Nick Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Good ol' Harry. Like it or not the Pompey fans are a formidable support. I remember them beating us at the Walkers and they carried on singing until the whole of the ground had emptied at the top of their voices. You've gotta respect that despite being beaten. Why would Harry leave what is essentially unconditional love and European chances to swap it for Newcastles support which all were not keen and a board that'll maybe give you a year if you're lucky. The club seems to think it has a divine right to win, why, I have no idea - big gate, no trophies in 39 years. The truth about Newcastle is that its like a different country. If you are not a "Toon" you'll never really be accepted. Look at how they are with Shearer its all they want and they would choose him every time over Harry? I'm not sure the board will appoint on the basis of unconditional toon love....... I'd love to see him have a crack at it though.........I bet he's no Klinnsman, N.
Simi Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Well done to Redknapp, I thought he might of gone myself. Fair play. Square one for Newcastle now, don't think they will be stupid enough to appoint Shearer. Houlier?
WetFlannel Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Great loyalty by Harry. He's done a terrific job at Portsmouth, and I think he will go far with them. Newcastle are 11th (I think) which is hardly an excuse to sack a manager. Especially one of Sam's calibre
Webbo Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 I think he was offered the job in the summer but turned it down because he didn't want to move up north(same reason he didn't take our job when he was offered it)so it doesn't really surprise me.
Joe. Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Give it to El Tel. I demand it. Don't think that'd be a bad appointment at all to be honest.

Ultra Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Someone sent a great e-mail into SSN earlier saying since the last time they won something there has been something like 10 Premiership clubs won a trophy, 8 Championship teams and 1 or 2 in league 1.Those numbers are not totally accurate but you get the gist. Since 1969 the teams to have won a major trophy are: Premier League Arsenal Aston Villa Blackburn Chelsea Derby Everton Liverpool Manchester City Manchester United Middlesbrough Sunderland Tottenham West Ham Championship Coventry Ipswich Leicester Norwich Sheffield Wednesday Southampton Stoke Wolves League 1 Leeds Luton Notts Forest Non-League Oxford Wimbledon A total of TWENTY-SIX clubs. It shows just how woeful the geordies' record of underachievement has been..
Bert Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Maybe Newcastle aren't as big as they think they are....
Boycie Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Find out how many teams have won a major trophy this century and that isnt very many, at least we are in this small list though.
Ultra Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Find out how many teams have won a major trophy this century and that isnt very many, at least we are in this small list though. Too right. There's only seven clubs - the big four plus us, Boro and Blackburn. It's a sign of the way things have moved in the game - and not for the better.
