Joe. Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 The whole team were collectively woeful. I don't think any of them deserve above a 6. Alnwick 5.5- Looked pretty good from crosses, kicking was suspect, went out of play far too often for my liking. Stearman 5.5- Looked alright, fairly solid defensively. Probably one of our better players but that's not saying much. McAuley 6- Wasn't often troubled and did what he had to do well enough. Kisnorbo 6- Ditto McAuley Mattock 4.5- Hauled off at half time, struggled a lot. Hume 5- Great work for our goal but apart from that was poor. Clemence 5- Can't seem to remember him making much impact on the game at all. Oakley 5.5- Tackled well as usual but gave the ball away too often like all the team. Lackzo 4- Like Mattock struggled and was poor. Howard 4.5- Got beat virtually everytime in the air first half, improved slightly and got a goal. Hayles 5.5- Battled well and won his fair share of tackles as usual. One of the better players but still couldn't do enough to change things. Subs: DJ 4- Did virtually nothing and rarely troubled the Blackpool defense. Chambers 5- Offered more going forward than Mattock but couldn't do much else in a terrible team performance. Bori N/a
DB11 Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I didn't go to the game, but from what I heard on the radio (sorry Daggers ) our whole left side was poor and we only improved when Hume was switched from right mid to up front.
Daggers Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I didn't go to the game, but from what I heard on the radio (sorry Daggers ) our whole left side was poor and we only improved when Hume was switched from right mid to up front. Aw bless...
bald reynard Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Just got back. WHY do I follow Leicester City !?! Alnwick: 4 - Absolute shambles. More 'punch' than a debs cocktail party (makes Henderson look a clean catcher !). We must get Fulop in the close season. Stearman: 5 - Shaky Stevens ? - no, shaky Stearman McAuley: 8 - MoM. Hardly put a foot wrong, not his fault for the goals. Marked the Blackpool centre forward so well, he had to be taken off - just a shame that Dickov came on in his place ! Kisnorbo: 6 - Steady. Didn't close down quickly enough. Mattock: 6 - Looked OK, especially going forward. Don't know why he was subbed at half-time. Hume: 6 - Usual hard work, but did look like a headless chicken at times. We missed him when subbed though. Oakley: 6 - 'Derren Brown' - now you see him, now you don't. Clemence: 6 - Obviously had a bad Friday night - woke up at half time. Lascko: 5 - Hair looked good ! Howard: 6 - Worked harder than ever - needed to though - great midfield player (I thought he was a striker !) Hayles: 6 - A bit of a pussy - loves running into dark alleys. Subs J Chambers: 6 - No left back, but he tried. Campbell: 7 - Tried really hard, some good runs, seems to have got his pace back. Must be a better bet than Hayles. Bori: 5 - Not really enough time to make much of an impression. I thought Olly's plan was to sort out the midfield !?!
Ultra Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Alnwick - 6 Stearman - 5 Kisnorbo - 5 McAuley - 5 Mattock - 4 Hume - 5 Oakley - 5 Clemence - 5 Laczko - 4 Howard - 7* (for his goal and workrate) Hayles - 6 Campbell - 6 J. Chambers - 5 Bori - 5
Joe. Posted 2 February 2008 Author Posted 2 February 2008 I think that's extremely generous on Howard Ultra. He lost virtually every header that he contested with the Blackpool centre back and didn't pose much of a threat at all.
lavrentis Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Hmmmm. Alnwick - 6 Stearman - 5 Kisnorbo - 6 McAuley - 6 Mattock - 4 Hume - 5 Oakley - 6 Clemence - 6 Laczko - 4 Howard - 5 Hayles - 7 *(worked hard) Campbell - 5 J. Chambers - 6 Bori - 4 Crowd - 8. To sit in that stand freezing cold we must be nuts. Ollie - 6. Players weren't motivated.
