Allardyce and Newcastle Part Company

They're 11th though. What do they expect? It's just the current climate of expectation that annoys me. Not everyone can win every game. Arsenal and Manchester United could easily have got rid of their managers at various points in the past but have stuck with them and have reaped the rewards. They have been major forces in the 1990s and 2000s under these managers but it wasn't always so. How do you find out whether Allardyce is capable of the same sort of progress he made at Bolton if you sack him after half a season when the team is in a fairly reasonable league position? And what do the fans know? They seem to want Shearer FFS. It's ridiculous and maybe this frustration reflects how I feel about our situation over the last few years as well.

Their supporters are even more stupid than ours and if they want to sack a proven manager and replace him with a TV pundit who has no experience then they are even stupider than I thought. Thank god Mandaric sticks to his directors box.

I get the feeling he was happy to go. A decent pay-off, looking more like the innocent party than a failure. Should be able to pick up a decent job by the summer.

I agree with that completely. I don't think he was particularly enjoying it there and he's probably content with his windfall and the same situation Jewell had - anyone with a vacancy in the Premiership now is going to be looking at him.

Top half I would think.

Stupid as they are (the fans) the owner need to listen to their input, seeing as he claims to be a fan himself.

Give them Shearer thats what I say. I would laugh, alot.

Well that's part of the problem. You can't have the owner sitting in with the fans while they're singing "Big Sam out". It's a ludicrous situation. It's one thing listening to their input and quite another to be doing what he's done.

As for top half, obviously. But it'd be nice if they admitted they were a shambles for once and needed sorting out and that 11th at this stage of the season isn't the end of the world for a squad like theirs.

When the fans can be seen over your shoulder singing "You don't know what you're doing" every time you make a substitution, you can't enjoy it too much. :ermm:

Allardyce won't be out of a job long... he can take the Leicester City job in a few weeks time when Newcastle poach Holloway. :giggle:

In order to improve the club's fortunes this season, Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley has suggested that the 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption" might be the ideal choice to replace Sam Allardyce, who was sacked this week.

The film, based on a short story by Stephen King, tells the tale of a man's wrongful imprisonment and subsequent experiences in prison. "The themes of struggle and determination, and the feelgood factor that the film produces, are just what our club needs at the moment," said Ashley at a press conference at the club's ground this morning.

Concerns over the fact that the film does not currently possess the standard coaching qualifications the FA insist on for Premier League managers were brushed aside by Ashley. "The film was nominated for 7 Oscars - I think that says a lot for its ability to produce passionate, quality, free-flowing football."

Newcastle would, if they make the appointment, be following in the footsteps of Aston Villa, who recently appointed the song "Red Red Wine" by UB40 as assistant coach to Martin O'Neill, and Sheffield Wednesday, who sacked series 3 of "Only Fools and Horses" as manager and replaced it with "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" by Louis de Bernieres.

I really don't believe there's such a thing as a "poor" manager who gets a team into the top six of the premier league these days.

Certainly not in the last two or three seasons anyway, it just isn't done any more.

At bolton, allardyce was a poor manager at a shit club, which made him look good.

How did he manage that?

Redknapp would be a fool to go there I feel.

But, maybe the temptation of money and the chance to win something was to tempting with him been the age he is.

Expect the "I've taken the club as far as I can" speech soon.

It would be true though.

Redknapp will have a tough decision to make, and it'd be a big risk joining Newcastle.

For starters he's be gutted to leave a team on the up like Pourtsmouth. He's done a great job there.

Secondly, he'll have pressure immediately to turn around Newcastle's fortunes. Their fans are restless and want results now.

But overall, Newcastle are a bigger club, it's a challenge and he'll no doubt be getting more money out of it.

Newcastle is a manager's graveyard.

Bosses with a far better record than Redknapp have gone there and failed.

If he does go there, it'll only be to top up his pension. He won't last more than two seasons max.

Or maybe to see if he can prove himself at a 'big club' ?

But why do people call them a big club ?

Because they have a big ground ?

I see your point completely but they do have a big stadium, a big fanbase, a big budget and big expectations. They're one of the least big "big" clubs but all in all they're still pretty big.

Someone sent a great e-mail into SSN earlier saying since the last time they won something there has been something like 10 Premiership clubs won a trophy, 8 Championship teams and 1 or 2 in league 1.

Those numbers are not totally accurate but you get the gist.

Potentially, they are a big club. A rather large one in fact.

Where did you get this from?

I heard it on TalkSport at about 8 this evening. They said that sources very close to the club had been in touch with them in the last hour to say Shearer would accept it if a firm offer was made.

All very unofficial but most probably true.
