Joe. Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Why? We needed something different, we were crying out for a big man with control. Exactly. Ebanks Blake would not have had an effect at this club with the way we were playing. Howard much more suits what we need right now.
Simi Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 It beggars belief that Holloway didn't try and sign him! How do you know he didn't?
mancunianfox Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Why? We needed something different, we were crying out for a big man with control. But our supporters are hysterical when we miss out on anyone! Most are oblivious to the actual problems in our squad and just think that goals for one club guarantees goals for another.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd prefer Howard to Ebanks-Blake personally. Maybe Holloway didn't think it was right for the club to employ yet another trouble-maker. I'd try and flog Fryatt and Hume to bring in Eastwood or Sharp. Just a little pipe dream of mine.

I thought we had heard the last of those two in the summer. Eastwood is just a pikey Fryatt.
Babylon Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Eastwood is just a pikey Fryatt. I'd do a swap any day.
Dr_Fox Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 call me hysterical if you like...doesn't bother me! I just think that this lad would have had more impact than Howard will and his transer value is likely to increase unlike Howard who will decrease...looks like I'll have to agree to disagree with a few of you on this one
mancunianfox Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 I'd do a swap any day. I've never been that impressed by Eastwood and both him and Fryatt have similar weaknesses. I wouldn't want either because both of them will only score goals if they are the biggest fish in a small pond.
morris1234 Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 According to this link:http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Foo...Argyle-hit-man/ The £1.5m was a release clause in his contract with Plymouth. Holloway knew all about this release clause so could have signed him for £1.5m at any point Surely nobody can believe that Steve Howard was a better use of £1.5m than Ebanks-Blake. Howard scored 17 goals last season for Derby and is 32 years old Ebanks-Blake has already scored 13 goals already this season and we're barely into January and he's only 21 years old It beggars belief that Holloway didn't try and sign him! but we needed some muscle in the team ,ebanks-blake is not much different to DJ (apaprt from his scoring record) but it hink dj will come good when hes fit again and gets decent supply from the midfield.

Staf Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 As he's only joining on a months loan i'd rather we not waste a week of it through him being injured and get him when he's back fit. Cant believe they have sold him he is a quality player their fans are going to be furious especially of they sell Norris and Halmosi
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Cant believe they have sold him he is a quality player their fans are going to be furious especially of they sell Norris and Halmosi The simpletons are already revolting. http://pasoti.co.uk/talk/viewtopic.php?p=343617#343617
fannysyouraunt Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is on his way to Wolves in a £1.5million switch from Plymouth Argyle after the Midlands based club triggered a clause in the striker's contract. On joining the Pilgrims from Manchester United in 2006, Ebanks-Blake stipulated that he must be allowed to talk to any club making a bid of £1.5million or more. Now after scoring 22 goals in 74 games for the club, including 13 in 23 this season, he is set to join a Wolves side who are the joint lowest scoring side in the division. Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock is understandably disappointed to lose the Championship's third highest scorer, but admits that there was nothing the club could do to prevent him leaving. Best contract "We did not want Sylvan to leave, and we would have offered him the best contract that has ever been offered to a Plymouth Argyle player to try and persuade him to stay," he told the club's official website. "However, he was so determined to join Wolves that he would not even discuss a new deal with us. For me, that is disappointing." Plymouth have made a tidy profit on a player who cost them just £300,000 two years ago, but Sturrock believes that without the clause in the contract they could have got a lot more for the striker. Bargain "When Sylvan joined us, he and his agent were insistent that the £1.5million trigger price was written into the deal," he said. "If we hadn't agreed, he wouldn't have signed, it's as simple as that. "When Wolves indicated they were prepared to meet that price, we were bound to allow Sylvan to talk to them and we could not ask Wolves for a bigger fee. "I believe that Wolves have got a bargain. Sylvan is already one of the top goalscorers in the Championship, and there is more to his game than just goals. "He is still a young man and has everything in front of him

I guess their position had the fans overshadowing how small their club really is. They would of been stupid not to see it coming.
Bryn Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Overrated, 6 of those goals are pennos are they not? Better than Hayles but I think his scoring record is in fact inferior (in terms of goals per minute played) to Campbell's, who so far has cost us roughly that.

Plymouth Pete Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Exactly.Ebanks Blake would not have had an effect at this club with the way we were playing. Howard much more suits what we need right now. Holloway obviously signed Hayles instead. Had he made an offer for Ebanks-Blake we would have had to accept it under the terms of his contract. At the moment we still have our 4 best players. Norris, Halmosi, Seip and Timar, all except Norris were Ollie signings.

Soon Norris will be gone to Ipswich and you'll be left with a couple of decent centre-halves and a left winger. Not that I take any pleasure in it but at least a few of the ****** we've had on here recently will be annoyed today. This is just the way football works. If we were any good half the Premiership would be after our players.

Fox You Forest Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 So who do Plymouth now have as strikers? Benson & Hedges
dandannieldanok Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 So who do Plymouth now have as strikers? They've bid for Luton strikers Calvin Andrew and Drew Talbot, can't imagine the bids would be turned down given Luton's precarious position.
MC Prussian Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 In a word pissed. You will finish above us now, Holloway was right to leave. Hold your horses, cowboy.