syston_fox Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Alnwick 5- scares the crap out of me with how eager he is to come out - woeful kicking in first half too Stearman 6- did ok is all i can say about him. McAuley 6.5- our best player i think - won every header Kisnorbo 6- Ditto McAuley Mattock 5- hard to see how we got a 7 figure offer for him... Hume 5- another average performance from him Clemence 5- as above Oakley 6- much better second half and looked eager to push forward in search of an equaliser. Lackzo 3- piss poor - has never even come close to the performance against Coventry Howard 4.5- how can a big man like him not win the ball in the air??? Bonus half point for the goal. Hayles 6.5- ran himself to the ground today and didnt look that bad on the left wing either. Subs: DJ 5- worked hard but didnt impact enough on the game Chambers 5- much better option on the left than laczko and should start the next game Bori N/a
Ultra Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I think that's extremely generous on Howard Ultra. He lost virtually every header that he contested with the Blackpool centre back and didn't pose much of a threat at all. In the first half, this was true. But second half, he won more challenges than he lost. And he took the one clear chance available to him. With better service from those behind him, he and Campbell may have won the game for us. But as so often in the past five years, we paid the price of defending too deep in the last ten minutes.

You are right, he did take the chance he got. For Howard to score goals on a more consistent basis he needs service from the wings, something he just isn't getting at the moment.
Ultra Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Hmmmm. Alnwick - 6 Stearman - 5 Kisnorbo - 6 McAuley - 6 Mattock - 4 Hume - 5 Oakley - 6 Clemence - 6 Laczko - 4 Howard - 5 Hayles - 7 *(worked hard) Campbell - 5 J. Chambers - 6 Bori - 4 Crowd - 8. The away end was an absolute dump, like most of Blackpool town centre.
Uncle Albert Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 For those who went to the game. Would you play Hume next game, based on the rating you have given him or would you go for someone else?
Guest Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Crowd - 8. To sit in that stand freezing cold we must be nuts. To sit/stand in that freezing cold with a virus when one really should have been at home in bed is more than nuts.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 From what I saw (I was in the main stand) half the fans were standing or dancing. The away end was an absolute dump, like most of Blackpool town centre. Spot on there. With everthing.
Joe. Posted 2 February 2008 Author Posted 2 February 2008 For those who went to the game. Would you play Hume next game, based on the rating you have given him or would you go for someone else? No. I wouldn't like to drop big Barry or Howard up front and he's not good enough on the right wing unfortunately. At least for now anyway.
Shrenchel Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Alnwick - 6 Stearman - 6 Kisnorbo - 5 McAuley - 6 Mattock - 5 Hume - 5 Oakley - 6 Clemence - 4 Laczko - 4 Howard - 6 Hayles - 6 Campbell - 5 Chambers - 5 Fans were good today. At the end of the stand I was in the atmosphere was crackin considering the shite on the pitch and the artic conditions.
Guest Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I wouldn't like to drop big Barry or Howard up front and he's not good enough on the right wing unfortunately. I thought Hayles looked shagged towards the end. Someone we went with said that Hayles would have been better off coming on as an impact player. To be honest, I don't think that we're blessed with the option.
