stevie909 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 why oh why oh why are we still playing stearman at right back instead of chambo? Im not a stearman hater by any stretch, but i think he has consistently been one of the underperformers at the club, and on the bench we have a pacey right back whos played in the prem. I might just be missing something, or maybe he is just shite, but i would really like to see him get some games at rb, as the one game i have seen him in that position (blackpool), he looked pretty solid. ?

James Chambers (ankle) you heard it here first
Mark Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Adebola would have won every header against Chambers. Adebola hardly got a touch against Stearman and ended up over on the right late in the second half, again to no avail. Like him or not, he did a good job Saturday.
Bert Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 At the minute Stearman is playing well enough to keep himself at right back, that's why.
Wezleylowski Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Stearz will be incredible next game, I feels it in me cockney bones.
Wezleylowski Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Why isn't Kaebi playing? He got sucked down a rabbit hole by bugs bunny. Space jam style.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Why isn't Kaebi playing? Why aren't I playing?
lildave3 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He got sucked down a rabbit hole Is this a metaphor?
Scow Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Apart from the mix up with Alnwick, I thought he defended well. Alhough he's still hoofing it aimlessly down the line without looking.
Geo V Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 I haven't seen much live footy since coming back from my travels but I cant work out why Stearman is almost hated on here. He isn't a superstar but has played OK in the games I saw early in the season but it seems that people actually hate the bloke???!!

They can think of reasons to hate anyone if they want someone else in. Some wanted Kaebi there (how idiotic was that idea?) and others want Chambers (good defender but no final ball that I've ever seen in attack).

Im sure that the whole Kaebi thing has got very boring by now but his inclusion would have made sense with his apparent pedigree. Who knows if he will come back to haunt us in future seasons although that is very unlikely. Chambers started well before getting injured and then was played out of position but Stearman has done Ok from what I have seen although like most younger players, makes mistakes that end up at times being costly. Lets hope with a more attacking approach the focus shifts from our younger wing-backs but if they do make errors and are replaced, like Chambers for Stearman as an example that we dont end his career before he hits 22!

I agree with you. I raised the point in anothet thread, and i think Stearman has been poor this season. There were far more important things to sort out previously, so most, including myself, ignored it. Now that we have signed some good players in other positions, i feel right back is our weakest spot. This whole thing about how we have so many right backs is nonsense. We have Stearman and Chambers who are out and out right backs. No one else. Sure, people like McAuley, and N'Gotty can play there, but they arent long term solutions. I feel Stearman has played poorly recently. He did well in stopping Adebola on Saturday, but his distribution of the ball is poor, and he is uncomfortable on the ball. I would be happy to give Chambers a go, and would be delighted if he did well there. If not, i would like to possibly see us bring someone new in to play there. With that said, i have to make the point that it isnt the most pressing problem. I would far rather see us bring one or two more players in midfield in case of injuries/suspensions to the current mid, as other than the four who played on Saturday, we dont have many decent backups. But if we sort that, i think it needs to be adressed.
Maybes Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Adebola stopped himself on saturday. He aint that good. I dont dislike stearman as much as I used to. I may have to change my avatar now. hhhmm

I think youre forgeting that Holloway see's them everyday near enough so he's in a far better position to judge than us. Having said that i would'nt mind seeing Chambers get a couple of games there if only for a comparison.

You could say that about Sheehan, but the other way round of course. Good final ball, but no good in defence.
The People's Hero Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 You could say that about Sheehan, but the other way round of course. Good final ball, but no good in defence. You could, but it wouldn't be true. His final ball is poor in open play. Only when he can pick the ball up, place it down, adjust it's position three or four times and then strike it, is the delivery any good.

Ultra Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Stearman has protected status in the team and has done since Allen left. I'm one of many who think Chambers would be a better option at right-back, but clearly the manager takes a different view.

Here here. Chambers is a very good player IMO. He's shown he can adapt to fit in where he is needed to play aswell. He poses great pace and has a very good engine. Not sure about him defensively. However dont fix it, if it aint broke
isaidno Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Stearman is more likely to pop up with a goal from a set piece than Chambers.
