MikeyT Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Sky Sports News understands David Beckham has been left out of Fabio Capello's first England squad for the friendly with Switzerland. The former England captain has been training with Arsenal in a bid to earn selection for his 100th cap but he has not played competitively for more than two months following the end of the Major League Soccer season. Capello has a history of dropping the former Manchester United star, jettisoning him from the Real Madrid set-up after he signed for the Galaxy before, like Steve McClaren, recalling him as the season reached fever pitch. But Sky Sports News understands the door has been left open for Beckham to go on and earn his 100th cap once he has regained match fitness. Capello is due to announce his full squad later on Friday but took the decision to omit Beckham out of fairness to other players who have earned a call-up. More to follow...
Hugo Sanchez Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Well done The guy is past it and plays in L.A. Should never play for england if you play your football in the good old u s and a.

Can see where Capello is coming from. Capello in his first game is going to play his best team and the fittest team, and Beckham has only been training with Arsenal so he isnt match fit. Going to Brazil hasnt helped Beckham's chances. Would still like to be in the squad though, him coming on for the last half hour can always prduce something special.
MC Prussian Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 And that's "Breaking News" for BBC Sport...?
Alexikokopops Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 And that's "Breaking News" for BBC Sport...? Well given that even the FA didn't know yesterday and were clueless as to whether they'd have to do anything to commemorate Beckham's 10th cap it's not that surprising they've classed it as "Breaking News". At least it'll stop this fecking debate that's been going about for months now.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 So its just pure speculation still then? No, been told that it wouldn't be fair to pick him because he isn't playing.
James. Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 If this turns out accurate as it looks like it will then I think it's a fantastic statement of intent by Capello. I'm pretty sure Beckham will get his 100th cap, which he definitely deserves, but if he's not match fit then other players who have earned the chance should be rewarded. We want a culture where players strive and compete for selection, not have it handed to them on a plate.
FleckneyFox Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Just been announced Curtis Davies is in WTF!
dandannieldanok Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Just been announced Curtis Davies is in WTF! Just about to post the same thing, Why Fabio, why?

Joe. Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Good. There's absolutely no need for Beckham to be in this squad for a friendly. Capello knows what he can do and by the looks of things wants to give some of the younger and untested players a go.
Wycombe Fox Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Can't believe a new man comes in and still Titus Bramble is overlooked. What is this country coming to?
FleckneyFox Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Wouldnt have gone for Upson either wouldve been better off with someone like Dawson. Aaron Lennon, Rob Green, Jermain Defoe and Beckham all unlucky to be left out me thinks.
MikeyT Posted 31 January 2008 Author Posted 31 January 2008 Wouldnt have gone for Upson either wouldve been better off with someone like Dawson. Aaron Lennon, Rob Green, Jermain Defoe and Beckham all unlucky to be left out me thinks. Agree with you on Dawson and especially Lennon!!!!
Tommeh Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 No Green, cannot believe that especially as calamity Kirkland is in over him! Also why the fook is Shorey in there with Bridge, Cole and also Lescott who is fully capable at LB??? Nice to see Heskey, Agbonlahor and Young though Shame for Becks I'd have loved to see him get him 100th cap and there is still nobody in that squad who can get close to him when it comes to set plays. Oh and Downing, why??? Over Lennon! Even bigger wwhhhyyyyyy???
Jack Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Agree with you on Dawson and especially Lennon!!!! Lennon is in the under 21s
isaidno Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Downing is in good form at the moment. The squad gets reduced down to 23 players on saturday.
joely22 Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 Downing is in good form at the moment. The squad gets reduced down to 23 players on saturday. Let's hope a left back ****s off then.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 I Know hes Italian but 12 defenders. Should of put Lennon in of the over rated Downing and Defoe instead of Crouch. Suprised by Kirklands inclusion Rob Green has been way more consistant.

Agree with you about Downing, but id rather have Crouch than Defoe anyday! Cant stand Defoe!

Erm in case you haven't noticed Crouch is probably England's most valuable striker at the moment goal-wise. You'd be mental to leave him out.
lildave3 Posted 31 January 2008 Posted 31 January 2008 GABBY AGBONLAHOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Him and Heskey up front is the stuff that dreams, mainly mine, are made of. :D :D
