Manwell Pablo Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/7108764.stm So we'll get a team that are as good as us on paper instead of one that isn't? Being seeded second isn't the end of the world, espeically as we don't even know who we've been drawn against yet, with the right manager we should always qualify.
hairy Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 I thought you need to be top of the group to qualify for the WC. Some second placers then go into a playoff as Germany did when we drew. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Tell me if I'm wrong. Yes but it's forever changing isn't it, again I might be wrong but didn't we have to play a play off against Scotland to qualify for one of the European championships. Theres 9 Groups, 16 European places so I guess not all of the 2nd places can go through but it doesn't point to a play off system either. I dunno.
purpleronnie Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 I can see england getting the group of death. Although the group of death could be the easiest group it wouldn't matter really, england would still struggle.

I dunno. For the World Cup, there are 9 groups. 8 of the 9 countries who finish second will play play-offs. The best second placed country will go through automatically with all the winners. If that makes any sense. And plus there is a different system for the European Championship and the World Cup. I believe. Don't quote me on that though.

Well we'd struggle against quite a few of the second seeded teams anyway so I'm not too bothred, fingers crossed we get Greece or Croatia.
Koke Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 That sounds right . Yes very strong team, but with the right manager we can finish ahead of them. Croatia would do as well.

Croatia would do as well. Tssss, The state we're in it would take quite a turn around for us to do the Czechs, they rarely slip up, they finished above Germany as well. Spain I wouldn't be distraught with, serial failures like ourselves always make qualfication a chore for themselves, Portugal are a bit like that to.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 How Sunday's draw will work. * 170 countries chase 31 places at the 2010 finals with only hosts South Africa guaranteed a place at the tournament. Holders Italy must qualify to defend their title. * The 32 World Cup finals slots are divided into 13 for Europe, six for Africa (including the host nation), four each for Asia and South America and three for Concacaf. The winners of the Oceania group play off against the fifth-placed Asian side for a further spot while the fifth-placed finishers in South America play off for a berth against the fourth-placed team from the central and north American and Caribbean Zone. * Europe has the biggest representation at the 2010 World Cup finals with 13 places. * Europe's 53 entrants will be divided into nine groups. The winners all qualify for the World Cup and the best eight runners-up play off for four more qualifying berths. * Africa will have three rounds of qualification, the first of which is already completed. The 48 remaining teams are divided into 12 groups for the second stage. The group winners and eight best runners-up progress to the final group phase where the 20 teams are divided into five groups. Only the group winners qualify for the World Cup finals. * Asia has five stages of qualification, two of which have been completed and already seen 21 countries eliminated. * Asia's remaining 20 teams are being divided into five groups. The top two advance to a fourth stage where they are split into two groups. The two group winners and the two runners-up qualify for the World Cup. The third-placed teams go into a playoff with each other and the winner then plays off with the Oceania winner for a World Cup berth. * All Concacaf's 35 members have entered four stages of qualifying, the first two of which will be played on a knockout basis. Twelve remaining sides will then be divided into three groups with the top two in each advancing to a final super group, from which the first three qualify for the World Cup and the fourth-placed team goes into a playoff against the fifth-placed South American side. * Oceania is already deep into its qualifying campaign with a group competition involving Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Vanuatu. The top two will meet in a two-legged final with the winner advancing to a playoff against Asia's fifth-placed finisher.
Master Fox Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 If this is anything like the last world cup I won't even bother watching it.
Joe. Posted 23 November 2007 Posted 23 November 2007 Yep, can't say i'm surprised at this. It's not like we deserve a seeding
