Messi Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 I live in barrow upon soar and i woke to alot of sirens this morning. A lorry has been crashed into the train bridge knocking the wall on the train causing the train to crash... the train driver is also stuck It is on Leicester Sound now
isaidno Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 A train driver was hurt and rail services disrupted when a lorry crashed into a footbridge bringing the structure down on to a line. The footbridge, at Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, was hit by a train travelling from Nottingham to Norwich. Six passengers were on the train, but none were injured. The train driver was cut free by fire crews, but is not believed to be seriously injured. Services north of Leicester to Nottingham are being disrupted. An East Midlands Trains spokeswoman said the crash happened at just after 0600 GMT and was affecting services from Sheffield and Nottingham to London. She said emergency services were at the scene along with Network Rail, but it was not clear how long it would take to clear the line. "The passengers are fine and being helped by staff but they will be transferred to another train as soon as possible," she said.
Guest Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 It is on Leicester Sound now Nottingham News (or BBC East Midlands, as it is unofficially known), didn't mention this. I can't say I'm surprised.
James. Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 What a lame accident. Mediocre. Like our weather. I blame the immigrants.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 Report on Virgin Media Train driver seriously injured, but everyone else seems ok. Line blocked for the rest of the day ( shame it couldn't be blocked south of Leicester ) Could have been much worse!
General Smuts Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 Well im stuck darn sarf for the time being as i were due to get a train back from St Pancras to work in about an hour. Any excuse not to work eh!
syston_fox Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 anyone know when trains will be back up and running?
Floating Fox Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 anyone know when trains will be back up and running? What a farce, the train is blocking one line on the slow services. Why they can't still use the fast train to Loughborough I don't know.
General Smuts Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 anyone know when trains will be back up and running? This would be good to know actually. Saves me keep ringing up the train station to find out whether or not to bother trying to get home tonight.
Uncle Albert Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 What a lame accident.Mediocre. Like our weather. I blame the immigrants. What a stupid thing to say. If a driver is trapped in a train, when he has crashed what do you think the emergency services will do leave him there and let all the other trains go past. Come on.
CupidStunt Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 Pain in the arse for me,as i cant go down high street on the way home, and have to take a short detour Just about as bad as the sileby scum cutting through barrow when slash lane gets flooded
General Smuts Posted 1 February 2008 Posted 1 February 2008 Well ive gotten back to Leicester but it took me 25 mins to get out of Leicester Station cos of all the buses and excess taxis/pickups. Mission. Did well to take the night off work either ways.

Scow Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 There was a traffic jam in 'sorrel today, which I thought was a little strange. Then I found out some person had somehow overturned their vehicle on a stretch of road where the speed limit is 30. Looked like the driver was still in the car as I went past.
cisono Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 anyone know when trains will be back up and running? My guess would be next week (if you are lucky), and probably reduced service even then!
Micky Ruddle Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 My guess would be next week (if you are lucky),and probably reduced service even then! Try earlier this morning. Brother caught the train easily from Sileby to Leicester. Don't know about the later times. I'm taking the bus from now on, until i know that it has been cleared up. It looked nasty though today when i went by it. They moved the train, but the bridge.. Messy work. Hope the driver is in a stable condition.

They were cutting someone out of the car as we drove past. My passenger is not reknowned for his patience and shouted obscenities out of the window. Oh dear.
