Brainy Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 Perhaps - though hearing people in the media calling the likes of Ricky Hatton and Lewis Hamilton losers is wrong. Hatton - whats his record? P42 W41 L1, with that defeat being on Saturday night? One defeat and he's being labelled as a loser. Harsh. Hamilton - all these people who say he came close to winning the F1 title in their first season because he jumped straight into the sport in the best car need to actually realise the only reason he is in a car like McLaren is because he has talent. He's been associated with McLaren and their boss since for over ten years. When he gets offered a contract by the team, what do you expect him to do? Yes, maybe he blew it in the end, but for a rookie in his first season to come 2nd, missing out by 1pt - huge achievement - not a loser. Id say 4/10 of the contenders last night actually won something but none of these really get the attention that they probably deserve. I'd say Hamilton and Hatton came 2nd and 3rd because they're popular with fans of their respective sports. A true winner has won the 07 awards but if you ask a person on the street if they know who James Toseland (another true winner in 07) is, more than 50% of them would say no. It's a popularity contest.

As for hatton id like to see them call him a loser to his face and id pay more than £14.95 to see that.
Matt Posted 10 December 2007 Posted 10 December 2007 I think it's more of a case of people over hyping, over expecting, building things up too much, I mean the Hatton fight for example, I knew Mayweather was a good boxer one of the best, if not the best in the world and in the back of my head knew it'd be tough and the liklyhood was that it'd be too much for Hatton but I read the paper's watched TV and got caught up in the hype and believed Hatton would win, no doubt about it, Hatton would snatch it...And what happened, and because he was so built up before this fight (And it's not just Hatton i'm just using him as an example because it's the last thing to have happened - It's everything English) and such a "dead-cert" he'd win he's now a "let down", "disappointment" which he is far from! Yes the current England squad is rubbish, Yes the manager did need the sack he was awful, and yes to be fair we did and do expect to qualify for the European Championship, but with the English players we have (Regardless of how many foreigners play here ) here we should expect to qualify for the European Championship, but I think even the players thought that and actually forgot they had to play and thought they qualify just because, Or scrape through atleast. In truth i'd have been embarrassed if England qualified (Although I wouldn't have minded ) because we didn't deserve it and hopefully it will act as a kick up the backside for the players (I doubt it though). Such as Leicester on saturday, I won't do anything, The players won't learn from it, but i'm almost () glad we lost on Saturday, We didn't deserve to get the draw, we were awful, we were gifted the goal, which many referees would have disallowed, we got what we deserved - A loss. People, The Papers, Media, e.t.c - Expect, Hype things up, Build thing up to much in England. In a way you need abit of expectation, and hype, but just make sure you don't get carried away with it. Don't forget you have to play to win, you have to try and score more goals, trys, knockouts/points before you win. Just because the black ink in the paper or someone on the TV says they'll win or write them up, doesn't automatically win.
