Unabomber Posted 9 January 2008 Author Posted 9 January 2008 Bloody Hell, Newcastle are all over the place! I know I'm pretty shocked, especially considering the timing. He gets half a season, after his successes with Bolton its just stupid. Shearer in then, it looks like.
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Thought we were bad... That club does get on my nerves a lot!!
The Reverend Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Muppets. Silly and ridiculous decision. Ah well, at least we're not the only laughing stock now.....
Simi Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I really cannot beleive this. Football is becoming an absolute joke at the moment. The money is the only objective for people know. Any person that thought Newcastle could compete for Europe this season hasn't a clue. Good luck Sam.
DB11 Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 So he was given 5 years to turn their fortunes around yet they got rid of him after half a season. It just doesn't make sense
SamL Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I feel this decision will come back to haunt them. I think Allardyce should have been given more time because of the success he had at Bolton with little money. I don't see how they can get anybody better. At least we're not the only laughing stock anymore.
Boycie Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 What a joke! Shame on Newcastle. I like Big Sam aswell, very good manager. I just hope he can move on this and find a better club with fans that appreciate him as a manager. Somewhere better will come along sooner rather than later.
Boycie Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 "Parted Company" Just the nice way of saying leave yourself or leave by being sacked.
lildave3 Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 ****ing disgrace quite frankly. Edit - If Shearer actually gets the job, it'll be even more of a disgrace.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Mike Ashley, what a gutless idiot. 11th in Prem, not bottom, not in the relegaton spots, 11th. I hope the bill was enormous. Good luck Sam, you are better than those idiots.
Simi Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Nine days ago... Magpies chairman backs AllardyceSam Allardyce Allardyce has been under pressure ever since arriving at the club Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has insisted manager Sam Allardyce's job is not in danger despite the constant speculation over his future. The former Bolton boss has been under pressure since his appointment in May and it got worse as Newcastle took just one point out of nine over Christmas. But Mort says they are not looking for a replacement for Allardyce. "There's a different name every week and there's no truth in it. I find all this speculation tedious," said Mort. On Saturday Newcastle went down to a controversial 2-1 loss at Chelsea, with Salomon Kalou scoring a late winner which looked suspiciously off-side. 606: DEBATE Your views on Sam Allardyce But in their previous game, a 1-0 loss to Wigan, the Magpies managed just one shot on goal and were barracked by their own fans, and Allardyce admitted he could not argue with their assessment of the team's performance. "If I was them I would be singing what they sang because we're not good enough," he said. "I know it's not good enough, so it doesn't take much for them to work out it's not good enough. They are not daft." Newspaper speculation has mentioned former Magpies hero Alan Shearer and ex-Tottenham boss Martin Jol as possible successors to Allardyce. Newcastle's next game is at home to Manchester City on 2 January.
WetFlannel Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 They are in mid-table... It's hardly end of the bloody world is it? Newcastle fans want to much. I'd hate to see a Newcastle supporter become a Leicester supporter for the day...
LeeCovFox Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 To be honesty I don't rate the bloke as a manager and I was glad he never got the nod for England. Alttough to him his track record is a successful one, doing well and Blackpool, Notts County and Bolton, so maybe its just a personal thing on my behalf. I just don't like his brand of football i guess, and his incessant moaning. Yet I am a Warnock fan! More than a little hippocritical then! Despite my personal views on his management skills though, I think Newcastle have made the wrong decision here. He himself said it would take 5 years to mould the club into the one he wanted and to make it successful again. The board knew, and supported this, and so should have given him the opportunity to prove it. Its not as if he has done markedly worse any other manager up there since the Keegan era, Bobby Robson and Kenny Dalglish aside. Its just indicative of football today, the yearning for quickfire money through success. But such quickfire success is rare and is not often sustainable. Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United come to mind. The way to ensure success, or as close to assurance of such success as is possible, is to give a manager time to build a club in his own fashion, to bring in the players which suit a particualr style of play. Again, despite my reservations about Allardyce, his Bolton Wanderers side is a prime example of this. I can only imagine it will be Alan Shearer next. I like him, and if its the case that he is the next Newcastle United manager then I hope he is successful, Surely he is one man the Newcastle board would be willing to give time to? But if he fails, what happens then? For years Geordies have spoken of the man as some kind of messiah, the man to halt their troubles. Yet from what I can work out, the Geordies contribute significantly to their own lack of success, calling for a managers head as soon as things don't start looking up within 6 months. They even turned on one of their own eventually, in Bobby Robson, despite consistently threatening the top 3 or 4. Maybe i'm being a little harsh, I don't know any Newcastle fans, and pehaps i'm relying too heavily on the media for my impressions, but they come across as an impatient lot.
Simi Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Going to be really funny when it all goes tits up for Shearer and his legend status is gone.
LeeCovFox Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I hope Bolton sack Megson when he has a bad run and give Big Sam the job back. Would teach the ginger t0sser how it feels to be the victim of the short termism which eats a modern football like a cancer.
breadandcheese Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I think I'm probably one of the few who agree with Newcastle's decision. The current chairman did not employ Allardyce, he was there when he took over. Now it's all very good saying, give Allardyce time to build his team and mold them, but if the current board do not like that direction, then they are right to get rid. The Newcastle board and players have to ask, do we want to see our team become a better version of Bolton? Do we subscribe to that style of football and believe in the vision? If the answer is no, which it clearly is, then getting rid is the only option.
surrifox Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 one of footy's great truisms- it doesn't matter who Newcastle sign as a manager or who they sign as a player they will ALWAYS be shit and will never win anything
Durnerz Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 I agree with Allardyce when he said 'This club is a 3 year job' as Newcastle are far far away from being the trophy-challenging, high flying side they fantasise about being, but then again I think back to when Levein was here and said the same, sadly he made us worse as Allardyce is doing to Newcastle, I would probably side with Newcastle on the decision but if its Shearer that comes in I do fear for them.
lookwhaticando Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Compared to the toss they've had for the previous three seasons, they were actually doing rather nicely this time around. Allardyce was a massively different proposition to all the previous managers. He employs a huge backroom team and applies a very scientific & fitness based regime. Getting the results he was used to at Bolton in the past 3 seasons was never going to happen overnight - especially as the squad he inherited was pretty rotten to begin with. He needed time, and he wasn't given it. But such is football. I like Newcastle, but I think they've been a bit too quick to pull the trigger. Not for the first time, either. Good luck Sam, wherever you end up next. As for Newcastle, hopefully they'll employ the "right" person this time and actually give him time to do his thing. The Newcastle way is usually to pick someone shit/hopeless/cheap (see Souness, Roeder). If they do their usual thing, they'll probably end up with Peter Taylor... hopefully this Ashley bloke finds someone a little more suitable. I'd love to see Tinkerman Ranieri at St. James'.