Thracian Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Alnwick 6 (Seemed okay. Quite positive and reliable. On rare occasions when he mishandled he was under enormous pressure which he dealt with bravely). Stearman 6 (One of our better players. Looked sharp but never imposed himself on the game) Kisnorbo 4.5 (Woeful. Blackpool were never marauding attackers but they had some speed and skill and City's defence was exposed too easily. As for his passing I just despair. On one particular occasion he could have pushed a simple five yard ball to Mattock but elected instead to pick out Hayles. It was a simple pass but he topped it and gave possession straight to Blackpool) McAuley 5 (Not much better than Kisnorbo. Any team who has speed and movement will cause us trouble and that was clearly demonstrated on several occasions today) Mattock 3.5 (Only played the one half. He'd disappeared for the goal and, while he did make one or tackles as the team collectively improved slightly after the disastrous first five minutes I cannot remember a single telling contribution. Some will claim I'd mark him low anyway but I was actually determined to make sure he got the benefit of any doubts. There were none. If only he'd play like with the belief he showed in the Youth Cup). Hume 6.25 (Almost saved the game with his assist and tried so hard to make something of a difficult situation. Why he was subbed only Holloway can explain but, unless he was injured, I really saw no point in it. Substitutions can easily disrupt a side if only temporarily and to my mind should have a purpose). Oakley 5.5 (Had his moments but never wrested control of midfield for any time. Offered very little threat to goal) Clemence 5.5 (Similar to Oakley really. Had the odd chance but never looked like scoring and didn't create much either. I really expect far more from both our senior central midfielders) Laczko 4 (Looked as if he wanted to do well but in fact seems to have stopped being a winger altogether now. When he's out wide he's often standing defending throw-ins with the full-back. But he also has this habit of drifting into midfield and contracting all the space which means the midfielders couldn't play defence splitting balls if they saw em. Moving infield is fine is someone else moves wide but this didn't happen. Even when an occasional cross came in Laczko was in the middle and there was no-one at the far post where the ball landed. He never ran at his full-back or seriously tried to get behind the defence all game. I've seen yet to suggest he's in Gradel's class. His best asset seems to be in winning a few headers but never in places where they're likely to hurt anyone). Howard 6.75 (One real chance, one goal. Otherwise was largely starved of opportunity and support. Needs much better service all round). Hayles 6 (Looked quite lively and positive at times but was mostly kept too far from goal and faded fast second half). Campbell 6 (I like the guy in many ways. He's elusive and persistent. Asks questions and wormed his way into one particularly good position but failed to deliver the angled shot he needed. I'll be glad when he's back to his best if we somehow uncover midfielders to supply him. J. Chambers 5.5 (Was too far away to know he he might have closed the cross down leading to the winning goal but otherwise tried to be positive down the left and had a couple of dangerous runs right up to the box but, as ever, looked awkward and uncertain with his final pass. Not a left-back. Bori 4 Nominal mark cos I honestly didn't notice anything of note one way or the other in the short time he was on the field. Moment of the match: Their mascot when he chucked his drumsticks on the pitch after beating his drum and trying in vain to get some life out of Blackpool's main stand fans.
C-man Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 Alnwick - 5 Stearman - 4 Kisnorbo - 4 McAuley - 6 Mattock - 4 Hume - 4 Oakley - 6 Clemence - 5 Laczko - 4 Howard - 6 Baz - 9 Campbell - 7 J. Chambers - 5 Bori - 4
Legend_in_blue Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 I'm now sitting in my hotel bedroom opposite the windy beach in Blackpool thinking to myself, just what did I witness this afternoon and why am I still here? I reckon it would have been more entertaining watching that ship wreck off the beach promenade for 3 hours straight. I'm sitting here and can't be bothered to give individual player performances because, quite frankly, we were an absolute joke. So I will give an overall team perfomance rating instead. On a scale of 0 to 10, 2. That was awful. We want a refund! Never, ever before have I felt so cold at a game. Absolutely freezin'. Their ground is a joke, and the tannoy system was like listening to 'the wireless' from 50 years back. And the clock? Where was that? It was so cold I could barely turn round to check to see how much time was left. It was only after we'd got back to the hotel, that we'd realised Dickov had scored the winner. How anyone could tell who, what, when on that tannoy, I'll never know. As for moment of the match - the linesman could only hack it for about 5 minutes on that touchline and he went off with a bad leg. He wasn't fit to run the line! Pure comedy. And the steward lady getting bopped on the back of the head by the football. Poor woman! I ain't comin' back here again...
lildave3 Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 From what I saw (I was in the main stand) half the fans were standing or dancing. The away end was an absolute dump, like most of Blackpool town centre. What did the bouncing look like?
C-man Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 What did the bouncing look like? The bouncing was quality, we should do that more often
Ultra Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 The bouncing was quality, we should do that more often Too right! The Kop should put on a show next week for the cameras..
syston_fox Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 The bouncing was quality, we should do that more often I was knackered at the end.... its never good when the fans are in more of a sweat than the players at the final whistle!!!
C-man Posted 2 February 2008 Posted 2 February 2008 My calves are hurting too. Doesn't help having to drive 300 miles aswell.
