James. Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 These two appear to be emerging as the two front runners to take over as the next England manager. Capello is the firm favourite but who would you prefer? As a former World Cup winner as well as a glittering career in club management Lippi is my choice. He plays more creative, attacking football than Capello too. Capello would probably be the more authoritative although this sometimes alienates his players. Either way he will need an Englishman in there with him somewhere - probably Shearer or Pearce.
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 I don't envy anyone trying to inspire that bunch of overrated twats to anything above mediocrity. Level of expectation is ridiculous. Hiding to nothing.
Joe. Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Capello wants it. Therefore I'd be inclined to go for him.
Jack Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 I'd rather have Lippi. I would still be very happy with Capello though.
General Smuts Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Capello wants it. Therefore I'd be inclined to go for him. Agreed he's come out publicly and said hes eager to get it. Therfore he's front runner in my eyes.
James. Posted 11 December 2007 Author Posted 11 December 2007 The FA won't appoint someone Lippi. Has a lucky lady ever been one-eye pirated by you?
Micky Ruddle Posted 11 December 2007 Posted 11 December 2007 Capello. He sounds disciplined. He will take no shit. He'll kick the players up the arse, tell them what they think, tell them they are not actually that good.
Geo V Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Capello. Has a reputation of managing dour sides but its more the fact that he prefers them to be organized and mean in defence. I have always rated him from managing one of my fav teams of yesteryear when he guided Milan to god knows how many trophies and had players like Gullit, Van Basten, Weah, Baresi, Savićević, Rijkaard and Maldini. I also like what he did at Real last year in making them a succesful unit after a few years without any trophies. Get him in.
Zingari Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 The FA won't appoint someone Lippi. no but should they appoint someone whose name means "Beanie Hat"
escape2victory Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Has Lippi still got the desire and self motivation after already winning a world cup ? I doubt it. Out of the two, Capello would be my pick. Yes, his AC and Real sides were efficient and pragmatic, but they were bloody successful. Im sure if we won the WC winning 1-0 every game there wudnt be too many complaints. Funnily enough though, his Roma side of a few years ago were brilliant to watch and played very attacking football, and again, were successful. The only problem is that he carnt speak English. Its vital that he has some English coaches around him, not only to help him out with English football, but also for them to learn from a master and to be groomed into future England managers. When Greenwood was in charge, he had the likes of Howe and Venables coaching and being groomed. This has been lost over the years, and needs to come back, so that we dont have to rely on foreign help again. Hopefully in a few years time the likes of Shearer, Adams and Pearce will be ready to step up to the plate.
WetFlannel Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Capello seems very negative with his players though, and i dont know how it would affect the young lads coming through such as Richards and Lennon... he drove Ronaldo unfairly out of Real Madrid and humiliated in front of his own players, whilst also rejecting Cassano and Beckham... no doubt hes a good manager but Lippi would be my choice

Capello will play an older player if the younger one isn't quite up to standard whilst we have the attitude of dropping players like Becks for SWP when clearer Becks still had/has plenty to give. It may not be a bad thing to have a decent blend of players age wise and to stop this lunacy of picking young lads and hearing of all this talk about young lads from the u21s coming through when we have got talented players at our disposal but aren't seeing them at there best Internationally.
WetFlannel Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 He WAS well fat though. firstly, Lampard allegedly weighs more, and its a shame it overshadows one of the best players in the world...
Bryn Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Would prefer Lippi but wouldn't complain about Capello at all.
WetFlannel Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Its looking like its Capello now theyve scheduled an interview, i just dont agree with how he treats his players. Rather than support them he humiliates them and leaves them in the cold, just to let them know whos boss
James. Posted 12 December 2007 Author Posted 12 December 2007 firstly, Lampard allegedly weighs more, and its a shame it overshadows one of the best players in the world... In the same way he overshadowed half the Bernabeu?
WetFlannel Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 In the same way he overshadowed half the Bernabeu? real madrid fans certainly didnt want him to leave, and agreed how he was mistreated...
Simi Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 real madrid fans certainly didnt want him to leave, and agreed how he was mistreated... Yes they did. They wanted him out because they played defensive football. Capello has just left England having been at Wemberlee all day.

Simi Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 i was referring to ronaldo... Apologies, only came straight to the second page and with the thread been about Capello I was mis-guided.
