King Needs a Cracker

Commeth the hour commeth the man goes the saying and, if Andy King is going to make an early impression at Leicester he couldn't pick a better time than tonight at Ipswich.

Nothing could surprise me about a Leicester City line-up but with the team so desperate for creativity in midfield surely King will get a start tonight.

And if he does it's time for the real Andy King to step forward.

So far he's done what's been asked and expected of him. He's not taken risks but has done the simple thing quietly and competently.

He needs to keep do those simple things well but now more than ever he needs to demonstrate that he can support attackers, play incisive passes, chip in with a few shots and hopefully even a header or two to convince Holloway that he's not just another gap filler.

Holloway is on the lookout for new attackers and King needs to make sure he's not the man moved aside.

He needs to improve his stamina so he can last the full 90 minutes at championship level if necessary, not easy for someone who naturally covers a lot of ground but at a steady, well managed pace rather than anything that might look flat out.

But mostly he needs to get back into those places that make him a little bit special - the late runs into the box which are so difficult to counter.

King, sometimes for obvious reasons, has become withdrawn this season. Not personally but football-wise. He's become virtually a full-time holding midfielder not only in the first team but in the reserves and, towards the end, in the Academy side too.

In a way I understand it. He's a reliable defender. Wins the ball in the air, decent control, passes it quickly and acurately. Just what managers love.

But unlike Clemence, Wesolowski, Kenton and Maybury, Andy King is quite at home bursting into the penalty box. And he can finish. Indeed the number of shots he used to have in Academy games was extraordinary for a midfield player.

Nowadays he doesn't seem to go there. I don't mean he tries and fails or he gets marked out of it. He just doesn't take the trip as if he's been ordered to remain disciplined and to only be concerned with doing certain things in a certain area of the field.

If that's the case it is such a waste.

Andy King needs to show now what we might be missing. His long range shot against Southampton showed a momentary glimpse of what he can do but I'm thinking of much simpler goals I've seen him score. Back post headers from a few yards, well-timed tap ins, slick 18-yarders. Also his ability to play one-two's in the box.

King's problem is that others, like Clemence and Wesolowski, are seen as "established". Clemence is the captain and he won't easily get dropped and Weso's so well thought of he can even declare himself fit to play and be listened to.

It will be no use Kingy just plodding in midfield cos he's last man in and will be first man out. Especially as the nipper the way Holloway now talks.

King needs to have some impact. He needs to stamp his skills and his personality on the game. And King does have personality. Unfortunately it's not easily seen cos he doesn't stand out physically on the field, he might be anyone.

But at his best King is a really influential footballer and he has to show that now if he's not to risk being overshadowed and quite possible cast into oblivion.

He should definetly stop being over-hyped.

He's done alright, but i'm yet to see hardly anything of what i've been told.

Should I bother reading that or is it fair to say that the basic message is that Thracian thinks that King should play tonight?

I scanned it and I reckon that's the basic gist of it, along with a rudimentary show of support for Andy King to be made Prime Minister with immediate effect upon which world peace will break out and Status Quo will discover a fourth chord.

I've just picked a bit at random and it appears to be Thracian doing some verbal masturbation over King's ability to 'arrive late in the box - which is so difficult to counter'.

Would anyone else agree that it might be nice and indeed more effective if he could try getting there a bit quicker?

I bet I'd arrive in the box later than King... and I'm willing to bet that my Mum would be even behind me.

I'm not fussed for me.. but my poor mum. When is Thracian going to champion her cause for a spot in the middle? She's literally in tears.

Im sure Thrac is Bill Anderson you know.... This even has a "witty" headline...

When you see Thracian , Bill Anderson, and witty all in the same sentance, you know sarcasem is going to be involved somewhere.

Time to teach Thracian a lesson.

We don't NEED to hear about King all the time.

Okay - injuries have forced his selection. That does not vindicate your view that he's the best thing since sliced bread.

He's done okay by all accounts. No more, no less.

This thread is simply not needed.

Now - change it to cartoonery!

Wow, that woman looks like she's about to use superman style heat vision to burn a hole through that blokes skull.

Is any one leaving for Ipswitch early so they can take out Pablo Counago in some way shape or form?

You're never satisfied. I've already put a word in for Hullfox's aunt. :D

By the sound of this thread your comparing him to a young Paul Scholes....oh I wish he was!

Ha you have much to learn about him my young friend.

He once claimed David Connolly was worth 10 million. Oh how we laughed.

King has been solid but unspectacular so far, but I think he'll be a decent player when he's older. I'd certainly start him tonight as no one has demonstrated any reason to be in the team ahead of him. Even Clemence has had a bad three games. Infact thinking about it we really need a center mid in January, as Wesolowski is too injury prone and we're always playing right backs in center mid positions.

And a good few would have off-loaded him for around £1m instead of the £3m we got. As I said at the time, you can always come down.

And for a club that paid £5.5 million for Akinbiyi you would expect them to sell anyone cheaply!

Whatever, we didn't buy much for the money...

lol sorry you can't justify claiming DC is worth 10 million, the three Wigan payed was absloute day light robbery as it was.

Perhaps I should describe Paul Scholes as a footballer - you'd soon change your mind. :D
