggers around...baffles me!!!!

... oh and one more thing .... we should give Kaibi a chance!

I think he play's his best stuff 'In the hole' in a team something like this:

---------------------------Fulop----------------------

-------------------Kisnorbo----N'Gotty--------------

Chambers------------ Wesolowski-----------------Sheehan

--------------------------Clemence------------------

----------------------------Hume--------------------

----------------------John------Campbell-------Fryatt-------

Just because Hume plays on the right it doesn’t necessarily mean we lose his goal threat, especially when we are at home. Look at the way Ipswich line up, they have Counago and Lee upfront, with Walters and Clarke on the wings, that’s 4 strikers. I’ve not looked up the facts but Walters has scored his fair share of goals this season from the right side of midfield and Ipswich’s home form suggests this tactic works. On the other hand their away form suggests it doesn’t work away from home.

Hume should have the licence to drift when he’s playing on the right when we are going forward at home. That will make him difficult to mark, in fact due to our poor options on the left I would be inclined to play him there because he can then cut inside onto his right foot.

Hume is one of our best players, either up fromt or on right mid.

The reason he plays right mid is that we have some other players who can make an impact up front as you have mentioned, but not at right mid. Simple.

One thing I don't I don't understand any city fan who slates the guy as he is the only who gives 100% every match!

I appreciate Hume as much as anyone and greatly sympathise with what you say but chasing here, there and everywhere is not the only way of giving 100%.

Sometimes quality outways quantity, for Hume to be fully appreciated he needs the right service in the right areas, not constantly tracking back and comforting the defence!!!

You may be right. I don't have strong feelings about who's best out of Wesolowski, Clemence and King.

I've just said that King has far more capabilities as a midfielder than he's been allowed to show so far and that Clemence has not quite had the impact I suspected, nor Weso because of his injuries.

As a midfielder I have no illusions that Hayes is as good as any of the other three but he's willing enough and I do think he offers us some threat out wide on the left when fit. And he does try to get in the box - as King would if he were not given such a restrained role.

As far as Hammond is concerned (as mentioned earlier) another thing he offers apart from his pace is strength. If I had to pick our most dangerous players on the right I could argue the merits all day about Gradel, Ashley Chambers, Odhiambo and Hume.

But none of those have the pace combined with the strength that Hammond has and I would be concerned about that, certainly with the first three mentioned although all are probably more dangerous in that position than Hume. THere are many factors to consider and I'm not at all sure that any individual offers an easy answer.

I am 100% sure of this though. Hammond is a far better player and a far greater threat than most people give him credit for. I am equally sure it won't make the slightest difference to the fact that he's probably wasting his time here.

2-3-1-1-3? 2-4-4? that's the strangest formation I've ever seen. Not liking it either, no midfield/width.

Sheehan and Chambers to give the width with Clem at CM and Weso at DM how can you say there's no midfield? :dunno:
