Music concerts, NFL, and now a motor racing track is being built inside for an event on December 16th.

Is this a good idea or does it matter?

It's a football ground ffs.

The pitch has never been good anyway, look how bad it was against Croatia. Wembley was famed for it's wonderful pitch.

Your pitch was a fooking disgrace against Croatia, and you have the nerve to moan about playing on an astroturf?

If you can't look after the pitch with the NFL on it, then the NFL shouldn't be playing there. It's the national football ground. The Millenium Stadium pitch isn't consistently perfect, but it's a lot bloody better than that and we manage the rugby in tandum, not to mention motorcross, boxing, concerts, etc.

They should have put an athletics track around the pitch, would save them building the olympic stadium

Sticking in as many events as possible is the only way the FA are going to be able to pay for the thing. so they'll happen regardless of whether the pitch can handle it, which of course it can't. The whole thing is a disgrace really - I've seen pitches better than that down the local park. I mean, the Millenium Stadium has those trays that they have the pitch on that allows them to swap it quickly and a retractable roof (and for a third of the price) and Wembley has what, a five star restaurant?. Of course, the Millenium Stadium lacks the escalators and stuff though, which is the important part, isn't it?

To be fair the millenium pitch was a disgrace when it was first laid and I think I'm right in saying that they had to relay it shortly after opening it

Aye, like I said, the millenium stadium pitch has never been consistently perfect - the pallet system is rather unpredictable. But I've never seen a national football bitch as bad as Wembley vs. Croatia in a major, European nation.

Ray Houghton's shot didn't bobble over Kevin Poole's hand for no reason in the 1996 play-off final

Seriously though, it's a bag of knackers.

There is no harm in holdong events at Wembly so long as it doesn't get in the way of / hinder the football IN ANY WAY. The NFL should never have happened as it was far too close to such a key game. Anything else can go ahead so long as the pitch can recover in time for the next game. And events will always happen at Wembly as the FA need to make some money to pay back what the stadium cost.

Spot on the FA do need to make money, but it is supposed to be the home of football and is supposed to be a good playind surface. The NFL completely buggered the pitch for us last week.

As for the latest event where there is motor racing and they have put tarmac down is absolutely crazy! But that is the FA for you!!!
